Tents full of happiness and love ft. Bodhi and friends

Not growing fuckin’ sucks!

Haha, feel like I like growing more than I like smoking, funny how that happens… thankfully OG has kept me somewhat sane, at least I get to peep everyone else’s grows.

I finally secured a place in Portland… the rental and housing market is crazy right now and I suggest no one in their right mind try to move.

But peace out NC, I’ll miss your mountains and beaches… Hello, OR, diggin’ the vibe there from my short visit.

Hoping to get set back up by the end of August or September :crossed_fingers: At least I’ll miss the summer heat!

I think I’m the same way. I’ve often had that discussion in my head: if you had to choose between being able to grow but never smoking again, or being able to smoke and never growing again, which would it be? I’m pretty sure I’d choose being able to grow. I like smoking, too, it just depends on the strains I grew during a particular grow. I definitely like some of them more than others.

Anyway, yeah, I was wondering if you’d gotten to Portland yet. Thought about you last week, when it was like 117 degrees up there. Were you there for that? My first summer living there, it got up in the high 90’s for a couple days, but that’s the hottest I ever saw it in the three or four years I lived there. 117 is just fucking nuts.

What area of town did you end up finding a place? I think I lived in every quadrant or whatever they’re called, NE, NW, SE and SW. I had a great place at 37th and Hawthorne (I think that’s where it was) the first year I lived there. Then I just kinda couch-surfed for like three years haha.

Oregon’s got mountains and beaches, too. Unless ANTIFA (gasp! ANTIFA!) burned them all down hahaha!!!

Dammn, that is a hard one! I really think I could give up smoking and just do the growing side of things… I say that… but damn is it hard to stop smoking if it’s there! I’d have to actually be put in the situation to decide I guess…

Yeah, we haven’t left for Portland yet, still have about a month to get everything moved. Crazy that they were going through such a heatwave there, especially with so many people not having AC, 117 degrees is just F’n crazy! Luckily we found a place with central AC  We missed the heatwave thankfully when we were out there, it was nice and cool, and I had a great time popping around the city. I found a cool little spot in SE Portland, but not like we had much choice, rental houses would literally be on the market for one day, so you have to kinda take what is offered. But the house does have a nice big basement for activities :sunglasses:

lol, last I heard ANTIFA burned down the whole state… I don’t even think Portland exist anymore :upside_down_face:

No, but seriously, I can’t wait to get out there!

Yeah, when that heat wave was going on, I tried to remember if I ever even lived somewhere that had AC. I know my first house didn’t. I think the last place I lived, which was like NW 26th, had it. But there was never any reason to run it. Kinda like LA, really. In the 20 years I’ve lived here, I never lived in a place that had AC until I moved out to the Valley seven years ago. Super-glad we have it here, though haha. 117 might be weird for Portland, but it’s not uncommon for temps to get that high in the Valley in August/September. It was 118 for a few days in a row last September. And 95 to 105 is pretty much the norm out here starting late June.

Haha, yeah, I think I heard that, too. Didn’t wanna mention it, but I really was thinking,”Why are they even moving there??? It’s just a burnt-up hellhole…” haha!

Sweet! Can’t go wrong with basements. I don’t think heat is ever an issue in those. Cold, maybe. And humidity almost definitely, especially in Portland. Still, I’d much rather have to deal with drying my area out than having to cool it off by running central AC for hours on end. Buy a couple more fans and a de-humidifier or two and call it a day.

For sure, even if I don’t have to use it but for a few weeks a year or whatever, I’m definitely thankful to even have one. I’ve got a portable AC and all that, but it seems inefficient when you’re trying to cool a larger space. Maybe a grow tent, but not a living room. Crazy that the climate has changed so much that there’s people literally dying of heat in places they never have before…

Yeah, I’m glad we found a place with a basement. It’s got a garage too, but screw trying to deal with the heat in a garage. Much easier to use the natural coolness of the basement. I’ve got a dehuey already, but may need to upgrade depending on the space. I’ve got so many damn fans that my girl is making me throw some out, it’s actually silly the amount of fans I’ve gone through… maybe I should start buying some decent ones. I think I’m only gonna bring my AC Infinity S6 and T4 or whatever and start from there. Probably gonna start small at first anyways and test the waters…

Hey friends… it’s been awhile. I’ve been busy getting setup again here on the west coast. I’m enjoying my new space, but setting up again always comes with some challenges. I gotta change some outlets out, and hopefully I have enough power to do what I want. My basement setup is nice and cool though, and I have a couple of windows down here to vent if needed. Another bonus is that I work about 15ft from the grow setup, so I’m nearby all day (for better or worse)!

