North's 2022 Outdoor

That’s a bummer on the damage bud but it looks like you handled it well!

@NorthNorthNugs Gotta admit it, I too have been lurking here! :joy: Just a spectacular display you’ve got going bro! If there was ever a time for the neighborhood to be shouting from their rooftops - THIS is it! May you continue having such a blast up there for years to come…(Note to self; Next house build, install aircraft tie-downs to roof beams!).
Best of luck w/the finish…and trim!

Thanks for the kind words! Happy to have you here lurking. Need to update soon, probably Monday, been a really busy week. Plants are looking great, took the autos and the CBD cultivar, Japhy, and the Goji’s down yesterday. Buds are looking crazy!

Here’s the N8 Goji:

@Tlander not sure if you saw this edit:
About what you said about shouting from the rooftops, I love that. It IS a statement growing up there. I’m so against the stigmas of cannabis use. I’m so sick and tired of the ignorance. I already have so many neighbours tell me how much they love the plants and their kids asking them to grow their own “rooftop garden”. Hoping for starts a trend for sure :+1:t3:

I was thinking a battle-tested clone would be nice to put out like that. finish a bit quicker, and less uncertainty…

that’s awesome dude. :+1:

I wish more people grew even one consumable plant. basil for pizza, cilantro and/or chilis for tacos, mint for mojitos, cherry tomatoes for salads…so many things very worth growing that just aren’t difficult.

Yes! I was just loosely going over the plan for next year and there are a bunch of REG seeds I wanna hunt and plant outdoors for next year. A clone is a great option.

I agree with this so much!! This would be so beneficial for society in so many ways.

Harvest season is among us!!

GLORY DAYS!

It’s been a busy 10 days to say the least and I haven’t even started trimming yet :joy: All these different plants with different ripeness levels and harvest times, but I love it. All plants are showing cloudy trichomes with a few clear. The Autos were a really mixed bag. Lots of all types! I would say it was like 33% percent each of clear, cloud and amber… So very confusing.

Typically I let my plants go to 20-30% amber before chop but that was back when I was just slowly building up my tolerance. Without getting into it too much, I took a huge break from consuming cannabis and really took my time getting back into it so I was a bit nervous to chop my plants too early and get something that would make me an anxious mess. Since my tolerance has built back up a bit, I wanted to chop these plants to where they were showing very little amber and mostly cloudy.

I find this challenging with a jeweller’s loupe so I picked up one of those wifi microscopes. It helped a little but I found it a bit annoying to work with. It was difficult to get it focused properly. Also, I was hoping it would zoom in enough to see the ripeness of each trichome, showing the abscission between the heads and body as seen below in a post from Frenchy.

Here are some various shots of my plants and you will see lots of cloudy trich’s at harvest.

Japhy, my CBD cultivar from Hoku would be the first to come down, followed by the autos and my Goji OG’s on Sept 29th. I waited 3 days and chopped the Star Pupil and Snow G on October 3rd. The Afghan Lemon and Sour D x Sweet Skunk are still hanging on!

Below is Japhy at chop. You’ll notice a few photos with trimmed fan leaves on the buds. This was a mistake on my part. Due to restricted drying space and for basic exploration, I want to make some bubble hash with this crop, so I’m taking a few branches off each plant and freezing them for fresh frozen solventless extraction. I watched a seminar on how to prep the buds for this process and it suggested that you defoliate a week or two before, allowing the plant to heal the stems so you get less chlorophyl contamination. I got over zealous and cut some of the leaves that didn’t have any trichomes on them when typically, if you can’t cut it at the stem you should just leave them. It didn’t feel right while I was doing it but luckily it was only a few branches… Mental note for next time.

Strawberry Cheese Cake and Sunset Vibes were the next to go down. Both were very frosty and smelled sweet and delicious. The SCC has a really nice frost to her once I peeled back some of the longer fan leaves. Sunset Vibes had a great structure with lots of grenade nuggets all over! I can’t wait to sample both of these.

Here’s Strawberry Cheese Cake:

Sunset Vibes:

The Goji’s were next on the chopping block. They finished really strong for me and I was proud of this reveg project. They were very floppy at the end but man did they STACK! Nugs like fat lemons!!

Star Pupil was the next one to come down. I really debated taking her down three days before this but with such great weather I let her chill for a few extra days and she seemed to beef up just a little bit. Trichcomes mostly cloudy with some amber, so she got the chop on Oct 3rd. Looking really nice at chop:

The last candidate for the chop was Snow G. Now… let me tell you how disappointed I am in this one so far… She had a good amount of PM on her. In the strain description it states “She’s a prolific plant with huge, fast-growing colas, thick trichome coverage, and exceptional mold resistance.” Prolific is a stretch and the whole ‘exceptional mold resistance’ is a fkn FARCE as far as I’m concerned. Out of ALL the plants I grew this season, this one was THE LEAST mold resistant. She better be a KILLER smoke because she was a real bitch to clean. This was the only plant I washed this season. All plants looked exceptionally clean to me and had just endured 3 days of rain a few days before they were all chopped. Luckily for me, the weather turned around and it got sunny and dry. The plants were all happy, except for this one. I’m not a huge fan of breeders who lie on their strain descriptions and I don’t think I’ll be spending money with twenty20 any longer. I mean, it’s one thing to say your plant should hold up well against mold and it’s another thing to boast about how exceptional it is… She did finish quickly enough luckily before it got to out of hand, so there’s that at least. Smelling rank with bad breath, halitosis terps… a little fuel coming in but honestly I was expecting more, especially with the SFVOG in the lineage. Hoping it cures to a nice, gassy OG funk. We’ll see… Here she is at chop, PM and all:

The Afghan Lemon and Sour D x Sweet Skunk remain standing. I reached out to Chimera (@breedingwithcannabis on IG), who’s the breeder of the SDxSS with some pictures of the buds. He suggested 2-3 more weeks! Good thing the weather is looking nice this year and she should finish out strong. THe stem is holding together with a lot of help and she doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of stress… or at least too much. I think the yield and bud development will suffer in the end but she’s a beast! Here’s some latest shots of her:

The Lemon Afghan is finishing up nicely and showing senescence. The buds are very airy but I like it! Because she is being grown for ice water hash production, I know that airy buds wash very well. Her lemon scent is uncanny! Very strong, hashy, creamy lemon terps!!! Just like the description promised. She was heavily defoliated yesterday to let her heal for the next week or so in preparation for the solventless extraction process. She is also showing spots of PM on her fans, nothing on the actual buds yet. If I see it growing, I’ll chop her, remove the buds with PM and freeze the rest immediately. I removed the fans very carefully, hoping I didn’t compound the PM issue. Anyway, here’s some pics:

Welp! That’s all I got for you for now. My basement is STACKED… trim jail coming soon!!!

Many thanks for your elaborate updates!

What does the star pupil smell like?

Delicious.

Very fragrant, sweet… purple. Haha. Bit of grape, bit of grape juice, berry with hints of grape bubble gum.

I went back to really re-evaluate the smell… There’s no denying that it’s mouth watering but there is definitely a floral aspect to it, but like, fruity floral… I want to say lavender. Sometimes I struggle with these smells and can’t find the right words to describe them. It’s got a perfume aspect to it, but just slight. Floral, fruity and there is definitely something sweet in there. I think because it’s so purple that your mind automatically goes to purple smelling things… it is unique but it also reminds me of the sherbert x irene I grew last year. It’s just got that sweet purfume thing going on… like fresh, sweet flowers.

Sorry if that was repetitive hahaha

The Afghan Lemon was taken down this week shucked into chunks and frozen for later hash production. I was happy to leave it for an extra week to let everything ripen nicely. She has the most amazing lemon smell! A bit lemon cleaner, a bit lemon candy and altogether floral. After the buds down I placed the bags open inside my chest freezer. Coming back the next day to seal the bags I was greeted with an amazing lemon and cream smell. I can’t wait to make some bubble hash rosin with this one!! It’s going to be out of this world delicious.

Here she is at chop:

I set up a little work station and took her down branch by branch, tossing small loads in the freezer as I went.

I left the two seeded branches on the plant to see if I can let the seeds develop a little more. I shucked a few immature ones and thought I really have nothing to lose by leaving them up. I check them a few days later and there was no real signs of stress or anything in the remaining leaves… we’ll see what happens.

Sour D x Sweet Skunk is the last one standing! She’s really come into the zone. Hoping to possible leave her until Oct 14-21. Weather’s been amazing but there’s a wind storm tonight! I anchored her down with some rope and bungee cords, good luck baby!! Haha I have nothing to lose at this point. If the winds breaks her in half tonight I’ll just harvest the branches tmrw. Hoping to let her ride another 7 days or so more though. She’s had nothing but water for the last 8 days or so and beyond that I just added a bit of microbes to the water.

I’ve been convicted of growing the dank, found guilty and will have to serve some time in trim jail starting tmrw… can’t wait to blast my eyes with terps and smoke some fkn finger hash! Woooo!!

Great show. I enjoyed watching your roof top grow. I must have missed it, what did you pollinate your Afghan Lemon with?

Keep pushing that wheel! I’ll be sharing the pain come Saturday; I just battened down the hatches for the predicted windstorm. :+1:

Haha that wheel is a perfect analogy! Too funny…

I gotta catch up with your thread. Best of luck with the wind storm!

My :uk: :cheese: is REALLY pissed off this am. The rain soaked buds are bending heavy and would have snapped over night if I didn’t do a few “barrel wraps” around the plant with twine.

:crossed_fingers: no fuckery with your roof bud.

Haha ya… not a happy camper this morning.

If I didn’t have those steaks she’d be a broken mess… The stalk is really just starting to break and crack all over. Found 5-6 spots of botrytis yesterday as well. She may need to be harvested tmrw tbh… going to see if I can push it until early next week.
