Strain genetics of the 80's and early 90's....

First off, I LOVE all the discussion on the content of the original theme of the topic!

Admittedly a few comments really caught my attention.

Stick with me on this… let me know it it makes any sense.

Galileo made the telescope an indispensable tool. Hopefully none of us rely on his discoveries alone to understand the universe. Hundreds of years later we got the Hubble telescope, this telescope rocked the world and still does. Today we have the new James Webb Telescope, crazy, but even better. The point being is that its the same damn sky! Exactly the same sky, we see it better now!

Personally I want to blow away the myth of 12.5 THC of the 80’s and 90’s weed. Obviously I can’t prove it. I want to also blow away the myth of master breeders of modern day.

My contention is that Galileo was one of the 1’st to observes our solar system through a telescope.

Honestly, we’re light years from Galileo’s telescope. Nonetheless , it was the beginning of something that’s endless.

Hell, we have a damn Hubble telescope, and even better we no have the James Webb!

These telescopes have changed everything we know about the cosmos.

How does this apply to weed?

You must be crazy to ask…however, I’ll start by saying a basic truth.

There’s lots to explore!

Cheers…and amazing!

my point is that we don’t know what we don’t know!

We do know that the genetics of the past are killer and foundational.

There are incredible breeders out there…some mentioned in this post, however, they’re Galileo and not James Webb, both looking at the same sky!

It’s all words! Shout out to the silent warrior!

By the way…I can’t believe the interest in this topic!

My words are just that, words. Provoke thought, its amazing!

Sidenote: I love this!

The haze’s I feel has been looked through pretty good too, I concur, I’m starting a project where I’m getting some landraces and I’m going to start working them and my plan is to have my own staple of genetics the stuff from back in the day should be there but it’s the other more interesting things I’m after  I’m hoping that when the time comes I have a little cash for testing might get lucky and find something narly like super trippy I pretty excited about it, do you by any chance know about kalamata red? I probably need to start a thread but I was gonna wait till till I got my beans

Sounds like an awesome quest!
Yes ive tried Kalamata red. Its by hear say related to Lebanese hashplants, but some believe that they have other origins aswell. Lebanese hash was notorious in Europa, but they are not growing the same strains as they use to in lebanon any more. Its probably dutch strains crossed to the old ones and more indica leaning then it was 15-20 years ago. They went through the same transformation as Marocco did. Going from sativa leaning to indica/cbd leaning plants.

I bought the seeds from RSC and they where ok, nothing special really. Easy to grow but not the greatest yielder. RSC describe that that they are “trippy” and they are not. Its a normal sativa high at best. If you expect something to be super trippy, youll be really disappointed. Grew 2 packs of them and ended with me culling all clones.

From my experience, nothing beats Malawi. Super racey, heart jumping out your chest, extremly strong head high thats almost disorientating and a trippy experience like mild dose shrooms. In my group of friends, im the only one who likes it. My gf are very thc resistant and smokes only c99 or haze crosses. She flip every time from Malawi. If you want super trippy weed, i recommendations is to get hold of a breeders pack of this strain.

Another one ive tried is Swazi Gold, its not as trippy but got the same racey, heart pounding effect as Malawi does. I could easly see this strain with the right crosses and selections to turn into something very trippy.

C99/neville haze this is a cross i got from a dude at icmag ive traded with over the years. It was very cerebral and ceilingless with a super introspective high that took your mind to places. My vision always got filled with dancing small colored dots. It was very fast(12 weeks) for a sativa this strong.

Tried all the thais ive got my hand on and I couldnt get something worth while out of them. Herms, wispy buds or not that strong. I believe that thais and dead atm, maybe some old timer hold good seeds, but yet i havent seen any company got anything that looks like the old thai sticks.

Bangi haze is another one worth while looking at. This strain doesnt have any trippy high or insane thc. But its a great base to build from since have a clean sativa high with a strong cerebral effect, on par with the hazes ive tried but only a 10 weeks strain.

Ive tried alot of sativas and they are all fantastic in they own way. But these are ones that stood out for me. Im in love with sativas and those had that extra oumph. Its just just my suggestions.

Pz my growmie :v:t2:

What are the chances the wild types are older than the landraces? Or are they just undemesticated? Sorry if it’s a little off topic

Sounds amazing the Malawi! Where did you purchase a breeders pack of this strain @LonelyOC ? I’d like to try it for sure.

This lebanese x Pakistani Picture gives me Vibes.

Something interesting? Outcross close related Landraces.

If you however want to further outcross, its still interesting to outcross say: Lebanese x Pakistani, x Chinese Indica.
And in another project outcross Thai x other similar things you get it? Thai x Bangladesh x Sumatra…

So you build closer relatet Outcrosses… You build like isles instead of far Bridges.
But you can build far Bridges too. But i beleive there is power in this Isle method

(you can also cross Lines geographically far related, but all are Sativas Thai x Columbian x African ).
Its just a nice way to explore all combinations possible, WHY? because,… I mean if you go fullon Thai x deppest Afghani… Its like you make a movie with, a love Scene and an intese Action movie?
You can do that, but wouldnt it be wiser to first attemt and aproximate with some main directions, say action, just action and everything that “surrounds it”., instead of…

instead of deciding in the action movie there must be also a beautiful young love scene with Romeo and Julia who will strand in Hawii and discover a hidden World in the deepest Jungle… lol wher the parrots and the butterflyes meet. lol

I didnt buy the breeders pack, but ive eyed it for a long time. Hmmm, that the breeders pack are apparently sold out by now. I got my Malawi mother from 5 reg packs from Aces website that i grew. Shes dead now, got taken in a raid against one of my locations :sob:

@leetdood Thank you :v:t2:

@drgreensleeves wild types might be older then landraces, there isnt a simple way of knowing. Some breeders say that they god wild types or landraces. But its actual a cross with Skunk or something to produce more modern buds. Watch out of that If you want to only work with very pure and wide genetics.

If you want landrace afghans i would recommend Afghan Selection. They buy seeds directly from farmer in Afghanistan, no middle man grow, with these type of seeds you have to pinch the seeds to get em to germ.

Galileo vs. the James Webb telescope… This can go so many places, seems like the title to a movie about…you guessed it cannabis.

:four_leaf_clover::four_leaf_clover::four_leaf_clover:

Forgive my lack of knowledge, but is it not worthwhile crossing hybrids with landraces? Does it lead to deadends or too much randomisation or something?

The dogons had knowledge of not only the stars and constellations way before Galileo or ever the advent of any known telescope, they also knew about cannibus.

Not contradicting the metaphor. Just putting that out there
