Micro Octopot Grow

Ha! I thought the same thing when I was looking to buy it! Like, “what if don’t like it? I’m gonna be stuck with a lifetime supply (plus extra, maybe)”
So I found someone on eBay who sells tiny quantities of it it ziplock baggies.

I got 6oz of the part A, 4oz of the part B, and 1oz of the epsom salts as a tester.

Even that tiny amount might last me all year!! :joy:

Greetings Octopoddlers,

Since we’re talkin Jack’s nutes, am I the only one with big blue nuggets of dye in the bag?

They are the size of my pinkie first knuckle, indigo blue. The rest of the nute powder is whiteish with blue dye grains.

Certainly a product dye, but it’s messy to try and crush them back into powder and I’m reluctant to just pluck them for disposal.

Did I just get a couple bags of Bad Jack’s or what??? Can I just trash the blue chunks???

I have not seen that in mine

lol ya kinda made me laugh but at same time im poor so i coulda saved money. least it was free shipping! and i just use dollar store epsoms 1.25 for a bag !

and i will say jacks has been great for me so easy and good results. and so many ways to tweek it for more or less of what u want.

hmm i never seen that in mine but im pretty sure there are timy blue specs in the mix maybe yours was a bad bag and they dropped chunks into it. i would contact them and see if they would replace the bag, who knows if that might throw off your numbers even when plucking it out… i would guess if you got alot of lock out or signs of deficiency i would blame the bag

I found that guy too! Same reasoning where I wanted to try it before committing to buying bulk.

Exactly what I was thinking! I had good results, but I just sieved out the chunks.

If it is uncommon I think I will contact them, send a pic and see what they say.

So far, the plants with the Jacks 321 are not happy

The pH in the res is 5.9, and 1080ppm.

The ppm is a little high for new roots maybe, but not too bad.

But, it’s also winter. The night time temps are 62.0F, and the humidity is real low. I’m struggling to keep it above 40%, which means most of the day my VPD is like 1.6 :grimacing:

So, I’m not blaming this on the Jacks.
The plants have other difficulties right now in my tents. And other soil potted plants seem to be loving the Jacks I feed them every couple weeks.

But the tough conditions are sure making it hard for me to get a good feel for how the Jacks is performing in the octopups.

Rise ph to 6.2
Also did you add calmag? Looks like they can use a it

If it’s the first time using it the ppm may be too high also

They should be getting loads of Mag from the Epsom salts…
But, I think you’re probably right about the Cal.
My Cal/Mag solution is very acidic tho. It drops the pH way down. and I dont want it going lower.

So… I think I need to drive over to the hydro store today and get some ph-UP solution.

I read that the jacks is buffered to ~5.8-5.9, so I was experimenting with just leaving it as is. Jacks straight into the tap water and hope for the best without adjusting pH. But that was maybe wishful thinking.

Bro it’s fun to experiment

I fine the ph makes a big difference

Also the calcium if you have jacks 15.5/0/0 add that

My tap is 190 ppms
I bring it up to 500 to 550 ppms (20/20/20 veg stage )
Then I add 100 ppms of 15/0/0
My ph get shot up to 7 .5

I always need to adjust down

With the Octopots it makes a big difference IMHO

I can attest to following your 6.2 recommendation on my first run and that seemed to be the absolute money spot. Everything looked flawless. (to me)

That’s how I’ve been using mine. I have pretty hard water, so it buffets to abou 6.0-6.1.

Are you using 3.6g/2.4g/1.2g or are you doing 3.0g/2.0g/1.0g

Perhaps instead. Pro-TeKt silicon. It raises PH and you get the benefits of silicon.

I’ve used it for pH up before, but you are supposed to add it first, which makes it more complicated.

Im using it now in my Octos. I mix it in first then ajust my PH. Than I add my Jacks and Epsom salts. Check again and adjust again if necessary.
My tap water PH is around 7.2, but will change sometimes.
I do my mixing in 5 gallon pails.

Best quote I’ve heard in awhile. Thanks! :v:

I’m using 3.0g/2.0g/1.0g ratio so far.
Is the slightly higher values the true recommended mix ratio?
I’m asking only cause my research was a little… less than thorough
