Just saw your comment. Tcase = transfer case = 4 wheel fun time
Yupā¦I was being factious, you scared me . Good times thoughā¦I like to think of myself as a transmission buffā¦good times!
Power steering stopped leaking, you know what that means? Itās empty! I replaced the line this weekend. While I had the air box off, my buddy noticed a crack in my exhaust header.
He did his best to weld it up. Itās ugly, but it will work as a temporary fix.
Iām sure it made a little noise. How is jeeping this summer?
Not a lot of jeeping this summer, itās been very hot this year. I did pick up a new project car for the kiddo.
Saw one similar on the rode where I am which is an extreme rarity. Thought it was cool as hell as is yours. Would totally rock that!
My son said thatās what you need. Very nice.
We welded the bracket holding the cat on my 91 yj. It had sheered off and they donāt reproduce them anymore. Crazy fucking expensive as well. Got a full exhaust system put in, still stock. Got the new bumper installed in the rear., more tow points and hitch capable now. Light towing. I have a fuel pump system coming, dropping the tank and installing that this weekend possibly. Fixed the wifeās car today, we did a easy brake job, oil change, and we had to replace the knock sensor which was a pain in the ass. Got the wrong one from a shop, then had to drive hour and a half for the part at a dealer. Smh. The 4 banger jeep will be getting a motor swap in the next year. Hopefully sooner than later. The knock sensor was tough because it was under the intake manifold and we had to rip the whole top off to get to it. Damn soy bean wires. Idiots. This time we wrapped it in a sock of steel. Fuk the mice and rats. . Nasty fucks. Also I think the last time we did the fuel pump and dropped the tank we didnāt convert it to a 20 gallon on the jeep. They put a five gallon limiter in them after a certain year and Iām pretty sure mine needs to be fixed up to a 20. Itās been a while since I have drove this yj, as we have been very busy with other projects. But I truly love that jeep. Iām glad things are coming around and itās going to be running again., or atleast starting normally. still runs, just every once in a while you have to beat on the tank with a bat to get the pump going .
Lucky kid. or is it?
Convenient the stinger exhaust blocks the license plate!
My first car was a 71 bug & it set off a pattern of selfā¦ uhā¦ instruction
If you donāt already have one get the Compleat[sic] Idiotās Guide to VW repair by John Muir w/the hand illustration, and the HP books Baja Bugs & Dune Buggies(old but it was like porn to me).
And consider a shared quest to get rid of that original-ish engine & put in something bordering on irresponsible.
Of the many tales I can recount was the owner of a place called Way Out Salvage allegedly made a VW bus into a complete tube-chassis hunting vehicle(no body panels except the pan) & could take like 8 people hunting
Sounds sick man.
My son wants a little dune buggy. I have been looking at a couple of Volkswagens. Iāve always wanted to take a little small S 10 frame four-wheel-drive. And put a bug on top of it. The problem with me is. If that car can go fast. I will definitely let you know. I do not mind putting the pedal to the floor. They have some stuff where I live at. But nothing like it is out in Arizona, New Mexico in Colorado. I seen someplace in Texas. They had two buggies everywhere,
I love me some old cars. Hot rod magazineās were my favorite. I remember the cartoons. The little magazine. Especially vans. I have seen some that are newer. Dodge makes some that I like.
Thatās really cool man.
Herbie goes cannabis.
Thatās a movie Iād watch 100%
very cool baja bugā¦
fun factā¦ I grew up with a dad who used to do up VW bugs to race all the muscle cars on the street when he was in his 20ās. My dad drove a beetle till I was in my early teens and then he picked up a 1964 Notchback and that is the car I learned to drive inā¦ stick of course.
My brother fell in love with the Vwās and owned several bugs but then he also picked up an old notchback and restored it. He used to attent VW shows all up and down the west coast and would host a huge party and sleepover at his house.
No VWās in the family these days but jeepsā¦ The 89 XJ just got a complete front end makeover. I smoked a deer a couple years ago and didnāt think there was much damage but I guess I have been driving with a bent steering dampener, bent track bar and a bent fron drive shaft LOL She handles like a new vehicle now after ironing out some kinksā¦ $4400.00 laterā¦
Next up is a class 3 trailer hitch and I am starting design on front winch bumper and rear spare tire carrier and bumper. Can buy these things but I am a steel fabricator by trade so I am going to make everything here in house.
Got a new lincoln mig welder sitting in the box outside so Iām itchin to get fabricating.
That sounds like some awesome stuff you can do man. I bought the bumper and hitch setup,/winch setup for my yj. But thatās truly sick your going to fab all that. Wicked. Ne pics man?
This is my hunting off road rig. Pollen hit hard this last year. Need to scrub that yj
I miss my YJā¦ I had a 92 renegade with 3" body lift, 4" suspension ā¦ too much too list. I tore her down to the bare frame and did a major restoration on her. Sold her for good money to a friendās kid when something else caught my eye ā¦ which is my 91 1st gen dodge w250 4x4 with the cummins 5.9 diesel. I love my truck but I really miss that YJ LOL
The XJ is just so practical for my lifestyle and easy to work on and upgrade. I kinda get a chuckle everytime one of those new āoffroad modelā ford broncos goes by. Lots of people around here bought those vehicles and paid stupid money for them. They are pretty much the same footprint as the cherokee xj. Itās like ford took over where jeep left off LOL
Maybe itās just me but those broncos just look like a modern XJ built by a different company. At least those aren;t built by fiat. With the XJā¦ if I spend 20 grand making it pretty much brand new with upgraded engine , driveline and differentialsā¦ Iām further ahead that the guy who bought his offroad edition bronco for 85grand HAHA!
SO JEALOUS Those werenāt sold in the US so theyāre pretty rare in any condition.
Old air-cooled VWs & modernized(subaruād ) Vanagon/Westfalias are EXPENSIVE!
ya the notchbacks were very collectable. My brother actually owned a couple and restored one. It was a gorgeous car with some modern flare. He sold it for 23,000 canadian. Thatās gotta be 20 years ago now. More recently he did a full strip down of another notchback that needed body repair. Another notchback of the same year was salvaged to cut the body sections that were then tig welded in. He built a great big internal cage and exoskeleton welded to the body in order to keep everything in itās proper place during the process. The rolling pan was stunning when it was done, as was the motor and everything else. When it was done it was literally like new , showroom condtion. He sold that one maybe 5 years ago and is still kicking himself as it was a good decade long project finding new OEM stuff and salvaging from donor cars and ebay adds.
None of us own VWās at the moment but if I see one of those baja conversions around for a decent price I would probably jump on it hehe
