The environment here is WAY better than that of pretty much any social media site. There are a lot of old-timers here from the time before the mass homogenization we’re seeing now. Don’t get me wrong, the new polyhybrids are nice and it’s really good that attitudes have changed. Every year there seems to be more and more stains with flashy names, while the differences between strains is getting less and less.
Whats up,
Served 2011-2019. Not as ancient as the rest of ya, JK, but I am here to get some experience and feedback with landrace and high CBD strains. Any reccomendations? Most dispensary bud gives me anxiety after a few hits from a bowl. I grew my first crop this summer, Cannatonic 1:1 CBD:THC, 12% ratios, finishing my last week of cure.
I dont know what happend, I used to smoke 2-3 blunts a day before the military and now a bowl can cause crazy anxiety.
I have a similar reaction to sativa leaning strains sometimes. My heart races and I have had panic attacks from some of them. I find indica and indica leaning hybrids are much better and seem to relax me. Blue dream was one of the few sativa leaning strains that have that same relaxing effect for me. I also find that when I take THC in by tincture it is a more mellow and even experience. Hope some of this helps you.
Cannabis is stronger than it’s ever been. I got back into it after getting out of the Army about 10 years ago, and the potency really surprised me.
100% agree with you @Herrsquidward that’s one reason I wanted to switch gears and work exclusively with Landraces, and try to maintain diversity and the uniqueness alive.
Hey @dopekota glad to see you here!
I admit I’m pretty ancient. My kids remind my.all.the time hahaha
so. I.deal.with severe anxiety and also tend to mainly stick with Indica. Though sometimes a strong THC Indica or mostly indica hybrid causes me depersonalization. This is usually if there is is little to no CBD present.
and picking before the trichomes are less then optimal. I ussually like them around 30 - 50 % Amber/Gold
If you’re looking for a landrace with higher CBD, I would suggest middle eastern strains. I picked these stains to work on specifically breed for this reason. They are lower in THC and higher CBD
I’ve picked these to work with to help.with anxiety and PTSD and will be giving out, right here, with my fellow brothers and.sisters. this year.
My wife and grow partner @Lady.Zandra63 are working with Lebanese, Turkish and soon.with Syrian…they are quick growing "Semi-autolowering…both the Leb and Turkish
Are unique and extremely relaxing. Both had some noticeable thc without any anxiety or paranoia and helps with my chronic pain as well. Very happy feel good meds.
We have tried Cannatonic in the past one of the Perkin’s cut and some from Resin Seeds this latest from Resin was very good and probably a 1:1 also grew ACDC and it was really good. We have some Harlequin yet to pop.
@FirstCavApache64 Same here with the Sativa/Sativa dominant strains. I like to grow and preserve them, but lately I’ve been blending them with our Cannatonic to take a bit of the edge off.
I’ve had similar experience with the Blue Dream, miss that clone
We’ve also bred some old Blueberry with several strains one being a pure landrace Sativa that by itself, was racy and trippy but the xing with the Blueberry gave it euphoric uplifting mood without anxiety or racing heart or thoughts. I think Blueberry crosses are always better than the original. JMHO
Thats definitely true about the Sativa. I smoked half a J of an indica and had some great relaxing high. I wonder if I should just attempt to smoke in the morning with a sativa. Im a morning type of guy so it may help that edge if im not winding down for the day, ya know?
Let me know how those landraces do! where did you get the seeds? I have been looking at some through Aceseeds but I have enough flower as it is, I dont think i can convince my wife of another grow until the fall
I got the Lebanese and Turkish from Kwik Seeds .com. The Leb is going for $43.00 US and the Turkish is $34.00
For 12 seeds I’ve always got at least 13, plus you get 12 freebies of one of their landrace strains and 5 of their Afghan Mix, even if you buy just buy 1 5 pack at $17 for Turkish $21 for the Lebanese. You’ll still get the same 17 freebies.
Yes sir, don’t run into many maggots hanging around, LOL
I got out in spring of '89, my little brother went in fall of '89, he took a different path though, he went Airborne, after he found out I was Air Assault, 4th Bn 22nd INF 25th ID (Light) He (82nd Airborne) got to jump out of planes, and I was a “dope on a rope”. He had to go to the Big Sand Box the 1st time we went, and said from the start, we should just go and overthrow Baghdad while we had the support. But NO, had to wait to send another generation, and you poor guys had to do it in 2 different theaters, Iraq & Afghanistan, and I truly feel for those who had to go. I help an old Special Ops veteran (Woody) with free meds when he needs them, and we talk for hours when he and his wife stop bye, he says it’s relieving to talk to someone who understands, because he can’t be around groups of people, and group therapy is something he can’t handle. My pup Ranger absolutely LOVES them, and will not leave them alone when they are here, just pet me pet me pet me, LOL
His wife (Tina) is in tears every time they stop over, she can’t thank me enough for helping them out. I’m very grateful and proud to help them, and a couple other veterans out through the year with medicine.
Only 1% of Americans CHOOSE to take that oath, and I respect each and every one of them wholeheartedly.
We are a small “niche” group in society, and we need to help, support, and honor all that have served, or are serving any chance we can, because only a Veteran understands a Veteran.
@Kgrim, I’m a squid who served during the Cold War, so I’ve never experienced war up close. I have the deepest respect for those who served especially the wounded, both physically and mentally.
I admire what you’ve done to help your friend Woody. its amazing what just talking with fellow Vets can mean. Its also amazing what a furry friend, who is intuitive, can bring joy to those dealing with depression and PTSD.
I’ve been lucky enough in the past to provide weed & seed for our fellow bro’s and sisters. Unfortunately I’ve/we’ve had some set backs, but look for some future medicinal giveaways to all Veterans here.
Oh yeah Ill keep them in mind. Thats really good
Whenever people ask what they can do to help, I sum it up in one word: work. The lack of decent jobs where I grew up was one reason I joined in the first place. Yes, I collect my VA check every month (I did THREE combat deployments, as an infantryman). I earned that.
My step-grandfather-in-law was originally from Germany, but got caught behind the Iron Curtain when WW2 ended. He worked for the Stasi and the Hungarian secret police before crossing the border and defecting to the USA. He was Special Forces in Vietnam, and moved up through the ranks very quickly. He was one of the most dangerous people I’ve ever met. By ‘dangerous’, I don’t mean a threat to everyone around him, rather I’d never, EVER want to be his enemy. The stories he told me… His wife had little idea what he was talking about, and said she “loved hearing his stories.” I remember thinking (and tried to tell her, as tactfully as possible) that she had no idea…
One of the greatest honors I’ve ever felt was to have that man refer to me as a “brother-in-arms.” As soon as he said that, my mind immediately went to all the mistakes I’d ever made in the military, and felt unworthy of such a compliment.
Anyway, you’re right that vets understand vets. Some cops also get it. Yes, I’ve had police contacts, but that doesn’t subtract from my respect, for good cops, anyway. Law enforcement and military are not the same things, but there are probably more similarities than differences. I pissed one cop off by not being afraid of him, and addressing him how I would another veteran. I’ve signed/updated my last will and testament half a dozen times and nearly cashed it out about a dozen and a half times. I’d rather avoid legal entanglements, but their badge doesn’t frighten me.
Hash cultivars (Afghan, Leb, Paki, Moroccan, etc.) are likely to have specimens that are CBD-dominant, so you’re on the right path. The Real Seed Company sells what’s called CBG Zara, which are low THC and high CBG. CBG is great stuff. I participated in an experiment the VA was doing with a drug called Mifepristone, a stress hormone blocker. It worked, and felt like a huge weight had been lifted off me. CBG has a very similar effect. A CBD/CBG-dominant plant would be very medicinal.
