My second season of outdoor growing

I’ve gotten so used to vaping …in a Pax, smoking a joint just tastes… bad now…
…I’ve been corrupted… :flushed:

I did it! 3 puffs - probably amounting to one solid hit. I can feel it but not debilitated or concerned that I’m going to be forgetting dinner in the oven. Tastes good, not quite like it smells but certainly very enjoyable. Smell from the grinder incredible like a mixed-berry pie, taste has a bit of citrus tang mixed with sweet, maybe strawberry or something - my herb “palate” is not very developed. I feel relaxed and inspired to work on something. Happy 10/10 from this out-of-practice head. Actually super curious how it tastes smoked now, I hadn’t vaped anything in a while. We’ll find out soon enough :sunglasses:

Favorite of all the things I’ve had so far this season! And I’m really a fan of the Super Lemon Haze and Sweet Afghani Delicious that’s stacked in the stash already, I don’t think any of the others are “bad,” they’re just not my favorites. I’m sure everyone here understands that phenomenon. Looking forward to letting it finish drying slow and curing for a few weeks.

@Gpaw - I had almost forgotten how good vaping tasted. Definately going to be using this more, got it all cleaned out and charged up for action!

Smells good in this place…and that Jelly sure looks Fire, just dabbed some oil and can say for certain, I like whats going on around here! Plants and plans sound good to me, I wont be surprised if some of that is ready sooner, your ladies really started to flower pretty early, they look so good and healthy man!

It smells fire in HERE :fire:

Whole Hella Jelly plant this morning

Hella Jelly buds this morning

All that remains. Left is the Avenue of the Giants, which is mostly in the dry cabinet, some in the freezer. Used a more efficent approach to stripping the Hella Jelly as I get a tad more skilled with this.

Chopped the nice parts of it for dry, looks like 4-6oz dry to me, froze the smalls and lowers for hash. I’m getting 1-2oz out of each of these filled wet trays once they are dry, and I’ve got 4 that are pretty packed with nugs. I don’t bother weighing anything wet, but I’m guessing the trays are 4-6oz each when they go in the cabinet. I try to keep stuff seperated enough to dry efficiently. I’m going to have to trim my way though 4 of those trays in the next week or so to make room for Snow-G, coming up a week or two behind this.

Here’s a pic of the fresh-frozen for attempting hashmaking. I’ll do the same with the rest of the plants.

Any reason in particular you vacuum pack them?

Less room in the freezer, which is full of food.

Hindsight - probably shouldn’t have done that because the trichs are still soft, we’ll see how it washes. I’ve been reading your thread before I attempt it

With a lighter for scale. We’re about half way through (3 photos harvested, 3 remaining), but these girls are going to be some work to wash/dry/trim.

Snow-G and the Hashplant are pretty tidy colas that despite the fact they are big, should be efficient to harvest. Hawaiian Snow is going to require a heavy wash because of all the ladybug cocoons or whatever they are called, left over from when the larvae turn into ladybugs. Those things are everywhere on her.

Awesome Man! To put it bluntly, those are some Big Ass Buds! I love how you got the lighter just hanging out in those huge bush-like colas, doesn’t even look like it was hard to place it in there, definitely brings a new perspective to the viewer. They look really dense and full too. Can practically smell em!
Also doing some harvests of my own every three days or so now, so much work and lots of bug stuff to clean out as well, but worth it, just hitting it in phases and thankfull to have a harvest at all, twas a close call, so glad we’re both able to get to this point. I really appreciate your guidance and friendship. You grow some Amazing plants man and it was a lot of fun growing together this season. Blessings Brother!

LOL, it wasn’t hard to place but I had to wash it with isopropyl alcohol afterwards  Probably going to pull samples from each plant today for a microscope trichome check, it’s unseasonally rainy this week so I’m going to wait for that to burn off later morning.

So far, nothing has really been that dense after drying. Certainly nothing like the indoor dispensary stuff. I don’t think it matters but it’s definately more airy than I’m used to seeing. I’ve only ever really studied these buds so I don’t have much to compare to. I though HJ was going to be super dense but once it drys the nugs shrink down and the colas look much less intimidating.

Thanks for the kind words! It’s been nice to see everyone elses grows though the season as I’m watching mine. Definately gives some perspective and insights into what does and doesn’t work, things to try next year. Appreciate having other people chime in and confirm my suspicions/techniques when things aren’t obvious.

