wow I am insane! Rolling out freeze dried hash to the masses so anyone can do it. Step right up! no 5000$ machine required! It was just some shit I read online about freeze drying food. You get thin slices of apple on parchment put it on a metal tray into the freezer. I was like yo sign me up. Then when buddy offered to do the freeze drying it was the chance to see what it turned out like from the freeze dryer, not just my freezer. Turns out it’s the same thing.
Of course now, seeing it’s a superior method. I have to do it all the time. hah hah
Not to mention vacuum oil and the added electricity. The small home unit pulls 16 amps when the pump is full on.
How long does it take to get it dry in the freezer?
usually I can start ripping it in a week. I haven’t tested to see when it’s really dry though. I just came back a couple weeks later it was dry. I can home in on how long it takes though, and get a better idea. I’ll start by testing it on a weekly basis.
oh I forgot I keep the freeze dried hash in the freezer. Even the stuff made by the freeze dryer. Then when I want to get some out I grab several pinches from the pile and put it in a flap of parchment. Then I hold it between my fingers until it melts into the glass you see above. The terps…man! the terps!
hah hah we just loaded the freeze dried hash into the rosin bag 25 micron, and squished it. I kept the leftover puck for tincture! 65-67C
Can I see the left over puck? I’m curious as to what the left overs looks like.
I have an idea for you or well I want to try out but you can test it before me if you want and that is to put the hash in a Tupperware of some sorts in the freezer with a decent sized silica packet… wondering if that would speed it up, maybe take it from a one week ready situation to a couple days ready sort of deal?
well… here’s the thing. I leave it in the open in the freezer so that the ice can evaporate with sublimation. Each time you open the door then close it again, there is a change in pressure that helps the ice evaporate though. Probably work better in a frost free freezer where it pumps out the air that just crept in the door when you opened it. That will get rid of the vapor pressure. On the other hand I can try it. Next time I find one I’ll try it out.
It may be all the weed in my system talking…
I want to eat that like a chocolate bar. I bet it’s mostly plant lipids and waxes… like chocolate.
So maybe if you have it in container with the packet, you could take it out of the freezer for what like five min and then pop it back in a few times to help speed it up?
Maybe don’t try it with too much, maybe those packets could absorbs terps to altho I doubt the hash would be off gassing much at those temps

I’m going to have to get myself some bubble bags. I remember the bubble hash my partner and I made back in the day. I’ll prob wait for another harvest or two though, gotta recoup the investment already put into this “hobby” the last 10 months lol.
not dried yet, you can see areas of “darker” color that’s an indicator of moisture. I think I am going to lift the parchment off, see if there is any ice. Little tiny bits are dried and rippable I promise not to smoke it all before it dries.
I started growing after my friend asked me why I was still wasting my money on weed. I was like…that motherfucker…is right.
Making hashish is not the most cost effective way to produce and consume. But it is damned sure my favourite. I look at the numbers and go “what a waste.” Then I smoke it and go “ahhhhh.”

sure, make sure there are only buds no fan leaves and no sticks that are longer than 2cm/1inch - they have to be cut shorter.
