My Bubble hash making tech

ok I have finally settled on some imaging that really works. To select the sample, I cut a single bud out of the cluster and cut that in half. Then I take both halves and put them face down so the outside is facing up. After that, I create an EDF image then literally put them on the screen and compare it. I don’t even really need to count them, but I can. Using the microscope counting I can put a red dot on each trichome stalk then have a total in the end. I will do that eventually. lol I’m not sure I’m looking forward to it, though. The images themselves can be recalled into the software and counted later, or recounted or whatever you want to do.

I counted 63 of the little buggers. I probably missed a few lol!

I got 24 here. I should concentrate more on getting the sample in the center of the image, eh?

I do maybe full speed but also in bursts to facilitate even mixing.

My mixer is atypical:

It’s more of a paddle.

wow umm your tool is so large!!
You can see my new tool, it’s shiny!!!

I used a metal file to grind one of the tabs off the cake mixer component, so it would fit perfectly in the chuck. I knew this guy he was convinced the cake mixer didn’t do the job so he would stir with a spoon at the same time to try and mix it all up. He probably still does that. Just the mixer works.

That’s good for Halloween it’s like a witches brew haha. I use a paint stirring bit on a corded drill.

If you guys want a good mixer, you might want to look into one like this altho I haven’t personally done a run with it as I got a washing machine, but I did mix liquid with this in a five gallon, and yeah, it mixes pretty well.

I’m starting to wonder if I could image a pre-bloom flower to see if it was a good producer.

I have a lil update for you, I ran my first wash!

Well, it was sort of a test wash, not a tremendous amount of material, in fact here is the left over drying out in the oven:

Here were the tiny results (I only had enough ice for basically two washes and barely that:

And a couple things of interest possibly for you… as I keep going back and forth to the oven checking on the dryness, the buds are still sticky (prob cause I didn’t wash enough), so I’m hoping I can get some decent qwiso…

Also, I decided to experiment for my first time as well (because who needs a reference )…

This sort of came from my first post on another thread, which I started) where I was wondering if/how I could do a bud washing (not ice water hash) and then do a dry ice hash…

Well, long story short, I just ended up doing the ice water hash cause it washes it anyway and both ways were going to get it wet…

However, this is where the experiment took place. Basically, I implemented some of the practices used for general bud washing…

My first tank fill was with tap water (all fills used tap water) and h202…

Then what I proceed to do was after I had drained into the bags.

At this point I used two, 2 gallon pump sprayers, the first one was filled with about a 1/2 cup of lemon juice, 1/2 cup of baking soda, and about 1.5 gallons of RO water…

And the second sprayer was just to rinse it off the solution of the first sprayer and the tap water, this sprayer has clean RO water (it’s not really realistic for me to fill up the washing machine with RO water.

Anyway, not sure if this was a good idea or if it messed up the hash… in fact, I’m a lil worried that the bags may have caught some baking soda in them potentially… the worst part is I am very, very not familiar with how bubble hash should taste and feel so I won’t really know, guess you might have to try it as well if you are curious lol

Wash the baking soda out with vinegar or lemon juice.

What I do when I am making cottage cheese is I add the vinegar and boil it then wait for it to cool and pour off the whey. Once I have all the curds they are infested with vinegar so I rinse with water until it’s gone. You can perform the same task with the bubble bags. Rinse with vinegar to dissolve the baking soda, then wash the vinegar out with plain water. I don’t add anything to my batch except water and ice. You never know how acids/bases are going to interact with the trichome cells.

Cottage cheese? Cottage cheese?!! That stuff is vile. Now I know you’ve lost the plot!

hah hah hah you know making cottage cheese or making hash they have processes in common. In the end you put it in a mesh bag and wash out the crud.

I should get prepped to make another hash batch! I neeeeeed ice! I think I have three more batches to make in the freezer before I run out. Next harvest is coming! Need lots of open space to store it. Sadly…nibblers nibbled at my meat breath sack and it’s alllllll gone! I smoked the last fatty 2 nights ago. Gonna be another 6 weeks before the next batch. Ohhhhhh well! Soon enough I’ll have an entire crop to make into hash. That’s what I do with the big buds. The human eye can’t detect those trichomes on the big bud, so you’d think it’s not very loaded. Microscopic imagery says otherwise. Don’t be fooled by tall trichomes, they don’t increase the yield.

Well, I don’t know if this counts when you said wash out the baking soda with lemon juice, but the baking soda solution already had lemon juice in it…

Do you think there is any way to tell if the hash has baking soda in it? Micro scope?

You could take a small piece of hash and an eyedropper put some acid on there see if it fizzles, that will detect baking soda. The microscope would work, as well.

Any acid preferable? I have citric, phosphorus, and Apple cider vinegar.

well I suppose you could mix a bit of hash in apple cider vinegar and look for bubbles. lol rinse the hash good it might get rid of it.

there are a couple of tests to see if your hash can make the grade.

  1. rub a tiny piece between your fingers. Fine and floury is good, sandy not good, hard chunk is terrible.
  2. put a tiny bit in your mouth it should be spicy
  3. try and melt it. If it all melts and bubbles it should be good. If it doesn’t melt it’s garbage.

Ok, will test it out later, it’s in the freezer for now

Great thread! Finally got around to using the bags I bought so I figure I’ll show off how I did

Used about 4 oz of dried and cured Bud, a mix of blueberry, black Dak, grapefruit x blueberry and a few other odds and ends I’d had around.

After 3 pulls I’m up to about 15g (making an assumption as I just did the third pull).

120 is getting a bit of green on this one - but I went at it for 10 mins - which I know is way too long. Trying to test different stuff out

73u is full melt - beautiful :). Also the most weight here

Last is the 25u bag - not full met but definitely smokes well.

Top is freshly run run and the bottom is after about 3 days open dry.

All hash will readily soften after a few seconds in your hand. Maybe a bit greasy to the touch - not sandy as I’ve had running NL before.

Needless to say I’m happy… gonna run it a fourth time just to see if there’s anything left.
