Vacation Spots

I just got back from Cuba before COVID lock down in January of 2020. Rock climbing trip to Viñales—absolutely incredible place, even better people, and some of the best climbing.

Seems like Seven Psychopaths might make one’s entire week if you play it right!

Thanks for all the input ladies and gents.

Decision made. Cancun. It seems like a bit of a compromise but also seems like the only way to accommodate everyone.

The butler has been nixed but I will be able to enter my room from the pool which seems kind of cool.

Cheers and happy travels all!

Between the red tide and 8000km stretch of Sargassum i’d suggest tracking where it ISN’T if you are traveling anywhere around the caribbean / gulf of mexico.

Good to know.

We’re not going until December so who knows what it’ll be like then.

If it’s a problem, well, I’m sure the pool is nice too (also they have an artificial wave so I can surf anyway🤟)

Edit - I just double checked and seaweed season is April to October.

Oh you’re gonna be good then! My folks were in the Grand Cayman islands one year in March and it was totally clear… another year it was May and Sargassum EVERYWHERE.

Yeah I have been skunked by seaweed before and also by man ‘o wars washing onshore on a different occasion.

At a certain point you get what you get.

On a positive note this resort was built in 2020 so it’s basically brand new. I saw a recent video posted by a guest and everything is nice and new and super clean.

I love yellowstone if you can make it without a huge crowd. I managed to go there during the pandemic when everyone was locking in and it was a great experience I doubt I can replicate, but will deff try again.

Also:
-Redwoods,
-a trip up highway 1 from Cali through Oregon with stops along the way
-and I thought the Opal Beach in Florida was really nice and relaxing, but looks like I need to look at some more beaches

I agree the 101 along the coast is beautiful. Good thing we were in a car so many wood carvings I wanted to buy .

:joy: deff same here! that and any redwood I could find, what an insanely pretty tree that is. I really liked lake tahoe, crater lake, and battle rock in oregon too!

Even went as far as cape alava just to say I went that far west, it just wasn’t as pretty (but the Hoh Rain Forrest was really cool!)

Fun thread, see the decision has been made but I gotta shout out my all time personal favroite vacation: Vieques, Puerto Rico.

Small island off of main island, a lot of it is nature preserve stuff. Had a fun scooter the whole trip and stayed in a crazy cool hotel/compound called Hix Island House. Concrete structures designed to blend in with the jungle, it was like half inside half outside:

We rode around, had great food, fantastic weather in Feb. Nice break from mid atlantic coast that time of year. Kinda of like a tiny “downtown” strip on a beach, then everything else spread out. It’s own small little world. Kayaked out in a bioluminescent (sp?) bay, microorganisms that generate light. Kinda like plankton fireflies. Super beautiful. Scored a small bit of pot! Credit cards/banking system worked, US dollars worked, trip was as easy as it was wonderful. Had beers with an up and coming MMA type fighter and his fiance. All travelers and locals were friendly.

This was about ten years ago. There’s also a “W” on the island for those that would rather have a resort style trip. Vieques was awesome!!!

Looks cool man. I’ve seen the bioluminescence you mention and it is quite a sight.

Also, aside, I don’t smoke cigarettes but a member of our party is a heavy smoker and we just discovered that smoking is illegal in public places in Mexico. The resort, the sidewalk, everywhere except private residences.

I think it’s a $300US fine.

Dang, the anti smoking thing is hilarious to me. Trying to solve 20th century problems in the 21st, the latency in society frustrating to me.

Biggest issues in 21st century are over eating, attention disorders, and the expense of an aging population. Ciggs are an appetitie suppressant, mild stimulant that ease ADD without pills, and kills people dead shortly after they stop working. Wonder drug if there ever was one!

Bring extra medication, flak jacket, AND every penny you have.

Every realtor here is shady & there’s a LOT of them…like lawyers in California.

I knew in Panama it was heavily restricted but it didn’t matter to me so I didn’t really check. Now that I’ve checked, and the rules are slightly different in different Central American countries, but smoking is banned mostly everywhere.

Interesting I wouldn’t have thought but there you go.

I’d go a step further and say most realtors, everywhere.

Bank of Canada: Interest rates are going to skyrocket so be very careful.
Realtors: Don’t even worry about it.
