LilJonB's Hopscotch Grow

Yep, you definitely could have some difference when they show. Some guys can sex them early but I’ve looked at lots of plants over the years and still get one wrong quite often

I wait untill I see hairs. But males don’t know. It looks like I’m about to learn.

Sorry to say but I’m guessing male, but I hope I’m wrong. :grinning:

I’m thinking if there were going to be hairs they would be there with that much going on. Males dont have ANY pistols correct? I have the yellow Blueberry that could take its place. I think I’m going to get another Gelato going. There the only fem seeds that I got.

The structure is looking good but the color not so much. I wondering if its the Rapid Rooter. Its allot dryer then it was.

look at the bottom pic of the girl and look carefully at what the hairs are coming out of, then look at the other pics. Can you see the difference. Would be easier if I could enlarge the first pics but I believe I see a difference.

I think it may be a bit early, the top pic kinda looked like it could be male.

What I look for is those “hairs” that come out. You may see one on a male but they get longer on the female. When I see 2 I am absolutely sure. Usually the males will show first. That plant is a little light. I have always been a dirt farmer and don’t know much about hydro but it just looks like it could use some nitrogen.

I just wait til they actually show just look everyday til they do. They arent going to bust on first sight. I been following along here but honestly know nothing about running in water. Thought of it cause the soil coco is piling up in the city yard looking lil off. I just put sunflowers n watermelons in it in summer. But an all out home depot linked totes system has crossed my mind

Thats the thing. They look alike. They dont necessarily look like pods on the first plant (Hopscotch) they look similar to the Gelato flowers except they don’t have hairs yet. But if I don’t see hairs by tomorrow I will most definitely call it.
So 3 days since the 30 hrs of dark. To be fair I did give them 10 hours the day before that. Why 10? It just that I thought it was time and I wanted my time to be from 3am to 3pm Light on.

I look for the female bracts that the hairs come out of. If you use magnification you can see a difference in what will sprout hairs and what will end up being male.

I will do a change out of the nutes. See if that helps. I didn’t give it full strength cal-mag. I will this time. I was scared because it was so small. It should be ok now.

I will use a jewlers loop @Floyd to see if I can get a better idea. Right about now I wish I had my Note. I would be able to hook my micro scope up to it. I can only take 3 pics at a time on this phone. Not enough space to download anything on here.

Wish I had pics to show what I mean, I always wait a bit just in case but I’m usually right.

It’s all in fun man. Nothing serious.

Personally I couldn’t tell a damn bit of difference in preflowers on my first grow, but I could always tell one plant was really growing faster. Turns out it was a male! Didn’t know until a few days into flower. But like you say- all in fun. You’ll probably catch it before you seed anything.

Those two things sticking out are what I was referring to. If they cross its generally a male. Looks good so far, when the stick out pointing up is generally a female.

I’m worried about the one on the right, males are usually squat and bushy. Those two hair things are laying against the stalk, the other they’re standing away pointing straight up that’s a good sign. Females of the Hopscotch strain have stretched more that the boys (in my grows). I think it’s the Diesel in them. They didn’t do it till that cross.

Cool cool. It’s really not that serious. I’ve got some autos I could throw in there if there are any males to take its place. I Will do my breeding projects in the summer. No to the seed this grow. Thanks @Bullskinner @Floyd @Shaggy450r @rooted @ChemicalDependant and @Hoppy for chiming in.
Like I said its not that serious either way. I just wanted to post that signs of sex are happening 4 days after flipping 3 days since the 30 hr. dark experiment. I think it did show a little earlier the usual. How long dose it take for you @Hoppy ? Do you start with 12/12? Or do you do something similar 24 to 30 hours of dark?

First one is female, second one still unknown. The female grows a triangle at the intersection of the spiky thing, the leaf, the side shoot and the stalk.
cir
If that thing looks like a clenched fist or hand, then it’s male. It starts out as a small bump then grows little side fingers with no sessile trichomes.
The female on the other hand, grows a triangle shaped part that is covered in sessiles with hardly any unicells.

Ha! Thank you kind sir. Your always a wealth of information. Since they were not round and looking like an apostrophe made me believe that it was female. Not seeing the pistols yet was throwing me off. I will remember that information for the future. :+1:
