The Campfire 🔥 Gather 'Round!

Last wk I removed all the plants from the 2x2 and cleaned up the bottoms, top dressed with craft blend, added some fresh earth worm castings and sprinkled on some Bokashi bran. Probably a week or two late but life has been a bit busy lately. Lots of deficiencies popping up but I’ve taken note and will be a bit more on top of things next time. It’s definitely cool to see the different deficiencies with all the different genetics and goes to show you that you really need to dial in a specific strain for a few runs.

Here are some photos for the record. This is day 42F which were taken March 2nd.

The White Widow x C99 seem very uniform to me:

Trumps Candy x Obama, two different phenos. One is purpling up nicely and is reminiscent of some bubba pics I’ve seen:

Sour Sorbet (DNA Genetics, Sour D x Sorbet) before and after clean up. This was the one to show frost the earliest:

Purple Moby Dick (Dinafem Seeds, Jack Herer x Purple Afghan Kush)

These are the two Sherbert Fallen Soldiers from CSI Humboldt:

Purple Banana Cream (TH Seeds crosses the Banana Punchsicle and French Macaron. Banana Punchsicle is a cross between the champion of the banana terp, Banana OG, with the infamous berry heavy Purple Punch. The French Macron is a mix of Gelato 33 and French Cookies). These are very cool structure, different. The plants literally look like dessert to me for some reason.

Purple Romulan (Next Generation)

Grape God (Next Generation)

Two completely different phenos of Phantom Cookie Domina (Garden of Green, GDP x Black Domina).

It’s been a super fun experiment growing this many plants at once and seeing the different expressions. The whole point of this was to see how well a bunch of plants could preform in that small space, how long before I would start seeing deficiencies and if I would run into any major problems. It’s been a decent amount of work to keep them watered and clean but it’s all been working out for a test run of sorts. That was four days ago and already the tent is looking much frostier, beefed up and more colourful.

Here’s one from tonight:

Here we are in the main tent with the seed project plants. These are the GMO x Obama, Headband x Chem D and Guerilla Fumé. They will be getting sprinkled with Lemon Jeffrey pollen tonight.

The plants are really starting to beef up and are getting quite stinky. The HB x Chem D plants are the grossest (in a good way) with literally smells of puke coming off the plants. The GMO x Obama plants are have this puke funk with a bit of sweetness in the background which is exactly my jam. I’m excited for all of these though.

I’m seeing a small amount of thrip damage and a few of them of some of the leaves but I’ve been on top of my IPM regime and knocked them back significantly in the first two weeks after flip. I’m still noticing a few thrips here and there but they’re a lot more hard to find since I went aggressive on the IPM sprays. I’m sure pests are normal with soil grows but I’m starting to get a little annoyed with all the pests I’ve been dealing with. Either way, forging ahead!

Here’s my favourite little Trumps Candy 7 x Obama starting to remind of some Bubba plant pics I’ve seen.

I almost forgot…

MY SPRAY GUN ARRIVED (about 2 wks ago). It is real and it is FANTASTIC.

Works very well. It has a blue LED so you can see where you’re spraying and it sprays a SUPER fine nano mist!!! Like super super fine. It’s very nice and only approx $26 Canadian!!!

I can’t believe that shithead company Petra Tools wanted $170 for their mini fogger.

NOPE!

Plants in the main tent got dusted tonight.

I finally opened the package of pollen I got and there was like, a dusting of pollen. Like… a pinch of pollen! Lol so I mixed it with some flour to help with application.

I don’t have high hopes for this but we’ll see what happens. I was able to get my hands on a pack of Lemon Jeffrey seeds so at the very least I can grow my own out, reverse some plants and get my own pollen another time.

This was my solution for covering the branches I didn’t want to pollinate. Some of the plants just aren’t up to par structure wise, so I’m skipping two HB x Chem D plants.

I turned off all the fans/exhaust, dimmed the light to control heat and blew the pollen all over the exposed branches. Once dusted I labelled the branches with plant tags.

After pollination was complete I let the tent sit still for about 3 hrs. After that I removed the bags and sprayed the entire tent and plants down with water really well, dried everything with fans then sealed up the tent and turned everything back on.

We’ll see!

SO IT WAS WORTH IT!

Did you still have the link?

I’ve read that if flower is used in this method, you should be extra vigilant for pests afterwards.
I don’t have any experience with using it so I can’t say it is a fact but I have read several accounts from other growers.

Just a thought.

Yessir (this is for the mobile app link). Price went up a couple bucks:

C$ 31.02 50% Off | 380ML Electric Nano Blue Light Steam Spray K5 Wireless Fogging Disinfection Sprayer Gun Type-C Atomization Sanitizer Machine

Thanks for the heads up on that! I was not aware. I did however give the plants a good spray down with water after a few hrs. Like, a good spray down with my pump sprayer, not a measly spray bottle. It was like a rainstorm in there and completely washed the plants but I will keep an eye out for sure.

These Sherbert Fallen Soldiers from CSI are shaping up to be nice plants. The smell on the first one is intoxicating. Intense candy fizz that tickles my nose… exactly like sherbert (sherbet) ice cream I had when I was a kid. The first one here is much more intense than the second one which is fizzy candy but with a bit of musky/earthiness to the back end. This is day 49F so heading into week 8. Prob another 10-15 days on these, might be a bit longer for the second one which has much more pronounced pistils that are still very structured, thick and white.

Who here thinks I look like that guy :point_up_2:?

Haha anyway so, today I wanted to update about HASH!

