Gonna cut some clones off the girls and get them into flower real quick. I might have already waited too long lol.

Good luck with the grow I’ve never run any Bodhi seeds myself

Thanks man!! Imo you should definitely check Bodhi out! I think he has some great genetics, and he’s the kind of person that I like to support. :v:

NL5 are running full tilt now. I’m going to have to cut clones off the top and cut them back or I’m afraid they will ‘OverGrow’ the space they are in lol. :see_no_evil:

Excellent work! These are looking really really good! I’ve never actually seen this strain before. Surprised how much they stretched. Looks great!

Thanks Upstate! I chopped a bunch of clones off them, cut them back quite a bit (getting too big) and they just went into flower like 5-7 days ago! So hopefully about two months and we should have frijoles. :+1:

I actually grew out a couple males and females in 2016. I have no idea why I didn’t make F2’s? But this is a female from back then:

Looks like some serious smoke right there. I always liked pointy buds. Until recently I thought Northern Lights #5 was pure Afghani. I had no idea there is Thai in there( right?) What kind of buzz does it have? Upper, downer or middle of the road?

Yeah, I’ve read that there’s some Thai in it. I used to get some really, really good NL5 years ago, the high wasn’t what you’d expect, at least not from a Northern Lights plant. It was much more “up,” though not racy or anything. Also kinda smelled like Jack, with that noticeably “anise” sorta smell. I liked it. A buddy of mine who’s a big fan of SSH loooooooved it. He’d make the trip from the Valley to Echo Park whenever it was available.

Just stumbled across this log, @PlantShepherd. Definitely gonna be following along. Things look good so far, for sure.

Pretty sure the original PNW northern lights clone was a pure afghani. all the numbered NL lines are its hybrid outcrosses.

Do you know if it was the #5 that maybe might contain Thai genetics? If you Google it, it says that’s a possibility, but I don’t trust Google haha. Or I don’t trust fucking leafly, anyway. I looked at some of the old seed catalogs from Neville from like the mid/late 80’s a while back (were those the SSSC catalogs?), those ones where the descriptions are hand-written haha and I remember one of the Northern Lights descriptions mentioning something about Thai genetics being involved. Maybe?

I think that’s correct that the NL#5 is the PNW Northern Lights indica outcrossed to thai.

The old SSSC catalogs should be a good accurate source about the NL genetics.

Okay, so I’m not just making stuff up then. Good haha! That’d explain the high of the NL5 I used to get, too. Like I said, that shit was way more up and motivating than you’d usually expect from anything Northern Lights.

yeah nl1 is pure afghani, all the other nl’s are outcrosses.
nl2 is hindu kush
nl5 is thai

but there’s two slightly different nl5 lines. there’s pnw “US” nl5, and then there’s Nevil’s NL5. Nevil’s NL5 was a pheno he selected that did not show any thai influence.

So that one was a stabilized line that contained Thai genetics, but Nevil selected plants that didn’t exhibit any Thai traits? As far as growth patterns were concerned? Or something?

I gotta say, both the straight NL5 that I’ve only smoked, never grown and one of the two NL2 crosses that I have grown (the Big Sur Nigerian/NL2 testers for Bodhi) smoked way differently than you would think, considering the NL in the line. I’ve already talked about the NL5, but that Nigerian/NL2 cross was fucking fantastic. Really almost the perfect “psychedelic Sativa” plant. Yielded really well, finished in about ten weeks, didn’t stretch too bad and the high really was amazing. Also seemed to have some pain-killing effects, because my friend’s eighty-year-old dad loved it for his aches and pains. I gave him a couple jars of it, just because it worked so well for him. It also greened-out my friend Natalie, who’s my “never smokes except when she hangs out with me” tester. Never seen her green-out before.

Seems like the original NL lines really were a great example of what you can find when you do large selections of relatively pure crosses. I dunno where Bodhi got that NL2 male from, but I wish he’d use it more. Apparently, he didn’t make many seeds of the Nigerian/NL2, but that’s absolutely a line he should’ve released. Or at least revisit to make enough seeds available to the public, even if it’s just a one-off. I still have three or four seeds of it, gonna grow them out once I feel comfortable with my cloning skills. That’s definitely one I wanna keep around.
