North's 2022 Outdoor

Cue crowd applause.

Cue lights.

3…2…1…

Announcer emerges from backstage through a dark mist. A single spotlight illuminates the stage. He arrives at the mic stand and motions to the crowd to quiet down. Silence fills the arena. He waits a few beats before he speaks.

“The battle is heating up in the Northern Roof Top Garden Arena! It’s North vs The Shitty Asshole Trash Panda’s (crowd erupts with cheers)…

The trash pandas have been coming at North’s precious rooftop garden with bountiful piles of shit on the daily! Ohhh that’s gotta hurt, North!! (Crowd erupts with laughter).

North’s not going to take this laying down though… He’s a man with a plan! (Crowd cheers!)

He quickly concocts a TPJ (trash panda juice). Which is a mixture of cayenne pepper, hot chilli flakes and hot pepper sauce, boiled then cooled and left to infuse over night. (The crowd ohhh’s and awwwe’s)

The next day, North goes on a spraying bender! (Stage lights fade to red) He’s a an absolute MAD MAN with the spray nozzle, covering ever inch at the bottom of the garden. He laughs like a deranged lunatic as he layers the floor of the garden in hot pepper juice! He’s lost it folks!!! (A collective GASP comes over the crowd)

The following day, there is no fresh trash panda shit in any of his pots! SUCCESS!! (Crowd erupts in cheers and applause)

The trash pandas continually torment North on the daily though. They are shitting everywhere except in his plants! Although semi acceptable, North is not a happy camper. (“Awwweeeeee” from the crowd)

This fight isn’t over!

North swears vengeance!!!”

(Standing ovation from crowd)

Fade out.

End scene.

Hahaha

Guise… I didn’t get killed by any bald face hornets… YET! You still have to put up with my updates.

Fkn trash pandas are killin me over here. I’ve been cleaning up their shit on the daily but then I just stopped and then they stopped pooping. So now my garden has piles of trash panda shit everywhere but at least there’s no new stuff.

The photos have started their stretch. Getting really tall now, like maybe 6.5 feet or so.

Got a few deficiencies popping up. Especially in the SD x SS plant. I believe this is a combination of nitrogen, calcium, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus. Quite possibly also some micro nutrients as well.

I’ve been hitting them with foliar of a mixed bag of water soluble nutes for these ailments so hopefully that will slow it down. SD x SS is a hungry mofo!

Crème de la Chem is also showing a deficiency, which is a bit weird bc that soil is fresh. These leaves at the top of the plant are beginning to yellow. I know that a lack of nitrogen shows from the bottom up, but which one is it again that shows from the top down? Otherwise this is one sturdy plant!! Main stalk is THICC and the buds are forming up something fierce. Smells absolutely DANK too so far. I swear it like stings my eyes. So excited for this one.

I also chopped my Zkittlez auto this wk. I would’ve probably let her go a little longer but I needed the soil in the pot for the next round of autos. He trichomes were cloudy, with no signs of any brown but hell… she’ll be potent. Typically I like to chop with about 20% brown and mostly all cloudy but she’ll be fun to smoke. Here it is at chop.

I’ll be growing a Seedsman Strawberry Cheese Cake (Strawberry Banana auto x Cheese auto) and a G13 Labs Sunset Vibes ((GSC x Pink Panties) x Ruderalis) for my next round of autos. These were basically just freebie seeds but I just enjoy how easy autos are and the fact that you can sneak in a few harvests throughout the season. Plus, let’s just see what they turn into!

Wedding Cheese Cake and Mango Smile are still going strong. WCC is an absolute stellar beauty! I fregging love this plant. If she’s half as fun to smoke as she smells and looks then I’m in for a real treat. She’s been a pleasure to watch.

Also went out one morning to find this snapped branch on the Snow G. It’s a huge branch! So I patched her up. That’s the second one like that to just snap. That’s probably like 2-3 zips!

Spending a lot of time cleaning up the bottoms and inner portions of the plant. Learned my lesson last year that this is very important for later in the season. Hence all the leaves and branching all over the ground out there.

Other than that nothing too crazy to report. Star pupil and Snow G have a really similar structure. The Lemon Afghani is coming along nicely also.

The goji’s are getting real tall too!

That’s it for now! Until next time 🤌🏻

Got some real monsters going there duder! Very cool, glad you haven’t had to resort to staking out the rooftop with a slingshot or a BB gun to handle those friggin raccoons.

I’m not going to sit here and say that didn’t cross my mind. I may have even imagined some kind of motion sensor control power sprayer…

I forgot to take pics of Mango Smile. Trichomes are all mostly clear or a bit cloudy but then some look amber. This one is confusing me a lot but since she has those “sativa” genes, I’m letting go for the long haul until I can clearly see some cloudy to amber.

I LOVE THE FOXTAILING OF THIS MONSTA!

Has the humidity been pissing your flowering plants off as well? My yard has a decent flow of air but still the humidity over the past week pushed my Manitoba Poison over the edge into the start of bud-rot so I cropped her after work on thurs.

My hope is to hear that the elevated nature of your garden’s location negates the bullshit i’m dealing with.

Brilliant work with the :raccoon: battle! Last time I battled I needed to switch up the attack every 3 days because of how smart the raccoons around here are after breeding for generations in a city environment.

Gotta love there hubris and survivability; not to mention their ability to become dapper hats.

Ya I’m really excited to try it. It’s not the structure I was expecting but it’s a Seedsman auto, so who knows wtf the actual genetics are. I don’t think it’s a typical zkittez structure but it smells like bitter lemon peel and dank basement so it should be fun.