I totally get what you’re saying
And there is way to many joless, homeless Vets out there. One positive thing the government does is gives priority to hiring veterans. Unfortunately many come home and can’t adjust. mostly because of many dealing with major PTSD. and turn to hard drugs to self medicate. I believe many fall through the cracks during discharge and the VA. Also.most do not want to talk about their experience it to strangers that have no common reference to their experience… that said civilian employers are a whole nother animal. Dispite the fact of discipline and drive along with leadership skills. They’d bring to the table. For whatever reason, some employers just won’t hire.
My Great Uncle was a WWII Vet. He was the nicest man you’d meet. but was battle hardened, fought his way from Normandy to Berlin A bronze star and purple heart recipient was wounded twice in two separate battles, including the Battle of the bulge. I once seen him confront his much younger neighbor (around 30) over a property dispute, while he was in his mid 80s. The look in his eyes, I thought he was going to kill him. He told him he’s killed better men than him. Thankfully for the other guy, there was a fence dividing the two.
I think some cops especially those who have served understand us. They too serve under pressure and danger. especially in high risk neighborhoods it can.change a person. and some see everyone as a threat. That said there are many that are great. and do acctually serve and protect! One instance was my wife was bleeding out and my kids were alone with her. The cops were there before the ambulance and one stayed and was really great with our kids, both on the spectrum, and he really went out of his way to calm them and focus their minds on something to distract them from what was happening.
That being said I’ve had run ins with the law as a kid that wasn’t positive.
Thankfully no jail time, that happened just after leaving the service.at 23, all alcohol related, I got it together a year later after meeting my wife. I’ve been alcohol free for 35 years now.
Cops don’t scare me, but like you said I’d rather avoid them.
Right! the middle eastern strains are Hash cultivars but can be used for bud. I find the Turkish to be an excellent choice so far for bud production as well as a hash producer.
KWIK Seeds is a sister site to The Real Seed Company for shipping to America, owned and operated by a fella named Angus.both banks carry the exact same strans. The CBG Zara, must be newer. I just checked it out and CBG is emerging as a great medicine as well. Thank you for pointed that out!
hello fellow Vets,
I’m trying to be more social this year and thought I’d stopby.
was Army from 81-85, a COMO guy - Ft Gordon, GA/Neu Ulm GE/Ft hood TX.
when stationed in germany, my team went to Shape Belgium and we had a 2-man safe in our rig.
the hash guy we met made us smoke all 5-6 kinds before he would sell us a gram.
[ @Draig mentioned turkish] - it was so black and gummy that they cut it with tobacco to smooth it out…
that was some trip
It’s really good you’re alcohol free. I got into legal trouble immediately following my third deployment, and alcohol was the main culprit. Around that same time, I found out my father drank himself into renal/liver failure, went home and suck-started a 9mm. Alcohol killed his father, my father and damn near myself.
Hey there @rootfarmer great to have you drop by!
I’ve seen some great hash from my time…Turkish was great looking but i hadn’t tried it then. I remember the Lebanese from my earlier days, so had to try it again.
So far I’m more impressed with it as far as growing with the the limited samples so far …the female phénos we have are a little different, and has a great citrus smell.and flavor akin to lime…just looking for a few good vigous males for an open pollination.
Then more direct selection.
I’ll probably use my large screens to use the traditional sieved method, “Kief”
With the leb, like i remember getting in the late 70’s early 80s. So far it’s blonde l’m sure any method would work great. Also thinking about using our ice bags and my small Rosin press. It is some good stuff clear up yet I believe the CBD, CBG in her make her relaxing and feel good with little effects concerning racing heart, anxiety or paranoia. Need to get these tested one day.
Thanks! I think so too…I’m sorry to hear about both your dad and grandfather. But I am glad you didn’t let Alcohol kill you brother.
I can relate to some of what you’re saying. My dad was an abusive alcoholic I believe I could have gone earlier way. but I choose to marry and with that, I had no choice other than to dry up.
I’ve had been involved in risky behavior while in service and a year out, like putting myself at risk due to very poor judgment, once, having some punks try to roll me, as I resisted at gun point. Some other, not so funny stories. I’m greatful to have made it out. I’m only sorry it took so long, in between, to get back to weed.
