Tents full of happiness and love ft. Bodhi and friends

Ooh very nice!

What kinda smells are coming from the Purple Wookie v2? That’s an RKU cross right? I have the magenta hp v2 that I thought was a purple unicorn cross but is actually a RKU cross instead and just been wondering.

Yes indeed, day 43 for the BT’s as well. The clones seem to be moving a little faster than they did from seed. I think there’s definite potential for it to be one of Bodhi’s best releases for sure. I’ll be happy to send you some of my BT F2’s whenever you’re ready too, I know you have a few from other folks. I just shucked and popped some that were still in the buds to test the germs rates and all of them popped tails. I like your idea of popping F2’s from a couple of different sources and making F3’s… hopefully I’ll get to that one day!

Mine is smelling of lavender and grapefruit, with new shoe smell on the back, kinda like DMT. Very loud smelling, but no RKS or anything acrid.

I would most likely do 1 gallon pots of coco in an ebb and flow tray just to make things super easy. Do 12/12 from seed to keep em small purely for sexing and sampling.

Lets say you do run 100 seeds and assuming 50/50 male to female ration. Thats going to be 50 females you are going to have to smoke and judge in a fairly short amount of time. The things we do for science lol.

This is probably the biggest challenge. I am very interested in learning how to do tissue culture as a solution for this very problem. Small plant cuttings that can be kept almost in stasis for as long as you need for making selections. 100 clones even bonsai would probably require a 4x8 minimum but 100 tissue culture samples fits on a self in a refrigerator.

Hey man. I agree TC is the wave of the future. It’s a tricky process though. I’ve dabbled with it for a couple of years, and I’ve yet to produce a rooted plantlet. I gotten shoots may times, but have never been able to grow roots.

If you’re interested, I put together a document dump on Tissue Culture. There are 3 zip files, TCInfo is about general tissue culture procedures with a focus on the Casnnabis plant. LabInfo is about setting up a cheap TC lab, and General Lab is just that, how to wash glassware, that kind of stuff.

There’s a lot of data in there, and some of it is heavy science, but there’s some really interesting stuff in there.

Good luck man.

This sounds like the way to go. I’ve been interested in TC too, as I have some experience with fungi cultivation and feel some of the same principles apply to both. Have you looked into startup cost of constructing and small lab and the materials? I’ve heard getting the hormone ratio’s in the agar solution can be tricky?

Hey @Guitarzan thanks for dropping the links! I’ll be sure to go through those, even if I don’t take the plunge, I’d still like to know more about the overall process. I agree that TC is the future, hell TC is now… pretty sure they propagate all kinds of orchids that way now. Hopefully someone smart will come up with a small TC kit geared towards cannabis and hobby growers

The sample part is my problem with just going 12/12 from seed, can you clone a plant that is grown that way or is like an auto where it’ll kill your production… but again if it’s just to sexing and sample, just flip as soon as it grows big enough to take a cutting and get it to root. If I find a good plant, I’d want to have a clone of it to use as a mother.

I think @SCJedi is the resident expert on TC. Maybe he’ll chime in?

It’s a pain to keep a bunch of clones. I just trashed all my males because I have enough F2 of everything (and not enough space) that I’m unconcerned about keeping them around. I’m also trying to whittle the keepers list down and be a little pickier about what I keep. Trying to go from 25 clones to 2 or 3. For now, solo cups + heavy pruning can keep them for a couple months, not happy but alive. Long enough to re-run and pick keepers.

The big problem from my perspective is, if it’s just personal and not production, you have to take clones of EVERYTHING before flip because you can’t reveg everything and you can’t pick winners until everything’s dried + cured for at least a couple weeks. Looks are pretty meaningless unless you’re trying to sell.

There are a couple of folks that make kits that ARE NOT Bill’s Micrclone kits. I can connect you. I’m also about to start teaching classes. I have thought about doing something virtually but live body classes are obviously ideal. Where are you located?

You’re right. I forgot to put “for cannabis propagation”, after "wave of the future. :grinning: It’s been around for many, many years, and Orchids were one of the big reasons it’s become so widespread.

Yes! This is truly the hard part. Especially if your clone game is not on point, then you’re worried about clone failures and taking multiples of each plant. It can get overwhelming quick, especially without the space!

I’ve got to do some maintenance on my moms and thin the collection. Time to take clones and go to go back to solo cups for all of them, they are in half gallon pots now and pretty much have to hack away every two weeks to keep them under control. I may start trying to bottom water as well, or SIPs…

Thank you for the info. You should definitely do the classes! I’m on the east coast, in prohibition-land. But, I would consider traveling to learn too, hands-on experience is invaluable!

Surprising that it has been around so long and is just now being considered for cannabis, but that’s what happens when we decide to outlaw a fucking plant… :upside_down_face:

Probably will depend on the variety, some varieties can definitely clone pretty far along in flower. You would probably have to try and clone one of the lowers so it doesn’t stunt the plant too much and your not left with much to sample!

Yea… I’m taking the save everything till the smoke report rout, and now thinking about making seeds, saving select males…

It’s the way its been done for a long time, and if you have the room to keep all the clones, go for it! I really like the idea of everyone building up their own little cupboards of their selections and being able to meet up for a swap meet one day!

The SSDD tent is filling nicely. I had some Ph issues as I was using Pure Blend Pro for these girls in veg and it was dropping my ph to around 5.0. I switched back to Canna A+B the past week and corrected the issues and the new growth is looking good. Thankfully once I add Canna nutes to my tap, the PH comes out right around 6.2-6.3 so I rarely have to check it anymore. Sometimes I will drop it lower, but everything seems happy swinging around 6.0-6.3.

Still tucking and pruning some lower shoots as needed. Topped a few shoots that were over-achieving. I flipped this tent to flower on 12.11. I may add a second support screen, but don’t except much stretch from the ladies.

I figure I’m going to have to have a separate tent just for all my mothers and clones, the 2in1 tent I got has shelves and room for some, but not the collection I’m thinking plus have space for the clones/seedlings to veg

Haha, yup, and so it begins… before you know it you’ll need another tent for drying, or maybe breeding projects… then you’ll start dreaming about having whole rooms :see_no_evil:

Yea, already planned on a male/pollination tent… drying tent was thought of too, to control the odor more than anything. A room full of tents is prob what I’ll end up with, so I can have multiple blooms too.

Big Tent Update! Day 50 of flowering. We got flopage! The Black Triangles buds are just too dense and heavy for their stems. BT pheno 3 has better support, but still getting some flop. Going to run tomato cages the next time I run them. Purple Wookie v2 still smelling really good. The Atonic x Apollo crosses are not that impressive looking(except the one dead center), but we’ll see how they smoke. Mostly lemony musty smells coming from them. The nose on the Goji X BT is pretty weak. Getting faint whiffs of the same terps from the Goji OG #4 mom, but muted. Can’t win them all…
