Return to growing after almost 20 years..

yah producing humidity is what the plants do with transpiration. You can lower it with an extraction fan by 10%, but a dehumidifier definitely can extract the moisture as fast as the plants produce it. Whenever I set up someone’s grow, I include that as an essential part.

Update and comments

First time growing in a garage and i can say you never know it all… always something to learn.

Humidity plain and simple has been a bitch. I have taken care of the pm problem. I had to go and get a dehumidifier I chose one that has a pump and can push water 16ft vert up. It is working over time for sure. I have the water being pumped into a large cooler at the moment. The pic is after 36 hours of running. That is a lot of moisture. What I noticed is that it has a blueish color to it. This leads me to my next point. Octopots… yes they are awesome… yes I will use them and nothing else. That blue tint looks like nute water to me… one thing you need to consider is that you have a lot of water sitting in the bottom of these things and they do produce humidity. You need to consider this when you are choosing to go with them or not. Even with this medium range de-humidifier it is struggling to keep up because of the amount of humidity. I find that when the garage heats up around 11:00am the moisture in the air dries up and higher temps bring the rhumidity down. I have started opening up one side of the tent during the day to help with the humidity problem. Hopefully in the next few weeks it will chill the F out! All is looking much better in the tent for sure.

Wow man. That is a lot of water for 36 hours! I’m struggling badly with it also and I’m indoors rather than in a garage. We’ve been in the 80 percentile RH outdoors recently and that leaves me with 70-80% in the tent. I’ve got fans working overtime blowing on the plants trying to prevent PM, but I’m afraid this is going to turn into a problem. Been avoiding a dehumidifier, but it may be the only way. Going to be doing some regular defol until I break down and take the plunge.

Yeah I agree with you that is a lot for 36hours but shows the hidden problem you just can’t see until you get the pm. That stuff spreads fast and i bet i cut off 50 leaves in 2 days. You really need one for indoor growing too because think about it all that water is going into your walls etc… I was just trying to sneak by thinking the garage temps would be so high moisture would evaporate before getting to the tent… Didn’t think about the octopots in the equation.

hey the high humidity will result in the growth of botrytis pathogen, but, just like the powdery mildew you have to be exposed first. Powdery mildew only requires the host plant to be there in order for it to survive, and it does even better in dry conditions. High humidity isn’t good for the plants because their whole life cycle involves transpiring water in order to create osmosis pressure. With extreme humidity the plants transpiration slows down.
The dehumidifier water should be coming out at EC 0 because it’s like distilled water. I get dust in my dehumidifier that are like brown blobs.

Good info thank you! @JoeCrowe

4 weeks Flowering

Everything is looking good. Environment is finally under control. Still following my motto of “Less is more” with using the TPS One nute. I am using it to VEG and Bloom. I am currently using about 8ml of the solution in the 1 gallon of water once a week in the octopots. I will probably stop around week 7 with nutes all together but the plants should tell me when to do it. Starting to smell

Week 5 Flowering…

Things look pretty good. Still growing hair! We have a ways to go though… With this being the first time growing with octopots and me with my “Less is more” stance I have seen the leaves at the bottom of the plants turning yellow. This is not new to me and the plants are telling me to feed them more. This is one reason though why I do not trim the bottom of my plants early on. They are there to feed the plant when a grower takes the stance “Less is more” . With that being said though I did up the amount of TPS 1 nutes in the last week and have new green growth up top so we are good… …i think

Yellow leaves…

Hey what ever happen to the tops of those plants way back when??? They went to a friends house… Doing just fine.

Week 6 of flowering

Well it has been a challenge for sure with the first grow after 20 years.

This is the first time I have grown in octopots. My less is more with nutes I feel had a negative impact on this grow. I should have followed the directions on the TPS 1 instructions and fed them as directed. I think the yield will be off some because of this. I think I screwed the pooch on this… It is almost a little too late to worry about nutes at this point but I went back to following the directions. The buds on the GG are still throwing pistils so this is a good sign it is not locked up. This week will be the last week for nutes as I will be flushing the last two weeks. I don’t think the gorilla glue is gonna go 9-10 weeks. Which brings me to the next point.

I have some purple stems on the gorilla glue along with yellow leaves down low which is a sign of nute deficiency. . The purple steams can also be too much light. I have 3 - 5x4 LEDS in a 5x5 tent. I think the lights might have also been a little bright. I might roll back to just two 4x5 lights in 5x5**. Anyone have thoughts on this?** It could also be the strain. I have never grown GG before and I know they can have some purple steams but I think I have a nute issue here among other things.

The environment (garage) has been a challenge for sure. Big Temp and Humidity changes have plagued this grow. In the past I mostly grew in basement or under a house. I did not have huge temp flux like I have with this grow. One thing I did was to start opening the garage door to the house since the garage is insulated expect for the door and cool the environment down that way. The ac unit in the tent just cant keep up when the temps are 95+ degrees outside. Currently the temp is 71.f in tent w/ 39% humidity. Should have done this two weeks ago. I am considering getting a AC unit for the garage and pre-cool the air down before it gets in the tent. Thoughts on this?

Harvest will probably be middle of October… Yield is going to be effected though.

Not saying you don’t have deficiencies but some purple in the stems on the GG4 is fairly normal. At least in the version I’ve been growing. Especially on the stems of the fan leaves.

Thanks for the feedback! I got them on my wedding cake too just not as bad.

I’ve also just started using Octopots too.

@Floyd Is it true that GG looks like it slows down like week 5-6 and then the last 2 weeks it hail mary’s and bulks up?

It does seem like they slow but they really bulk up. I have been chopping mine between 60 and 65 days. I found they would really get solid and heavy in the last couple weeks. My last harvest I got just over a LB of buds from four plants.