Here’s a sneak peak at some stuff I’m up to:

Mixed up a batch of organic soil to cook for a couple of weeks. The mix I’m using, just for my own future reference, is:
15 gallons ProMix HP
10 gallons volcanic pumice (large and medium grain mixed 1:3)
3 gallons Oly Mountain Fish Compost
2 gallons Earthworm castings
1 KIS Organics nutrient pack, containing:

KIS Organics Microbe Catalyst, Organic Alfalfa Meal, Organic Fish Bone Meal, Organic Crustacean Meal, Organic Kelp Meal, Organic Fish Meal, Glacial Rock Dust, Basalt, Soft Rock Phosphate, Oyster Shell Flour, Neem Cake and Karanja Cake, Gypsum, Natural Calcite, Mycorrhiza, and Beneficial Microbes

Yeah I kinda cheated, and realized I could source all this stuff locally, for cheap as hell too, but realized this after I ordered the nutrient pack, as I was excited to get going. Anyways, the nutrient pack seems to be doing the trick, the soil pile is pretty warm if you stick your fingers down in it, some microbe action is definitely going on. There’s a place here locally (Concentrates, Inc), where I ended up getting the pumice, that has a bunch of the above amendments, that you can buy by weight, so you don’t end up with a 50 lbs bag of bone meal that you’ll never go through :+1:

I’ve been interested in trying SIPs for a while, so I went out and grabbed two City Pickers to see how they treat me. My plan is to pack the bottom corners with pure Promix and maybe a bottom layer of Promix on the grate and then dump my soil mix on top of that. The manual does NOT recommend using organic compost, but after watching Jeremy at BAS pull it off, I’m pretty confident I’ll get some good results. Maybe not the best results, as it’s my first run back to water only/living soil, but I’m pretty sure it’ll work. I got the 4 x 4 all setup… just need some plants to go in it.

Problem solved!

Nice that you can just run to the store and grab some clones to get you going, not what I’m used to! I’m not the biggest clone fan, but I’ve always wanted to grow GG#4, so I picked that up, along with some of CSI’s work, a cut of T-1000 (Purple Urkle x TK) from Archive. Just needed something to get me jump started

and just to keep some Bodhi in my life, I popped 10 Tranquil Elephantizer Remix F2s … so far 10/10 germ rate… woohoo! Planning on setting up the 3 x 3 to do some pheno hunts and baby makin’ for the Bodhi gear…

Glad to be growin again and back on OG, hope everyone’s grows are going great!

Welcome back man! Looks like you got a nice plan and a solid situation. Good to ease into water only with a premade mix, and SIPs couldn’t be easier once you learn the watering.

How are you liking the best coast so far?

Thanks man! I’m pumped about how easy the SIPs seem. I’m thinking I may ease into the bottom watering part, I don’t want to drown the young clones. The mix I made seems to retain a bit of water too, so just want to be careful.

Haha, the best coast is pretty awesome. I feel more at ease here so far. People are friendly, and it is super dog friendly here. I unfortunately had to put our pup down right before we left the east coast, so still dealing with that loss. But it’s nice to be able to interact with everyone else dogs here. The shift in the way cannabis is viewed is obviously awesome. I saw a sign for $40 ounces a few days ago and just had to laugh. Not that I would smoke a $40 ounce, but it’s funny how cheap it is. There’s a shop on every corner too… I don’t see how they all maintain their business or make any money. There’s good herb, but most is trash in the shops. Even the top-notch stuff could be grown by you or I, or probably most on OG with the right equipment, genetics, time, space, etc.

But yeah, I dig the vibe much more out here than the SE. Can’t wait to get out and do some hiking, which is one of the reason for the SIPs… so I can get away for a few days

So glad to see you made it safe and sound. Sorry about the loss of your dog.
I can’t wait to see those F2 in action :green_heart:

Wait, you mean Portland hasn’t been overtaken by the Proud Boys and ANTIFA? I thought they were both running the show there, simultaneously, and the whole city was on fire or something… haha!

Anyway, good to hear you got your grow going on. The West Coast really does kick ass, glad you’re out here.

Why is that? I really don’t know anything about SIPs, but I’m at a loss for why compost wouldn’t be recommended in really any sort of growing container.

Sorry to hear that. We had to put Siouxsie down last week and it sucked worse than maybe anything I’ve had to do, ever.

Thanks guys, always tough saying good bye to your best friend. Glad that he didn’t suffer too much and very thankful to have shared so much time with him.

Man, that sucks, I’m sorry for your loss. It’s brutal emotionally on you so make sure you guys take some time and heal and celebrate their life. It was was definitely one of the tougher things I’ve gone through more recently. I’ll keep you guys in my positive thoughts…

Haha  That’s definitely what the news wants you to think, but most things are pretty tame here. I’ve just been down here in my basement, growin’ away… trying to avoid all that shit

I believe it’s because the compost will go anaerobic if it becomes too water logged. I’ve added plenty of aeration to my mix, so I’m hoping it won’t be an issue. Also, I’m planning on tossing a few worms in there once my bin is going again so hopefully they’ll help. The plan is to go no-till/low-till with these boxes, so I hope it works out.