As far as humidity goes, the benefit of the rooftop is airflow! It’s key!! My backyard will be hot and still and when I go up on the roof there’s always a bit of a breeze going so I think it really helps. Having the Blumats and constant access to water helps too I think. So anyway, haven’t noticed too much stress from the humidity yet.

Ya man, I can’t believe how smart and resourceful they are. It’s amazing actually and I kind of respect them for it.

Wild day!

So many crazy bugs in the garden. Hopefully most of these are friendly.

This is a spotted grapevine beetle. Looks like a giant lady bug. After a google search I learned they are relatively harmless to plants. It was on the Star Pupil. Note the purpling on the stem… should be fun to watch in bloom.

This Stink Bug is fknnnn huuuuuuge bro!
(Thumb for scale)

What the fuck is this?!

This cocoon thing, which I’m pretty sure is some kind of caterpillar/month thing. Found another one making a nest in the leaves so I snuffed it out.

I need to get into entomology with all these bugs I’m finding. Plants seem to be mostly happy though. Still seeing lots of fading leaves on the Sour Diesel x Sweet Skunk plant. I’m a little concerned but I’m trying not to overreact and do something that’s going to make it worse. I’m hoping the top dressing I added a few weeks ago will start to remedy the situation. I top dressed the pots again today with a quarter to half cup of craft blend again today. Will try to sit back and see what happens.

I took down the Mango Smile today. Pretty confident I pulled her down at the right time. Trichomes are showing mainly cloudy with some amber but also a few clear. It should have a good mix. I’d leave it longer but I’m heading out of town soon and needed to get the other autos set up.

After the MS was down I shifted things around a little. The autos were getting a bit shaded by the photos so I moved them forward a bit and moved the Crème de la Chem to give it some more breathing room. The Wedding Cheese Cake (sitting on the milk crate in the photo below) is getting really close. She’ll come down in a few days so I removed her from the Blumats system and will be hand watering until chop. I’ve stopped all the extra teas and feedings on the autos that were finishing up a few weeks ago.

CDLC has some breathing room now and won’t be in such a shaded spot.

I removed some of the yellowing leaves from the CDLC to deter pests from moving in on them. Still haven’t had a lot of time to research this issue but I added some extra water soluble nutrients to the teas in the last few wks.

Found a bit of bud rot on the WCC, so I very carefully removed it.

WCC is looking really frosty and getting ready for harvest soon.

Getting to be show time soon! I hate that summers coming to an end but flowering cannabis plants certainly make it a lot easier to swallow. Buckle up folks! This party’s just getting started.

Love the photo / auto side by side grow. Very illuminating indeed!

Oh you got to! It’s such a relief to have a few early harvests. It’s like getting bud while waiting for bud… lol it’s an absolute no brainer. Especially since autos are such a breeze to grow. Now that I figured out that capillary mat/bottomless pot method these babies are going to be even more worth my while.

Buncha baseball bats in there bud, I love it! Tell me more about the capillary mat situation, info further up in the thread maybe?

Ok so I figured out the issue with CDLC if anyone else is interested. That little clear bug:

Is a leaf hopper nymph (fancy word for young insect). Leaf hoppers are giant whores who suck plant juices from the bottoms of the leaves hence why the leaves are yellowing on the CDLC. I’ve noticed a few of the adults around from time to time as well but I didn’t know what they were until now.

Adults:

The basic jist is that you start a seed in a 1 gallon fabric pot and place it on a capillary garden mat. It’s just a piece of fabric that wicks water. You soak the mat instead of watering the top of the pot to train the roots to grow downward. At about day 21 the roots should be busting out of the bottom of the pot. You then take the pot and carefully cut away the bottom and place it on top of your outdoor bed or pot, preferably a larger pot. I dug into the pot a few inches just to let it get settled. So ya, you just place the exposed roots in the new pot and it basically just explodes! Instead of transplant shock you get a big surge of growth at a perfect time for the auto to settle in before the flowering stretch. This has significantly increased growth in all my autos.

You don’t have to use a capillary mat or fabric pot even really. You could just use a cheap plastic pot and place it in a deep saucer or something. The basic idea is that you just place water in the bottom so that it wicks up into the soil. The roots will go down in search of moisture. I’ve tried this with the plastic small pots and it works pretty well but the better set up is the fabric 1 gals and capillary action. The best thing with the capillary mat is that you can set one end into a bucket of water and not have to even worry about it (until the bucket empties).

oh shit thats awesome! i gotta look into that, sounds real cool. as far as those leaf hoppers are concerned i feel our pain buddy. if you figure out a treatment that works lemme know, ive been using spinosaid in veg for the caterpillars, and dr zymes for everything else but nothing seems to have handled those damned things

I’ll smash the plants with some insectcidal soap, hopefully that takes care of things. The only reason they are bothering the CDLC is bc I haven’t sprayed it down in a while bc it started flowering and it was also sandwiched between two larger photoperiods and was mostly in the shade. I think it was just an ideal environment for them to thrive a bit… I’ve since moved it out to a more sunny spot so hopefully that helps. Shes not in rapid decline so I think she’ll make it through to harvest… may just have to supplement a few heavier feedings.

you using the safers stuff? i think i hit them once with that soon after they went out, but havent hit em since, might have to bring that back into the rotation while they’re still in veg if it does the trick getting rid of em

ohhh nooo. got any more pics of her?

Ya, exactly. I typically hit them on the weekly with that stuff but rotate between sulphur, LABS and then the safers stuff. Not sure I want to spray it on a flowering plant though, that stuff smells so weird.

Ya I’ll try and get some uploaded soon.

I gotta get on that sulphur train, you just using the wettable sulphur or something else?

And yea, I cut everything out except for the dr. Zymes if needed once flower starts too.

It’s a micronized Sulphur powder …
