I think you mentioned mapito and octopot somewhere on the forum. I don’t know if you tried? And if not, what is the reason?

I’ve not tried it as of yet , I worry about it staying too wet but I will one day give it a go
Any thoughts on oil drain pans for an alternative? Apart from a bit of cutting, the biggest drawback I can see is not having a removable lid. Under bed storage totes could be used as well, though they may be a bit flimsy.
Hi. I’m not sure what the gap/hole is for.
I always cover it over with black electrical tape, to keep light out of the reservoir (prevent algae growth)
So. If you are making your own, you can probably leave it out
the normal octopots have an air gap around the base of the grow bag for air exchange, i think its assumed that hole is for that purpose and im skeptical about covering it even outside where id get bugs climbing into the res on some.
i found the vigoro brand outdoor shade cloth to be amazing at blocking light and heat and allowing air through so if i get algae inside with it open ill string this up under the canopy:

I can see this working out
Just need to drill a 3 inch hole or 7.26 cm to add the net pot
Cleaning it would be the biggest problem imho
I’m thinking of something much simpler.
I got the idea and prototype from reading this thread on the patio. Saw a plastic round basin (for laundry…) and a plate for a pot. They fit perfectly.
I’ll take a square basin and a square pot plate. I found one combination by looking on the Internet, but I have to go to a store on the mainland and combine a bit. Owerall dimensions of the basin is 36cm x 36cm x 15cm. I think in inches it’s 14 x 14 x 6, and 2/3 of the full capacity is just over 2 gallons.
9 such pieces can fit in a 4 x 4 space
That a great size plus with a 2 gallon reservoir awesome.
Less refilling
Greetings @Pannonian, be 100% that the plastic is light proof, impermeable. Otherwise you are asking for trouble. Algae == Bad.
But you prolly know that.

Whew. Humidity in the northeast seems like it’s finally calming down, so my Point Break x Lebanese Black babies went into their octopup homes yesterday, getting ready for the first seed run after the summer
Humidity + Spores == Bud Rot!!!
It has been miserable to watch my two large, healthy, flowering Frankie’s be slowly tortured to death by Botrytis. I used it as a learning opp and tried every suggested bud rot remedy but that shite just keeps on coming. I’m putting the final remains into the compost pile today.
On a happier note, my Frankie backcross seedling hit the Octo reservoir in a record six days after transplant.
Have you tried hypochlorous acid?
difference in octopup and octopot ???
These are just the small DIY versions, someone along the way nicknamed them “octopups”. It was cute so I stuck with it
Tried it at several concentrations, found it could kill a visible infection, but couldn’t stop the next ones. I even resorted to using an electrical fogger and misting them every morning with Hypochlorous.
No joy.
Damn!
Curse of the successful grower
I think that might have been me Jet. The idea was to avoid confusing these one gallon octos with the trademarked version.
smaller than the 3 gal octos?
Small 1.2 gallon reservoir. Same principle
8 in x 8 in in size
wow , cool