I’m stoked! I have wanted to grow these TER out for awhile now, glad I got 10/10 to pop. Get ready for the show!

Well, it’s taken me a minute to get my wheels turnin’ again, I kinda feel like a newb all over again. I guess I’m in a perpetual state of learning :hushed:

I kept my original clones from Archive as moms and took clones from them. I couldn’t get those clones to root in the bubble/aero cloner- the stems were turning to mush. However, I could see some root nubs further up the stems, so I threw them in some rockwool cubes. They seemed to perk up some and are looking ok, and I expect to see some roots poking out any day. Not that I’m really in a rush, I’m kinda just letting the earth boxes do their thing for awhile.

The mother plants from the original clones got kinda burnt up when I started using PBP and I didn’t ph first, but they’re doing better now. I transplanted them into some Promix with some Osmocote thrown in so hopefully they’ll be low maintenance, water only for awhile. We’ll see how they do… only a test.

On the Tranquil Elephantizer Remix F2 (TERF2) I got all 10 to germ, which was good. But then one stalled out the next day and damped off :frowning: The other four have been stuck like this for about two weeks…

However the other five are chugging along.

They recently got transplanted into grow bags with 50/50 mix coco and promix. So far only water given to them. They’ll probably go in the 3x3 sooner than later. Gonna keep 'em small and just hunt and try to run through some seeds ASAP.

Growing out a little cover crop which I’ll mulch in here shortly and cover over with the black covers included with the City Pickers. Then throw in the clones and let them fly. Trying to create a mulch layer on top of the boxes and start building the soil. I’m getting prepared for the incoming gnats in … three… two…

What’re those four TE Remix that aren’t growing in? That soil mix you, uh, mixed a while back? Or that coco/promix? I’ve found that a lot of times, in the soil mix I use, my seedlings’ll need a little compost tea shortly after sprouting to kick them into gear. Either that or I’ll water with some OG Biowar Nute pack just a few days after they’ve broken dirt. Usually I’ll do both, actually.

Gnatrol, dude! nube turned me on to that last year and it’s the shit.

They were in a light seed starting mix, mostly peat I and perlite, I think. I started some other seeds in the seed starting mix just to test it out to see if it’s maybe the mix or seeds. We’ll see.

I need to get my brewer setup again, I’m not really big tea guy, but I think you’re right, in that it really kicks off the bioactivity.

The Gnatrol is on the way

Is that a finnhomy tent I spy? :male_detective:

close, probably made by the same manufacturer as finnhomy… there’s probably like three companies in china that make all these tents, haha. Both of mine are Apollo brand. Thinking about getting and AC Infinity tent though.

Yeah, especially if the mix they’re in is mostly just peat and perlite, I’d hit it with some kind of innoculant. Just FYI, I sprout my seeds directly in the soil mix I use all the way through from veg to flower (Coot’s), never had an issue. I’m sure you could use that soil you just mixed up for sprouting in.

Fuggin gnats…

They’re more of an annoyance than anything else. But I do thinking they’re messing with my seedlings and young plants. Some problems with germination and seedlings dying still. I’m testing out different mixes and seeds, in different environments, just to really get my germination down before attempting more valuable seeds. I’ve put down a heavy dose of BTi bits and soaked the tops of the beds with it, and the sticky traps… that’s what they look like after about three days. Hopefully the gnatrol will start to break the cycle of reproduction here and I’ll get their numbers down. Bleh…

Picked up two more smaller City Pickers, since they’re only $20 each at lowes. I’m probably crazy to do all four in the 4x4 but gonna try it with clones and only keeping the tops really.

Ended up picking up the Blueberry clone from Archive and also their Rude Boi OG 7, to go with the other’s in the 4x4. Blueberry has the crinkle leaves that I’ve heard of DJ’s genetics having…

Archive has quality clones, definitely healthy and good form. They still went into quarantine and got and IPM spray right off the bat.

The TER F2s are in the 3x3 under a 315w CMH. They’re looking good, moving along, slowy but surely. No signs of sex yet. They’ve stayed pretty squat, some have some fat leaves. They’re just starting to get a little bit of food. Maybe two more weeks and flip? We’ll see…

Oh yeah, picked up this 3d printed fan mount on ebay, pretty cool!

Oopphh…. That’s a shitload of gnats. Gnatrol once every eight days, three doses maybe, with the suggested “heavy dose.” That should take care of them.

Looking forward to seeing how that turns out. Blueberry… Legit Blueberry… Gotta love that.

Looking good, anyway. Those Archive clones really do look nice and healthy.

The TER f2 really hit their stride this weekend and are growing pretty fast. I’ll probably let them veg one more week and then flip this coming weekend. Growth is pretty uniform on all. Slight odor on two plants stem rub, but nothing strong yet. Let’s hope I get some boys and girls…
