Ha! I thought the same thing when I was looking to buy it! Like, “what if don’t like it? I’m gonna be stuck with a lifetime supply (plus extra, maybe)”
So I found someone on eBay who sells tiny quantities of it it ziplock baggies.
I got 6oz of the part A, 4oz of the part B, and 1oz of the epsom salts as a tester.
lol ya kinda made me laugh but at same time im poor so i coulda saved money. least it was free shipping! and i just use dollar store epsoms 1.25 for a bag !
and i will say jacks has been great for me so easy and good results. and so many ways to tweek it for more or less of what u want.
hmm i never seen that in mine but im pretty sure there are timy blue specs in the mix maybe yours was a bad bag and they dropped chunks into it. i would contact them and see if they would replace the bag, who knows if that might throw off your numbers even when plucking it out… i would guess if you got alot of lock out or signs of deficiency i would blame the bag
The ppm is a little high for new roots maybe, but not too bad.
But, it’s also winter. The night time temps are 62.0F, and the humidity is real low. I’m struggling to keep it above 40%, which means most of the day my VPD is like 1.6
So, I’m not blaming this on the Jacks.
The plants have other difficulties right now in my tents. And other soil potted plants seem to be loving the Jacks I feed them every couple weeks.
But the tough conditions are sure making it hard for me to get a good feel for how the Jacks is performing in the octopups.
They should be getting loads of Mag from the Epsom salts…
But, I think you’re probably right about the Cal.
My Cal/Mag solution is very acidic tho. It drops the pH way down. and I dont want it going lower.
So… I think I need to drive over to the hydro store today and get some ph-UP solution.
I read that the jacks is buffered to ~5.8-5.9, so I was experimenting with just leaving it as is. Jacks straight into the tap water and hope for the best without adjusting pH. But that was maybe wishful thinking.
Im using it now in my Octos. I mix it in first then ajust my PH. Than I add my Jacks and Epsom salts. Check again and adjust again if necessary.
My tap water PH is around 7.2, but will change sometimes.
I do my mixing in 5 gallon pails.
I’m using 3.0g/2.0g/1.0g ratio so far.
Is the slightly higher values the true recommended mix ratio?
I’m asking only cause my research was a little… less than thorough
