LilJonB's Hopscotch Grow

I got tired of dumping out nutrient solution. I always add back the same ratio just less of it, so I can hit the right conductivity again. I did nutrient solution change out the last grow with big bud like 30 days ago, I don’t really notice a difference. Oh forgot I use math to calculate how much the EC will rise based on the nutrients I’m adding back.

I will next time start off with mild veg nutes and top off with aggressive veg. growth nute ratio when I feel its ready. Then I will do a change out for the transition to flower. Then top off with full bloom nutes and let those NPK numbers rise. Meanwhile keeping the EC at the right level.

What do you do come flower time to drop your N levels? If you had separate bottles of NPK I get it you would leave out the N. But in the pre mix its allway in there.

I didn’t do a big change out. I started bring the veg nutes down and working in the bloom for a couple weeks. So by week 3 I was full on bloom nutes

That actually makes allot of sense. My veg time is really short. That’s probably why it never dawned on me.

ahh for sure I let the nutrient levels drop from the veg, before I put the bloom in there. One time I mixed veg and bloom when there was too much veg left and it gave me nitrogen overdose. So I make sure the conductivity is down near 1 before I put the bloom in there. I don’t add any nutrients in the lead up to bloom phase.

Thank you guys so much. That makes perfect sense now! Ha!

The more I read your thread the easier dwc sounds and the more I want to do it.

I feel like I will be eating those words soon haha

Edit.
Seems like the biggest issue is keeping water Temps low. In my hempies the water on the bottom was always around 19 but I’m not sure if it will be different with no medium.

Im sure you have more grows under your belt then me. Its not hard. Just check your ph and ec. And there are tips on how to keep your reservoir temps down a few posts up.
Just try one bucket and build from there if you like it. :+1:

I will surely be trying soon. Gotta try all my knowledge I’ve learned hanging around here. Curious to see how different it is than my hempeys. Seems like you can push the nutes a lot higher in dwc. I barely passed 1.5 ec and had to start backing off

Theoretically your temps should get lower the more water you have in there. Keep your air pump outside your tent so you dont pump hot air in your bucket. Raise your buckets off the floor unless your in the basement. It will allow air flow underneath to cool it more. Insulate your buckets. Those are some super tips to keep the res cool in the summer.
I don’t know much about hempy. I learned the most from you, @nefrella and @dequilo . It dose seem you can push nutes a little harder. Growth is crazy fast. I don’t think I will ever go back to soil unless I had too.

I have some stuff in soil at the moment on bottle nutes and wow am I missing my increased growth rate. Forgot it was this slow lol

Take the drive bro. I did because of ogs encouraging me to do it. I love it. I try to keep things simple. Not over think it all. I have to watch temps as I’m growing in a unfinished garage with extreme temps both ways. This summer will be the first run with dwc in the major heat so just trying to prepare

I still run soil also.

I’m worried about the one on the right bro. I’m crossing my fingers they’re both girls. If you can a pic close up of the nodes, see if those two hairs are straight or crossed.

Oh yeah I have to run soil outside in buckets. Don’t think I will ever stop playing in the dirt outside. I’ve seen NFT ran outside. The precautions are probably the same. Dealing with the heat. I wonder if people bury there reservoir in the ground to keep them cool? The thing with soil inside and outside is the sun makes up for the slow soil growth. I abandoned my first outdoor grow because it was ravaged by insects. I decided to just go have a look see just incase a couple months later and they were huge. Well huge to me at the time lol. From that point on I was hooked. I would grow whenever I saw the opportunity. I made a the worst rookie mistake. I told some friends about my grow. I went out a few days later and the middle plant of the 3 was gone. I found out later who took the plant. The sad thing is that the plants were not done yet. I still chopped em down because friend or not they would have been back for more… There was sugar leaves. We would all sit at my place smoking big fat joints of sugar leaves. Lemme tell you how it was a ghost town when the the smoke ran out.
Sorry about early morning rant. The coffee is def. working. That was around 2003.

I don’t see hairs as of yet. Not on the Hopscotch anyway. I have these popping up on the left plant.

It looks like that where the hairs will come from. Those things there that are shaped like apostrophes. I’m not experienced that well at spotting males till later. So untill I see or don’t see hairs I don’t know. Dose this look like a male? To me it looks like it could go either way at this point.

This is a structure pic of the one on the right.

Nothing to see here folks.
Which I guess is a good thing.

The Gelato Auto is throwing hairs but that’s not surprising.

I do have to say that it is always exciting wondering what your going to get.

Looking pretty male to me but I have a helluva time deciding.

I’m on the fence as well. I will have a clearer idea tomorrow I’m sure. Both plants are structurally different so I dont want to say that since this one flowering faster means its a male. We shale see. I’m sure @Hoppy would know.
