Vegetable Garden 2021

Well it snowed in zone 5b and got down to 28F at nights for the last 2 days…But it looks like they have survived, the lettuce looks a little ragged but it should be ok…

I didn’t cover the radishes, onions, garlic, beets, turnips, carrots, snow peas and asparagus.

No, Illinois zone 5b…these are my Reapers from last year…I kept them in the house throughout the winter and are now producing flowers/peppers…I just took these pix today. Peppers are small because they’re in a small pot I’m going to repot them and keep them in the house during winter this year too.

Well I’m 90% done with my garden…I put al my vegetables out my cukes & melons are flowering already…I don’t think we’re gonna get anymore freezing temps or snow so I just planted everything.

My potatoes are actually growing in the containers, 1st. time this year growing them.

Crazy how different zone 5b can be. I’m also zone 5b and can’t plant most the garden for 3 ish weeks

Well I’m taking a risk here…folks say not to plant before Mothers Day but I’m getting sick of watering these in their individual cups every couple days…I don’t think we’ll get anymore cold spells or snow, I’ve been checking the forecast…
The only problems I’m having now are the damn rabbits nibbling on my lettuce & cabbage…the dogs do a great job keeping them away and the hanging pie pans also work but only when there’s wind…I’ve been outside at nights and theres no wind. Maybe I should bring out a high speed fan for the nights there’s no wind…:joy::sweat_smile::rofl:

My bell peppers and jalapeno
I was wondering why my bell peppers were all green since I planted green, red, orange, yellow they change colour with age, I read that online don’t now if it’s true

Next time I’ll grow them in a bigger pot, that was my first mistake, the jalapeno looks more like a bell pepper
The first pic is the jalapeno strange looking pepper,
Took the seeds from the pepper itself when I bought it

They should turn colors as they ripen…as far as the jalapeños are sure you didn’t get the seeds mixed up by mistake? Harvest one and taste it…

Peppers typically grow pretty slowly, would give them some time.

I’ve got lots of nice greens coming in now - arugula, lettuce blends, green onions, carrots as well. The arugula grows like crazy, much faster than the lettuce. Probably start working in the tomatoes and peppers in a week or so.

I had the side effects of my Moderna shots yesterday and felt like shit but today I felt 100% normal and then some…I’m pretty much all done except for 3-4 more plants that I have to plant in my trellises…
I have these fruits and vegetables in my garden this year: onions, radishes, garlics, cauliflowers, brussle sprouts, cabbages, broccoli, peppers, tomatoes, leeks, bok choy, lettuces, Italian rapini & romanesco, eggplants, honey dews, cantaloupes, okras, potatoes, cucumbers, zucchinis, yellow squash, snow peas, multi colored carrots, beets, turnips, bush beans, yellow beans, artichokes, basil, cilantro, celery, sweet potatoes, asparagus, long beans and bitter melons.
