LilJonB's Hopscotch Grow

If your going to get serious your going to need a meter. If you already have something for your PPM I recommend the bluelab ph pen. You can get something cheaper but it’s going to give you a headache your probably going to want to get a better one anyway. My old pen was a whole 1.5 higher then it was supposed to be. The PH probe has a life of a year on average but if you take care of it and keep it saturated in ph probe solution and clean it when your done it will last longer.
Your going to want to mix your Cal-Mag first then your GH Maxi mix last.

100% what LilJonB said!

The HM EC/TDS pens have been pretty decent for me, and you can swap the probe on it and they’re not crazy expensive like bluelab…

I like Apera’s PH pens for the same reason. Reasonable price and they tend to come in a nice kit with the storage and calibrating solutions.

Both EC/TDS and PH NEED calibration solution and i’d recommend at least checking the calibration once every week. And yeah, DWC especially NEEDS the ec/tds pen so you can see what the plant is doing. If it’s eating and drinking or only drinking or what. You can get buy without but you’re guessing. With both and monitoring the water level, you can see exactly what’s going on.

I learned from the best. Thanks Overgrow!

@Hoppy what are you using to get your PPM readings? I trust @HolyAngel would not steer you wrong on a meter. Every thing dose need calibration. Some are easy to calibrate some you just want to stomp the Fnck out of.

When you coming back to Hydroponics @HolyAngel. I miss your work.

Not sure i’ll get back into DWC anytime soon, need RO water for that as something in my pipes or something is causing rot overnight. I’m having fun in this flood table though! Makes doing DWC look like work

And also experimenting with coco on the side too, that’s still kinda hydro, right? :yum:

I mean, if you got the money for bluelab, have at it. Not getting any better than those… but if money is tight, that HM Digital (COM-100) for ec/tds with the replaceable probe has been totally solid for me and easy to calibrate with 1000ppm/2ec solution. And then the Apera Instruments AI311 PH60 has been fantastic for PH for me and calibrates with standard solution you can buy, not powder shit you have to mix yourself.

Both tend to go about a month before needing any type of calibrating at all, and even then could probably stand to wait awhile. I still check it weekly and calibrate as needed but both 100% solid for the money. Still tho… can’t go wrong at all with bluelab and their’s is like… ~$250 for the meter that does all 3 at the same time constantly plus others, its worth it, I just couldn’t afford it.

I have those sticks ya dip in the water and compare the colors. I added Calmag and ph is up to 7.0. Gonna check again un the morning. I have a Blue Lab meter for ppm

I know the Maxi will make it drift down. It might be where you want it in the morning. If your happy with the strips cool. I’m to much of a control freak to use them myself. Lol.

And I just kicked myself in the ass. I couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t seeing pistols yet. It’s been a week, well of all things I forgot to change my timer at that location.

I thought you said you intended to flip a week ago. That sucks man. You switched to the flower nutes right?

Ya I forgot to flip that tent, the one at my house are a week in now. I went half and half on the nutes. Green and red. Was gonna wait another week to go all red

Cool cool. Hopefully we get through this little bump in the road with your Water Culture. Keep me posted. :+1:

I’m gonna do another water change with spring water. PPM is still 740 temp 64 and ph 700. The big leaves are getting yellowed. Leaf tips are weird and she stopped growing. I’m thinking I should have left her in the shed.

DAY 85!

I wish she would stop growing.

I’m going to take a nug a little later to see what the trichomes are doing.

I’ve never used spring water. Keep doing weekly change outs. You should get new white roots to grow. I really think that color on your root was from the root stuff you were using before. At least I really hope so. If your PPMs keep dropping up them a little at a time until it pretty much stays the same. I noticed with the Maxi you not want to over feed. It will give you PH trouble. So far so good :+1:

Thanks @Grizz718. But I really want her to stop growing. Lol. I want to grow something new. This is around the time my trimming hand gets a little twitchy. I should have knocked her light back to 11/13 sooner. I hope she takes the hint. I’m about to start dropping Ice in her bucket. I have never done it but I might try it. Anyone object?

I’ve never heard of that but it might make her think winter is coming and maybe she’ll hurry to finish

That’d the Idea. She’s far enough along to where I’m not worried about shocking her.

Ive had plants that just kept throwing new pistils but the trichomes told a different story.

Hey bud, what light are you using? I have seen this before from light stress.

The Foxtails are the only parts of the plant that are throwing brand new pistols. You are absolutely right about the trichomes. Trichomes don’t lie. I’m going to sample a older small bud from the bottom in a little bit.