My first washing experience was all about the squish. I experimented with making bubble hash rosin and I still have a lot to learn and experience with that because hash rosin is pretty novel to me. My second wash was dedicated to making bubble hash. I did not press my resin this time with my rosin press but instead decided to follow some Frenchy Cannoli old school hash methods by applying heat and pressure with a bottle filled with hot water. Making hash was super nostalgic for me and I had a lot of fun doing it.

My very first experience getting high was with hash! I was 14 yrs old and my buddy told me about these things called bottle tokes. We used to roll the hash up into little balls and dab them onto the ends of cigarettes, stick the burning ember into a bottle with a hole cut on the side to capture the smoke then suck that smoke back like a champ. I’m sure most of you know what bottle tokes are but it’s a bit of an old school method and maybe some of you reading this have never heard of it.

Getting back to it, I remembered that I had found a reserve of old Weed World Magazine articles that Frenchy made awhile ago. I opened them up and found this gem of an article about pressing, curing and aging hash and wanted to try it out:

Here’s the PDF if you want to download and keep it for yourself:
LAOTH_PressingCuringAging.pdf (2.7 MB)

Here’s my bubble, fresh from the freezer. I sieved this into a pizza box lined with parchment paper (just the regular parchment paper from costco), closed the box and kept this in the freezer for about two weeks.

Trying the turkey bag method did not go very well for me. The bag slipped a lot while pressing and after I stuck it in the fridge for a bit a lot of hash stuck to the insides and started breaking up the bag while I was trying to peel it off… nightmare.

I do not recommend the turkey bag method!

I found that a much more efficient method was to use the parchment paper that I use in my rosin press. This one is much better suited to sticky surfaces and made pressing the hash a breeze. I also had my sous vide machine keeping a water bath going at 200F on the side. I would place my bottle in the bath to heat it up in between pressings. This made the process MUCH faster and way more efficient than having to boil a litre of water every 20-30 mins or so!

I’m wasn’t expecting blonde hash here or even light brown. The buds that I washed were a combination of lowers, mids, fresh frozen and even trim bin buds that had been dried and cured.

Here’s the 25-44u resin:

Here is the 45-159u resin:

Here’s a side by side. The large ball is the 25-44u. You can see a slight variation in the colour:

I let the temple balls to dry for about 4-6 hrs, I found this process to be very important. It allows the outer surface to dry and seal the hash, creating a shiny hard coating on the outside. After that though, I flattened the hash into pancakes and vacuum sealed everything. I’m not convinced this is the best way to package these temple balls. Frenchy writes about opening the container to allow for oxidization in his article… I may have to reconsider the vacuum seal.

How do you all do it? I’d be interested in hearing your methods.

I’ve seen a video where Frenchy wraps it in the cellophane stuff and it looks kind of like a candy apple or something. Ideally I would like to keep this in a wine fridge but I’ve been saving my pennies for one and can’t quite afford it yet. I found a sweet spot in one of my basement drawers under my utility sink where it’s up against an outer wall to my house. In the winter it’s a frosty 16-19C (roughly 65F) during winter so that will have to do as a storage spot until I get something better.

All told I got over 50 grams of nice bubble hash to contend with! Seeing the results, I am completely satisfied with this! Last year I threw a giant tupperware container full of over dried trim bin buds that I found on the back of the grow room shelf. Making hash with this stuff is helping me to preserve and utilize the plant in better ways. Mind you I haven’t smoked any yet but I’m sure it will be more than up to par. My plan is to let some of it age and some of it I’ll dig into right away.

Moving forward I will need to purchase a 75u and 90u wash bag to experiment with full melt. For now though I’m not trying to win any competitions lol.

I think my hot knife and bottle toking days are long behind me… What are some modern ways to consume hash these days!? A chillum perhaps? I saw this thing called a hash kettle that I found very intriguing.

Maybe I’ll just roll a nice doob with a hash snake in the middle!

Until next time…

I need some guidance here though ppl… I’m really working hard to try and learn to read the plants better. Observe observe observe! Don’t just look! I’ve been too guilty of missing the signs in the past. I need to be diligent! Catch an issue and correct it quickly.

Take a look at these pics and give me your honest opinion. I’m thinking a potassium and calcium deficiency combined with a little over watering. Probable some micro nutrient issues as well but I can’t nail down which ones. Im also noticing thrip damage, which I mentioned before. I beat them back in the first 3 wks of flower with insecticidal soap and beauveria bassiana foliar and root drench. Either way, I’d love some opinions if possible.

Definitely K and Calcium as well as Magnesium.

If you think what is happening to the leaves when they curl down and in, the plant is reducing its surface area to light, to reduce respiration and creating a micro climate to hold on to its water while trying to keep cooler. Your humidity may be low and or temps to high for your humidity levels also the light may be to close.

Potassium controls the way the plant can pump water through itself same as with humans. Magnesium and Potassium in humans is what regulates our hydration, so you may be need some Magnesium as well, which kind of goes hand in hand with calcium.

Shadey! Good to see you in the thread. Thanks for stopping by and for your input. Everything you said makes so much sense and I remember reading about that before but it’s amazing all the info the seems to slip out of this brain of mine. I was thinking that the light was a bit too close but I remembered in the past that the leaves curled upwards in a taco fashion when I had this problem before so I was thinking that couldn’t be it… man so much to learn/retain and remember!

So basically my VPD is just out of whack! I’m sitting around 28-29C (82-85F) during day temps. A little higher than I wanted or expected at this time of the year and then 20C/68F at night temps. My RH is right around 55-60%. In my experience, for my particular grow area, if I go any lower than 50% RH I tend to get PM. So I experimented with a higher RH ion flower and I haven’t seen it show up since. Maybe my space heater is created a bit too much heat during day temps…

Thanks, this is great info here!
