My pot of typicals has been coming along nicely though, this pot is about 7 years old. Rescued a few when they were nearly dead and Lowes marked them down to $1 each…

The Sarracenia Flava are coming along nicely. These are always the first pitcher plants to produce traps.

This Matanuska Thunder Head is gonna get chopped this Sunday, it will be day 69 of flowering…these are the latest pictures.

Great mixture of clear, cloudy and ambers…just the way I like my plants on harvest…

Ok, here it is folks the final product…the budz are compact and sugar coated in the nooks and crannies…the most tedious part of growing is still up ahead, you guys know what I’m talking about, TRIMMING, I hate it but it has to be done. My guesstimation is probably 2.5+ onces when its dried.

The first picture is a bud that got too close to the lights, I have a couple of those but I’m glad that they were only the small budz. Other than that, it looks like this Matanuska Thunder Head grow was a success.

Well finally I got everything trimmed, dried and in jars…I definitely underestimated the final weight, I got 127 grams and all of it are in jars curing except for these popcorn budz…I will be rolling joints and passing these buds out for the townspeople & my grower buddies to taste…

JST, I have to stop going to Walmart lawn and garden dept. It’s so hard just passing these VTF up without buying 1 or 2 at these prices…I keep hoping they have other carnivorous plants but they don’t.

The red one in the middle is one of the new VTF which I just got today…

It’s hard to pass those “death cubes” up when you see them and know you’re the only thing between those VFT’s and certain death. I got a few at Lowes when they were almost entirely brown and they marked them down to a buck each. This is them now, they’d be even bigger with more traps if I hadn’t flowered them out the past few years.

And to give you a better idea of size that’s my thumb. Not many traps open, they’ve been very hungry this year.

What do you think of this?

It’s most likely 50% peat, 50% perlite. I use that mix in most of my carnivorous plants. As with anything, it’s cheaper to buy the sphagnum peat moss and perlite separately and make your own mix. That will work though. Just a friendly heads up, never use Miracle Grow brand products cause they can potentially kill them if there’s even a little fertilizer in there.

JST, saw these at Lowes, I can’t find perlite anywhere so I bought Vermiculite, will it work

I personally have never used vermiculite and don’t know anybody who does. The sphagnum peat moss will do the job of retaining the water. The perlite’s job is the same as it is with growing cannabis, to allow drainage and oxygen to the roots, while preventing the soil from compacting too much. You can grow in pure peat but it’s not ideal. I’m going to go ahead and tell you no on the vermiculite just because there are better options that I know are safe and they do well with.

Though expensive, this is the best thing you can use. Just plant them straight in this, no additives needed. It’s recyclable and unlike the peat/perlite mix doesn’t have to be replaced every year. I just pull it up and repot with it. I think I have some that is 5 or 6 years old now in my pot bottoms.

I already have this peat moss and was thinking of getting this perlite…

That perlite is fine. Do a 50/50 peat/perlite mix.

Finally got perlite, 8qts. $12 from Amazon…I should have a plastic pot around somewhere…

I got this dormant pitcher plant from a friend…Can I plants this now or is it too late in the year?

Transplanted for this years ice cold winter…

Very nice, those big pots should offer better protection. Really helps in dormancy when you get hit with heavier frosts and temporary deep freezes. With the sphagnum peat, watch out after a frost cause it can quickly dehydrate. Also, avoid watering from the top during the winter dormancy as it can cause them to get mold really bad. Water in the tray from the bottom. Mine will be outside until about early to mid November. I let them catch a few freezes before putting them to bed in an enclosed garage. I only repot once a year, in April right before they wake up and come out of dormancy.

I’ll post some updates of mine tommorow.
