Malagasy Cannabis

Very interesting,

Okay that make sense with the endless flowering I had with the repros…

Here is some zamal coming from Toliara :

I agree with you, I found that the seeds from the Toliara region were very small as well !

Comparing to the eastern zamal:

It’s amazing you’ve done some research here, I am glad we can share our findings !

Also, what difference does it make to the weed at the end ? Is it a way to see it’s landraces ?

Cheers

Black and Red kind with early flowering are more killer and trippy lsd like, tired and stony end of high too. I found some in Swazi particularly heart-beaty dangerous if you do not move, it needs physical action to avoid psy too much bad effects. Really hallucinogenic c.

Gold and Green over 16 weeks are more cool without ceiling, energetic and trippy too but it’s less hard and without understone, spiritual magic cleanser i would say.

Then as Paracelse said “all is a question of dose” lol even with Green you shoudn’t overdose it ^^

:astonished: I’ll take note of this one.

Khat sounds similar to Betel nut that is chewed on Guam by the Chamorro’s as a stimulant. It leaves a red color on the persons tongue and gums. Both the leaves and the nut itself are chewed.

I don’t think so, I’ve had both, betel nut long time ago though, the effect and taste is different for me.

The Khat, katy affect the cheeks because people keep a lot of it for days in the cheeks… as for the mouth days of chewing will wound a little bit too. It needs to be fresh and used fresh for a maximal effect.
But you can use as it in a tea or smoothie, effects might be different than raw chewing but more interesting than coffee for example, in my experience. It’s nice into Rhum, mixed with cola and ginger it’s very interesting

As for the effects, Khat is euphoric, social, mildy stimulant. Very popular in the north of the big island and the east coast. There is a big Khat production in those places, it’s trees that all very old, as Khat trees needs to be at least 5 years old to produce good Khat. It’s the Cathinone found it the leaves and stalks that produce this warm mild stimulation talkative effect.
It is widely used in East Africa and middle east.
Chewing leaves is okay compare to have to chew on a nut. The taste is a lot more accessible to me.

Khat

Betel nut made me sick, got me sweating the locals gave me lemon juice as an antidote even then I was wired for a while and the guys on it there were quite stoned and sweating buckets. A bit like really strong tobacco… My friend chewed the whole thing it was mixed with some cream and a leaf (might have changed the effect). The effects were trippy. It felt very heavy and poisonous compare to the Khat leaves that felt cleaner.

It was in Sri Lanka. We were there to score some herb or something and the guy was getting hits on this home made ghetto bong made with a piece of antenna and a plastic bottle, that he ended up giving us, they was no rolling papers we were smoking in journals for weeks … suddenly it was betel nut time. Our host invited us to chew those betel nut with them, we were intrigued so we stayed. It was strange ! I might not react well to it but my friend was feeling kind of the same even more pronounced, maybe not used to it yet…

Some katy, some zam, some rhum :sunglasses:

Wow mate, thanks again for taking us along into your world!
Really appreciate it.

This I’m definitely looking forward to trying some day.
Betel, especially after your report, not so much.

Wishing you many more sessions with the Zam, Khat + Rhum :+1:t3:

Am already thinking about growing some Khat. But 5 years

Do you soak the ginger in Rhum for a while? How long and how’s the ginger prepared beforehand?

Thanks brother. I’ve always been intrigued by Malagasy cannabis.

Interesting,

I am sorry but I assumed that “Managua” sounded latino ? In what part of the world this term is used ?

It might feel like you reducing the potency by draining the water, but in my experience, it is actually the opposite. THC is not soluble in hot water I think… You got to do decarboxylation of your material so THC is converted to THCA ready for oral absorption…
Here is a recipe for example : How To Make Cannabis Infused Milk At Home (Potent & Easy Weed Milk)
I used to cook it straight in the whole milk but this way gives a more potent result !

I use pepper, cardamon, cinnamon… Matter of taste, I do think that the zamal taste is sometimes spicy enough.

Zamal milk with some vanilla, sugar and honey:

Yes I think edibles made of pure sativa are interesting and uplifting. Trippier in higher dosages !

I am curious to see how the ZamalxGolden Tiger looks like!

Cheers

Hey @Roms

Thank you for your answer,

It’s funny, I fully understand the Swazi effect you describing with some effect of some Zamal here… It gets you going !

I understand as well the Gold and Green effects that you are describing, I got that but with the repros I’ve done.
Makes sense to me the plant and its flowers got more time to build themselves, to develop their cannabinoids to the max… But I guess it’s not always like that

I found decent flowers coming from center south, thought I might share,
Here is some “Hybrid”:

And some “Kush”:

Taste and effects are quite good and strong, still good old school weed for me, outdoor groundy stuff… The first one is close to the repro of zamal I have done, I think very close to the landrace with almost no seeds . The second is definitely indica kind, deeper taste, resin… need to dose the thing right

Thanks man

Pleasure shared my friend, indeed i think Mada rongony is mostly Gold/Green like all pure sat below 1000m altitude but many areas are upper high elevation. Around and between Antsirabe and Tananarivo there are good places to devellop the Red early flowering but i think that the hard repression of the past 50 years must have made the thing almost disappeared. So only down South to Betroka i think the Red is still alive and even Black is possible i would say, all depends of altitude crop fields.Like the Mauve Poivrée Zamal in La Réunion  Maybe what you thought as hybrids aren’t maybe? Both pics looks sativa to me even the “kush” you name can be not really indica hybrid?

In Eswatini or Malawi you can find this type more resinous harsh to smoke with more killer effects and heart beating hard with smaller and more compact flowers.

Plus hybridization from South poor people is quite implausible but far North more westerners touristic for sure yes “the pollution” is clearly down right!

Anyway i think.the differentiation is still possible according the flowering times, if it’s less than 12 weekers it’s definitely not pure i would say. Also terps are revealing if there’s skunky and petrol aroma which doesn’t exist in pure sativa. Black type pure sat is differently dark spicy and metallic, gunpowder, cigar, black/grey peppers softly mixed with honey and flowers. :boom: :black_heart:

Hey man,

As I mentioned earlier, the names “hybrid” and “kush” are the names used by locals, I don’t say it is actually those genetics ! I got to give them a name other than expensive modern weed .
I said that the “kush” got more of physical effects and stoning effect than the “hybrid” that gives a strong mental high, good for mornings. I got no way of actually know for sure whats full sativa, hybrid etc. I’d be very curious to know for sure. I am not good as you to describe the aromas and tastes! Those new flowers come from south not far south but southern highlands.

As for Eswatini and Malawi, I don’t know as I never been there so I never tried. But still interesting !

Even if the south might be “poorer” than the rest of the Island, it’s largely less controlled by the state and the army, so more fields and militias. Maybe there is more westerners in the north but I don’t know about that, maybe I guess, in the Islands of north west as Nosy Be (Big Island in Malagasy) or in the mainland, Mahajanga . There is more trafficking in those areas, huge Khat production (bigger than weed) that is not destined for westerners. With the proximity of Mayote, Comorres, etc. a lot of cannabis products and others gets exported to those places. Though I never been to far north, to Diego-Suarez but I have been to Mahajanga, Ambanja, Nosy Be, Nosy Boraha.

Ambanja:

Mahajanga :

Nosy Be :

That’s some rongony scored in Mahajanga (in the papers). Different in a better way, less seeds and sticks more resinous than the one you get in the highlands. Quite cheap.

I mentioned as well that, lastly, less is coming from north due to repression and the road. Also what is produced in the north often go for exportation with great access to the Islands of Indian Ocean, East Africa. Even if there is a big local use, the exportation is far more profitable. I am sure there is nice flowers and nice hash there but basically not for locals.

Recently (July this year) they cut down 10 acres and “burned” a ton of weed in the Ambanja district, so in the north :

Another pic of the non identified recent potent tasty expensive modern weed  :

My girl and I visited the beautifull island a few years ago.

First we went to the North East region of Maroantsetra.
Some villages looked richer because of the vanilla production. The trip we did was through an area that was only accessible by feet during some of the year and during the other a motorcycle could also get by, but no cars.

We later went to more central area’s of the island but the North East was the only place that I could score some weed as a foreigner.

A friend with special sativa skills grew them out. Seeds out of weed scored in the village ‘Ampokafo’.

That’s amazing man, I never been to this area yet !!
Beautiful photos and it’s very interesting, the weed your friend grew is beautiful ! Looks very unique … incredible, another new strain ? I’ve done some that looked a bit like but this is skills.

Yes I know that there is a lot of vanilla production in this part of the island that generate some money, did you see a lot of other foreigners in those places ? It looks amazing. So cool. With the coming raining season those parts are going to be even harder to get to.

It makes sense you couldn’t score easily in the central area as people there tend to be a lot more suspicious and paranoid about that, as well as a different culture.
In the coastal and remote areas, people seem more relax about weed and use it more.

Thank you so much for sharing man I am glad it looks like you enjoyed your trip ! :grinning:

Which method of quick transportation do you find is most common? Do you see ATV four wheeler type or more horses/donkeys? Dirt bikes?

Great thread and read. It covers everything to love about living. The people, culture, nature, weed, and the music! Oh man the music was groovy…that’s one language everyone on the planet can speak. Simply awesome @CrazyLemur!
What really grabbed my interest was the mention of the moss that is substituted for weed. Can you explain how that process works?
Thanks @CrazyLemur & @Roms for the share.
