speaking of purple unicorn, back in june i tossed four clones outside (i took from cloning the now deceased purple unicorn mother plant i had). they’ve performed really well and stood up to stressors (storms, etc). the buds are 100 percent solid dark purple, not a hint of green anywhere. the only problem is they need more time to flower. i have kept them in 5 gallon air pots this whole time and i’m going to try and put them under a 600wat bulb to help them flower longer. also they’re too airy right now but i’m hoping time will change that. i’ll keep updates as i progress.

so i ended up harvesting 3 purple unicorns last month. the buds are small and whispy, if you can even call them buds. they are solid dark purple almost black but they look like shit in pictures. i can’t capture the color of them. also, the potency is non-existent. this is not a strain i would ever grow again or breed with for that matter. i have another unopened pack that i’ll probably trade in the future. pretty much a disappointment.

Yeah, the Purple NL2 I ran a while back kinda sucked, too. But Bodhi keeps using that Purple Unicorn male, so there must be something there. I won’t be running any more of those crosses, though.
@corgitron Bodhi’s pretty awesome. Of the 30 or so crosses I’ve run of his, only the Purple NL2 was disappointing. Everything else I’ve grown from him has been pretty dang kick-ass.

Okay. To each his own. I do wonder why exactly Bodhi keeps using that PU male, just because I haven’t really heard too many happy experiences from people who’ve grown crosses of it. But I love everything else I’ve grown of his, so I’ll keep running his stuff. Got some of his Imperial Majesties and one Soar in the tent now, really looking forward to them haha…

Maybe it’s my receptors or something, but I’m partial to PU. And I always get big tight fluffy nuggets from PU mixes. Unicorn Milk for example,

Tree of Life, Mountain Temple and… I dunno. Time Bandit, maybe? No, you know what, that Gold Star f4 was great. So those’d probably be my top-three. Mountain Temple seeds are still around, I just bought two more packs of it a little while ago. Good luck finding those Tree of Life beans or the Gold Star f4’s. Those are long-gone, unfortunately.
Anything crossed with High n Lonesome’s Appalachia male that I’ve grown has been fucking awesome. But I guess Bodhi lost that male or isn’t working with it anymore or something, so…
I was kind of “Eh…” about the Snow Lotus male until I grew four Uplifts a couple rounds ago. That turned out to be some of my favorite weed ever, so now I’m a little more open to those Snow Lotus crosses. But I guess Bodhi lost that male, too haha, soooo…
The GHash male, to me, seems to overwhelm whatever it’s crossed with, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I don’t like it. Flavors will vary, depending on the mom used, but the high always seems the same to me. Classic “hybrid” sorta high, with that “up then down” thing going on. Again, that doesn’t mean I don’t like it; I do. I love it haha. But I’ve yet to grow a cross with the GHash male that didn’t smoke kind of the same. But that’s just me. I know a lot of people have picked up on various subtleties and differences in high-types. I haven’t. Yet.
I’ve only grown two of the Wookie crosses, the Pinball Wizard and the Cherry Trance. The high on both was excellent, but I reeealllyyy didn’t like the flavors. If it was the only weed I had access to, I wouldn’t complain. But yeah, the flavors weren’t my cup of tea. A lot of people would probably dig them, though.
We’re spoiled haha. Nitpicking over,”Naahhhh, I don’t like that male, I’m gonna grow something else,” and seeds selling out ten minutes after they drop and shit… Bodhi’s great. We’re lucky to have him. I do wonder, though, why he keeps using that PU male haha!!!

i regret not buying more appalachia crosses. i only have silver mountain and sunshine daydream. (i think we have had this conversation before). i grew out the sunshine daydream as it’s the only other strain i bought 2 packs of. i wasn’t really impressed by them but will be giving them another try eventually.

People talk about the same things all the time. My girl and my friend Natalie kept saying,”No, we haven’t had this conversation before,” but I was eventually proven right haha…
It’s entirely possible that you and I have had this conversation before; I feel like I have this conversation re: fav Bodhi things all the time. But that’s okay. I’m a fan. Fans talk about the things they’re fans of all the time. Is it a little obsessive? Probably. Who cares? Haha…
You should definitely grab any Appalachia crosses you find. I’ve been doing the same, feel pretty good with where I’m at in that regard haha. That male really does seem to “check all of the boxes” or whatever.
Yeah, I grew some SSDD like five years ago, only ended up with one female. It turned out straight RKS, that shit that everybody’s on the hunt for, but that seems to be an outlier. Still, I remember I got into a friend’s car with some SSDD in my pocket and she was like,”That shit smells like a SKUNK!” before I even mentioned I had a little weed. Probably should’ve taken clones of it haha.
I’ve read that the SSDD is super-hit-or-miss. The good ones are awesome, the bad ones are,”Meh…” I dunno. Either way, it seems like Bodhi puts a lot more thought into the crosses he’s making than most “breeders.” Which, again, makes me wonder why he keeps using that Purple Unicorn male haha!!!

You should grow those out, btw. I grew three a couple years ago and one of them in particular had that total sorta “classic SSH” look. All three of them were good, but that one was just gorgeous. Kinda ratty and “exotic-looking” and just not the usual shit. Probably shoulda taken clones of that one, too haha…

From what I’ve gathered, that PU male is just proven to be fertile and pass on the colors well. From the seed run, I think it was said that the f5 had some sterile males. Not sure how long I’m going to keep the cut I have than to have. I’ve been keeping it with the though of using it for the purple genetics, but it would prob water down what ever it was crossed with.

Well there will probably be the day that ornamental cannabis will be a thing, something like this is perfect for that if smoke quality doesn’t matter. Be an interesting flowerbed of different colored buds and hairs, though it would prob done with fem autos to have a beds in full bloom before fall.

For sure, dude. My Purple NL2 ended up super-purple, almost “eggplant.” At the same time, it wasn’t all crystal-covered like most everything I grow is. So I guess it’s a trade-off? It’s purple, but it still doesn’t look that great haha! It also just wasn’t very potent. I had to blaze like twice as much and I didn’t like the high-type at all. Whatever. It’s fine. Like I said, we’re spoiled. Lots of other options out there…
As much as I ever have a plan, I was actually thinking of maybe crossing the Purple NL2 with Doc’s Bandaid Haze and maybe try to work my own little “Purple Haze.” That was my thinking when I planted the Purple NL2 seeds, anyway. But after growing that cross out, I’m like,”Fuck that.” I really didn’t like it at all haha.
