Limiting access to seed-runs, auctions & fundraisers

To me, Overgrow has always been about one thing and only one thing. Ending prohibition. Hence the name and old mission statement of overgrowing the planet by getting seeds around the globe to the people that wanted to be a part of it. Regardless of who they were, where they were from or how long they were here.

I think the way things are done are just fine.

Seed Runs are first come first serve and based on user trust level. The first people to lose in that system are newbs.

Auctions and Giveaways already seem to be coordinated with the member and admin, as it should be. If a member doesn’t like the terms they are not obligated to participate.

Sorry if I’m missing something here, but I can’t see where there are problems in regards to this subject.

As to some of the other subject matter that popped up. Short and sweet and pretty much covers everything that needs to be addressed.

https://overgrow.com/tos

We need to stay united to complete the mission. It is finally legal here. 13 miles from my home possession of more than an ounce is a felony. For those still in prohibition lands, I feel for you. I didn’t think I would ever see it in my lifetime until it happened.

Thanks, lucky you beer3|nullxnull . I’ve been kicking a dead horse, I don’t know why this matter is brought to discussion as everything has been already decided (still missing the link to the thread were adds were discussed) and if someone says something he is part of a few elitist group going against the will of the silenced majority and being asked to create a new forum. Free seeds for everyone! “Panem et circenses” … :sunglasses:

Dude what you’re feeling is completely normal. You’ve Found a little oasis and you’re justifiably worried that one day it won’t be there anymore.

If every single one of us left the site forever tho, it would revive again with an entirely new set of people. Rest easy brother, stress will kill ya.

@brampie I know it’s hard to not take this personal but it’s not please know this . These debates are a normal part of OG they were happening well before you came. So please don’t take it personal happy to have you here :sunglasses: … Please check out the rest of the site it’s awesome

Thanks, you’re right on what you say, but the site wouldn’t be the same as these new people would abide with the reasons that made the other people leave it … :sunglasses:

You’ve brought the concern, have asked, it has been explained the best we can.

Your major complaint has been “new” users participating in areas you don’t think they should be allowed participate in. You’d like them restricted from auctions, give-aways, and seed-runs such that a limited group would benefit. Onto this, you’d like to see wholesale private and hidden areas in each of the categories such that newer users can’t see nor participate in them. This sounds just like I’ve described.

The rationalization started with “new” users bad to the more recent “security” concern in an attempt to find a solid platform to argue from. Elsewhere, in another thread, you were arguing about copyrights. The latest seems to be feelings hurt and bread and circuses?

OG is a community based site catering to the whole, always has been. The goals and underlying framework haven’t appreciably changed since you or I have joined. OG reflects an inclusive and caring nature built by a great bunch of folk, both new and old, that have come together to share in common interests.

I don’t really feel there is much new to add and we’re starting to move beyond some of the explanations from my perspective. But before dipping your toes into darker waters, re-read the explanation provided in this topic and the points being made. Try to understand the reasons why they are important. Accommodations have already been made to allow for some flexibility without overtly interfering with the OG charter. If such concerns remain overriding in your mind, yes, set-up your own solution. Go do it better, get preciously what will suit your needs, overgrow the world*. I feel no guilt in saying that.

*world limits apply.

Yea dude I was, several times. I’ve been doing this awhile. 1999 the first time, my first successful grow btw. My grow closet was in my reptile room. When the cops went in they didn’t like the reptiles and didn’t look in the closet. I was living in the state 13 miles south of me then though a bit farther south.
The 2nd time I had several grows under my belt and was really bad timing as it wasn’t long after overgrow shut down. I had moved to MI by then and they came and put a special power meter on my house. Nothing else out of the ordinary, but I shut down my grow until they changed all the meters in the neighborhood about a year later.
The last time was May 2010. They put the special meter on again and also had 24/7 on my location. Got rid of everything as fast as I could and was done until Michigan went legal.

It’s hard to be active, and downright risky to be active as a grower. When I got shut down the last time I had that opportunity because it wasn’t worth the risk anymore. I got active until the goal was accomplished, locally. Still in pursuit for the rest of you, in my own way. Still get paranoid about it though and still have the habit of deleting my pics as soon as I upload for some reason.

I’m not sure what you were meaning by the rest of what you said. The only thing keeping me from doing a seed run is my plant count. When I could grow during prohibition it didn’t matter. Manufacturing is manufacturing, 1 plant or 99, over that then you may have bigger trouble. Now even though I can grow I can’t take a risk of being outside the law even though there is little risk.

Who are these silenced masses you speak of? I must have missed something, I generally stay the weed related topics.

“Free the Weed” Giddy up, and…PEACE

This. So much this right here, I cannot like this comment enough. If this were reddit I would give you gold

This is exactly how I feel about all this, both now and with the original OG. I would think most that have been here for a long time and/or were original OG members would agree with that as well.

@Northern_Loki, You’ve done a phenomenal job answering all the concerns listed

Anonymous site, really anyone can do and say whatever they want. If a ppl_police|nullxnull wanted to join a seed co-op and find out where seeds are being sent from and where they are going, it’s really not that hard. Much easier to track post than them damn internetz. They could have their own journals and even run their own seed co-ops, who knows.

Someone could do a seed run and send out $0.25 Chinese hemp seeds and see if people breed them into their lines. Same token so could a seed company, lot’s of bad actors out there.

I think there’s lots of posts on here about security and keeping yourself safe.

Personally I have lots of reasons I don’t participate in seed co-ops to get free seeds. To me they’re not worth the risk and I have testing kits if I order seeds from a new bank. I do like that people give out free seeds and help the community but I believe everything is at your own risk. That being said I’m not against giving out free seeds if I make some and have them sitting around, but if you trust me or not that’s up to you

That’s why I never have anything grow related sent to my home or grow location.

Thanks, it’s like howling to the moon, it has been already decided somewhere and now John Doe living in Wonderland has to fill something to be able to bid … frech|nullxnull

In reality the person receiving the seeds has more risk in terms of exposure then the person sending, and that’s only if they use there actual address or one linked to them. I would assume that most people sending or receiving seeds don’t use there actual name or address in the return section.

So now we have a basic user making bids (Tejas), just 6 posts, looks like a specialist:

Is this the kind of members we want in our community or as long as he pays everything’s OK? ejem|nullxnull

To be fair, the very first auction on OG was won by a member who has almost never posted, before, or since. Still logs in now and then tho.

And there’s even no “basic profile info” as requested, we don’t respect our own rules … :disappointed:

This member won one lot in the Heritage Farms auction (out of 14 slots)
and is currently bidding on one lot in Zephr’s Fundraiser.

And this member is also polite, “… Anyway I look forward getting these going, thanks Heritage Farms! …”

I don’t see this as a problem.

That has been discussed before, here and here.
And, the rules as posted and administered by HeritageFarms for his auction, here.

The problem is basically he is NOT a member as you say, just a basic user, rules I mentioned were inserted in an add I posted before, so OG rules …

just comes to the auctions and politely outbids OG members, if you don’t see any problem with that, cool, no use speaking about it … :sunglasses:
