Thanks for checking out the thread
Who here thinks I look like that guy ?
Haha anyway so, today I wanted to update about HASH!
My first washing experience was all about the squish. I experimented with making bubble hash rosin and I still have a lot to learn and experience with that because hash rosin is pretty novel to me. My second wash was dedicated to making bubble hash. I did not press my resin this time with my rosin press but instead decided to follow some Frenchy Cannoli old school hash methods by applying heat and pressure with a bottle filled with hot water. Making hash was super nostalgic for me and I had a lot of fun doing it.
My very first experience getting high was with hash! I was 14 yrs old and my buddy told me about these things called bottle tokes. We used to roll the hash up into little balls and dab them onto the ends of cigarettes, stick the burning ember into a bottle with a hole cut on the side to capture the smoke then suck that smoke back like a champ. I’m sure most of you know what bottle tokes are but it’s a bit of an old school method and maybe some of you reading this have never heard of it.
Getting back to it, I remembered that I had found a reserve of old Weed World Magazine articles that Frenchy made awhile ago. I opened them up and found this gem of an article about pressing, curing and aging hash and wanted to try it out:
Here’s the PDF if you want to download and keep it for yourself:

Here’s my bubble, fresh from the freezer. I sieved this into a pizza box lined with parchment paper (just the regular parchment paper from costco), closed the box and kept this in the freezer for about two weeks.
Trying the turkey bag method did not go very well for me. The bag slipped a lot while pressing and after I stuck it in the fridge for a bit a lot of hash stuck to the insides and started breaking up the bag while I was trying to peel it off… nightmare.
I do not recommend the turkey bag method!
I found that a much more efficient method was to use the parchment paper that I use in my rosin press. This one is much better suited to sticky surfaces and made pressing the hash a breeze. I also had my sous vide machine keeping a water bath going at 200F on the side. I would place my bottle in the bath to heat it up in between pressings. This made the process MUCH faster and way more efficient than having to boil a litre of water every 20-30 mins or so!
I’m wasn’t expecting blonde hash here or even light brown. The buds that I washed were a combination of lowers, mids, fresh frozen and even trim bin buds that had been dried and cured.
Here’s the 25-44u resin:
Here is the 45-159u resin:
Here’s a side by side. The large ball is the 25-44u. You can see a slight variation in the colour:
I let the temple balls to dry for about 4-6 hrs, I found this process to be very important. It allows the outer surface to dry and seal the hash, creating a shiny hard coating on the outside. After that though, I flattened the hash into pancakes and vacuum sealed everything. I’m not convinced this is the best way to package these temple balls. Frenchy writes about opening the container to allow for oxidization in his article… I may have to reconsider the vacuum seal.
How do you all do it? I’d be interested in hearing your methods.
I’ve seen a video where Frenchy wraps it in the cellophane stuff and it looks kind of like a candy apple or something. Ideally I would like to keep this in a wine fridge but I’ve been saving my pennies for one and can’t quite afford it yet. I found a sweet spot in one of my basement drawers under my utility sink where it’s up against an outer wall to my house. In the winter it’s a frosty 16-19C (roughly 65F) during winter so that will have to do as a storage spot until I get something better.
All told I got over 50 grams of nice bubble hash to contend with! Seeing the results, I am completely satisfied with this! Last year I threw a giant tupperware container full of over dried trim bin buds that I found on the back of the grow room shelf. Making hash with this stuff is helping me to preserve and utilize the plant in better ways. Mind you I haven’t smoked any yet but I’m sure it will be more than up to par. My plan is to let some of it age and some of it I’ll dig into right away.
Moving forward I will need to purchase a 75u and 90u wash bag to experiment with full melt. For now though I’m not trying to win any competitions lol.
I think my hot knife and bottle toking days are long behind me… What are some modern ways to consume hash these days!? A chillum perhaps? I saw this thing called a hash kettle that I found very intriguing.
Maybe I’ll just roll a nice doob with a hash snake in the middle!
Until next time…