I’m definately shrinking the scale of the operation next year. I think I’m going to run two “fast” strains in 15 gallons, because I am happy with the way that Sweet Seeds black domina turned out. I got Cream Caramel Fast and Jack 47 Fast. Hopefully they run the same way, harvest August sometime. I’ll run more autos to get my variety factor, looking at some better breeders for those. Probably 2 runs over the course of the summer. I already got my pack of Ace Honduras x Panama, looking forward to that, and I’ll probably run Hella Jelly again and maybe some heavy indica sleep strain - 9lb hammer is calling to me. 2 fast plants rather than 1, that turned out better than expected and earlier than expected. I’ll go from 5 to 3 full-size photo plants, and maybe keep the number of autos the same - 3 at a time. Of course, this season taught me a LOT about how to grow. My veggies are probably going to be off-the-chain next year with everything I’ve learned about soil, pest management, bed arrangment.

Was telling the other half the other night how bizarre gardening is in my mind. I already don’t care nearly as much about the gardens (vegetable/fruit/herbs) right now, as they are starting to fade end-of-the-season. I’m already thinking about next year and what I’m going to change. She thinks I’m a tad crazy, but she’s happy that it brings me calm and it’s an activity I can share with our daughter. She loves being outside in the stroller as we pick tomatoes, watermelons, chiles and just being outside in the evenings with us.

Have a great day man, hopefully I’ll be back in a few hours with some trich pics and will come up with a plan for Snow-G and Hawaiian Snow. The hashplant definately needs a few more weeks, but everytime I look at those other two I wonder if I’m waiting too long.

Had too much fun with the microscope this morning

WARNING: EXPLICIT TRICHOME IMAGERY FOLLOWS

Snow-G: Probably some more time to go…lots of cloudy, not much amber. Maybe another week - I say that every week

Hawaiian Snow: She’s not putting out many pistils anymore, mix of clear/cloudy but I feel like an out-of-practice gemologist with inadequate training

Dragon’s Hashplant: Definately needing some more weeks. Fresh pistils galore, and I want this ripe enough to send me into a coma for the night

Figured I’d take some of the stuff out of the cure bags and see what we’re working with on the old harvests.

Hella Jelly: Harvested about 2 weeks before I chopped the plant - so a little less ripe than most of the harvest. Freshly trimmed/curing now.

Avenue of the Giants: Harvested about a week before I chopped. Freshly trimmed/curing now.

SAD Fast: Harvested: August 19, solid 4-week cure

Critical Kush Auto: Harvested August 12, 5-week cure. Stuffed into Grove bags because it didn’t fit great, little trichome damage.

Runtz XL Auto: Harvested July 22, 8-week cure. Some damage due to packing into Grove bags.

Super Lemon Haze Auto: Harvested July 22, 8-week cure. Same, damage due to stuffing Grove bags to their limit.

Some lessons here, buy bigger grove bags than you need. I hate to see the broken trichome heads on the autos. I chose to do this because the first few weeks of cure with the older harvest I didn’t burp the jars frequently enough. Then it became apparent that I’d need a dedicated closet with all the jars, and I ordered some Grove bags for 1) ease of curing, 2) volume reduction. Also, I’m overall very happy with the stash. Thanks to all of you guys for the advice and guidance that got me this great collection of weed so far. PLUS, MORE TO COME! :sunglasses: :cowboy_hat_face:

Oh my! Am I in heaven? If not, please let me stay? Beautiful buds and beautiful pics of those buds and trichs, cant ask for more!
Im with ya on toning it down a bit…lol…I bit off alittle more than I want to chew this year, but I’ll finish it. Probably just two or three medium plants from now on, kind of got the big girl itch takin care of, though always easier said than done. I like what you said about how our minds shift with the seasons, its relieving to be through another year but always exciting getting prepared for the next!

Well, I was planning on harvesting Snow-G today. That’s not going to happen.

sx oct6

Here I am, in the middle of a desert, a desert that saw NO precipitation last October, raining everyday on my thick, ripe colas. It looks like the first day it could potentially work is Tuesday, but I’m flying out of town for work on Tuesday. Hopefully NEXT Friday is rain-free. Hopefully I don’t just wind up with giant mold colas.

