“Easter eggers” or “Ameraucana” are what you want for a backyard chicken… They lay green or blue eggs :wink:

I’ve enjoyed this breed but they are a bit too timid for my preference. For entertaining the kid I’d suggest Bantam Silkies. They’re VERY pet-like, adorable, make smaller shits/eggs/feed-bills.

Cochin is another fun one for “personality”.

We had Polish crested bantams at one time, crazy roosters lol, el poyo loco, and we had arcana crosses that laid blue/green eggs, my late wife really enjoyed raising poultry.