Anything I should do to reduce the mold potential? H2O2 spray? Already chopped a broken limb off the Hawaiian Snow, the water weight was just too much for one of the branches and it had snapped into the mud. Clipped that off, everything else is looking really great and fading beautifully, I’ll grab some pics if rain allows. No wonder people harvest before the rains come, it wasn’t a problem I expected to have. Can’t do anything about it now though, so here I am. Maybe I’ll go out and top-dress some stuff to keep them reasonably happy for the next week without over-doing it.

given the circumstances, i think maybe @NorthNorthNugs would tell you to just take her down :grimacing:

do you have room for any, or all of the Hawaiian Snow? how do the lowers look?

sucks about the weather, and timing of the trip isn’t super great…

How catastrophic is the rain? Is that like guaranteed mold? I could probably fit the entire Snow-G and maybe a half of the Hawaiian Snow.

I could just harvest in the rain, but I actually worry the mold risk would be greater because the buds aren’t really going to dry as fast as usual before I put them in the cabinet.

If I should pull them today, I’d just put all the current trays into grove giant sacks and stuff whatever I can in the cabinet.

Morning…Sorry had some stuff come up in the middle of this, but heres my opinions, sounds like your preparing to grab some? Id say if she’s done or close to, and if you can stand it, I also say go out in the rain and get her. At least some of her? I know you aren’t stressin it, all those buds already stinkin up the house but as you said, the rain and storms could and probably will bring the grey mold, (ive been losing some dense buds off the bbm x eck here already, but we’ve had rain for the last month or more on and off, I also feel its been more than usual), as far as the h202 go’s, my thoughts are…this season, Ive been using straight 3% from the bottle and have noticed if I do it early in the morning and then again late at night(to beat the dew and the sun), I haven’t noticed an extreme benefit, it is hard to tell if the weather just got drier and that is what has helped the pm or what, most likely as usual a whole bunch of factors that I just cant pinpoint, but anyway, the h202 at a full 3% doesnt seem to hurt the plants, if it reacts stongly, there might already be mold or mildew present, but it does still react to all the dirt and other crap on them, helping to give the plants a good wash, I should say though, Im doing this just on my plants that already had the pm, and I think its important to state again that this is best done before and after a rain, possibly after dark, and in the morning when the plants are already wet from the dew, no real evidence to say if this helps or not, but I dont think it hurts if done at the right times. Im finding too, that a good soak right before chop can save some time when cleaning. Actually just heading up to spray em down and decide what should be taken today. If your gonna be gone, didnt catch how long, but yeah, I personally wont leave my plants for longer than 24hrs(i get your in a bind, sucks man!), Id try and get whats ripe and even close to good for safe measures. Get er done! Maybe leave a few branches of each to test their durability and possibly get some really nice mature late buds, anywho, hope you figure it out, sounds like your already are on it. Good luck bro, Im out to spray down my babies and see what I can pull :v:

Well shit. I’ll see what I can manage this morning then. Probably just hang up some branches in the shed this morning, of course it’s a wild day today and need to get out of here for some appointments late morning. I’ll deal with the rest of the bucking and big leaf removal tomorrow morning when I don’t have as much on my plate.

I’ll do a high-strength peroxide wash and rinse, just hang in the shed to move things fast. I’ll only take down half or so of the Hawaiian and try to pull the whole Snow-G. The Hashplant isn’t even debateably ready, so we’ll just see how that fares until I get back.

Really appreciate the input guys, out of my element here.

Snow-G: Going to wash and hang in the shed. I’ll deal with cleaning out the dry cabinet tomorrow. She’s perfect in terms of ripeness I think, all cloudy, all dry pistils. I can’t find any white ones anymore, just super frosty

Hawaiian Snow: Going to chop and hang however much I can today, aiming for about a third of her. She’s confusing because she should need another few weeks but she has dried pistils and hasn’t fattened up in a few weeks. Trichs indicate she’s getting close, so going to chop some in case of mold and leave the rest to ripen.

Dragon’s Hashplant isn’t ready yet but she’s pretty. Whatever happens, happens. Not going to cut anything here today

Wish me luck and strong/quick scissors :slightly_smiling_face: it’ll be raining again in a few hours
