Veteran's Corner

Just buy your guns from someone else. No paperwork, and Uncle Sam doesn’t know about it. There are some 400 million privately owned firearms in the United States. Finding someone who will sell you one without all of the paperwork shouldn’t be difficult. It’s also perfectly legal in most places. In fact, it’s against federal law for any government agency, at any echelon, to create a firearms database.
It’s second-nature for us “heads” to hide what we’re doing from the law. Many laws violate the both the letter and spirit of the US Constitution.

Yeah brother I hear you loud and clear! I’m not a fan of most pharma drugs or illicit drugs. like Crack, Meth Heroine etc.
Pot, shrooms, peyote even LSD should not be listed as a scheduled drug and not be considered illegal.
Really I think it all comes down to personal responsibility. With any drug use. Possession shouldn’t be a crime.
I’m not in favor of distribution to minors, same goes with Alcohol.
BUT this miserably failed War on drugs has done nothing but hurt otherwise innocent people. Not a damn thing has changed since Nixon, to improve the distructive abuse or addiction to the hard drugs. I’m not certain but I’m beginning to believe that drugs in general should not be illegal. I just don’t see a person who doesn’t do these drugs already thinking
“Oh it’s legal now! I’m going to the store and buying me an 8 ball”
“I think I’m going to Joe blows shop and try me some smack”

But a guy in the south like you has a 1/8 or less, in the back seat or wherever, will get busted. A veteran that may need weed to help with pain or PTSD gets thrown in cuffs, it’s not fair. I still make sure anything I carry is in a lock box in the back of our SUV. Just cover my ass from an over zealous cop.

I have to say, I’ve tried everything before settling down, except anything involving needles. mostly grown in the ground. Haven’t had shrooms, acid or peyote in nearly 40 + years but I don’t believe they are physically addictive, but it’s always good to have a trusted friend to guide you. I believe they all have medicinal value, and for some Native Americans these are part of their sacred beliefs/rituals and should be seen as freedom of religion.

Don’t buy them anymore. Just build them myself with 80% receivers.
This is the last one I “built” at “Reapers Rifleworks” my spare time company. No serial -#’s, as the ATF “recommends” it, but doesn’t require it. With scope, I’ve got just over $1100 into it. She’s a weighty one, bu It’s a 600 meter gun all day long. 24” Bull Barrel, adjustable gas block, muzzle brake, and Franklin BFS 3 Binary trigger. It’s loud as hell, but hardly any recoil, and with the Binary trigger, can dump 30 rnds as fast as a Class 3 full auto.
I know they aren’t supposed to keep a database, but still didn’t want to take the chance.
I’m about half way thru an 80% .45 build, I’m so swamped at work right now, by the time the end of the day comes around, just want to get home and relax, so haven’t been over to the Mills in a bit.

Nice. I just went ahead and got an AR, but I’m in Georgia, and it’ll be a cold day in hell before anyone even considers confiscating it, ATF orders or not. I got MILSPEC everything on mine, and I’m perfectly content with that. I basically have a civilian-legal M4 clone. The only differences are the barrel length (16 inches, as opposed to the M4’s 14.5), a lighter trigger pull (about 6 pounds to the M4’s 10) and no “burst” setting. What I have now is slightly better than what the Army issues. The extra 1.5 inches of barrel gives you about 100-150 FPS more velocity and a light trigger pull helps with accuracy. I don’t even miss the “burst” setting. I never used it in combat, and didn’t even train extensively with it; we’re trained to use semi-auto.
I also have a 12 gauge (7+1 capacity) and a .45 pistol (no, .45 is not better than 9mm; the size of the grip felt more reassuring).

Ever notice how much the VA prescribes Gabapentin and Lyrica to Vets?

Its a chemical lobotomy

It’s crazy. That shit has nasty side effects. I think that they, like every other Dr. are worried about over prescribing opioids and Benzodiazepines. Don’t know which is worse. I’ll stick with some good medical-grade weed. Thanks!

Oh That reminds me, I wanted to take a simple survey. I read on a veterans site that if you admit to using pot to the VA that you’re subject to loose your benefits including disability. I think that’s Bullshit. but wondered if it could possibly be true. I think it was suggested that if you do admit you get tested and if you do not go to a drug rehab program, that is what happens. I just don’t believe it. Maybe they suggest it if it interfers with other meds they prescribed. But i call BS on cutting you off of benifits especially disability.

Has anyone heard of this ridiculous nonsense?

I have not heard of this nonsense. But, I also haven’t been to the VA in about 34 years, the Dr’s in Ann Arbor did a great job on my knee, and haven’t had a problem since.
I do remember reading that the VA was working on changing their stance on MJ even though it’s still federally “illegal”. One of the Vets that I help out, (Woody) goes to the VA regularly and has never been asked to take a “drug test” and his Dr’s know that he’s using MJ as opposed to the nasty pharmaceuticals they want to keep feeding him.

Thanks brother! That’s what I’ve been hearing too. I think the guy that posted that is Anti-MJ because everyone on that thread called BS on that. and several of the Vets have admitted like your buddy Woody that they partake. I never been to a VA hospital, except once, when I first got out, as a follow up on somedental work.
Otherwise I heard Scandals and horror stories of long waits and unsanitary conditions. Poor treatment of patients etc. I had a decent job and great health benefits. No GI bill really. Had the Montgomery bill but had to pay and they matched. I didn’t think I’d be going to collage. So the Only time I thought about them was a VA loan
So,I just enrolled in the health care last year, but still have Medicare.
and I’ve heard things have gotten better. I got VIC but still waiting on a health card. We do have a team that comes to our local American Legion
Note we live in a low populated rural community near small towns no VA facilities. Which is an improvement the work with my local drs.

I thought I’ve read they were making progress with MJ as it is not physically addictive. And it works, not just for pain and anxiety but PTSD and alternative to many other chemical drugs. Ever just read or see on TV the long list of sever side effects on some of the Big Pharma drugs? drugs for like psoriasis include TB and death? Yeah, NO Thanks

I’m fortunate enough that I only I had to visit to get my knee fixed after I got out But haven’t been back since.
I’ve got decent insurance and a very cool family Dr.
MJ DEFINITELY helps with PTSD better than any pharmaceutical, but that’s just my opinion.
I’ve seen 1st hand how it helps those with PTSD and no side effects.
Seeing all those TV adds is crazy, take this to help this, but be prepared, it may kill you or fuck you up with side effects and some other disease, that why I stay away from any “modern” medicines. I guess the FDA thinks it’s a balance, will help some, but fuck up others, that’s why I shy away…
I’ll eventually have to go back to the VA to get my medical card updated, as mine is over 35 yrs old and in pieces, LOL
I’ve heard that things have gotten better at hospitals, but fortunate enough that the hospital where I used to live was always good, and the hospital in Ann Arbor is fabulous as they work closely with the U of M.
Most of the problems I believe are from large cities like Philadelphia, Bosoton etc. Most of the smaller hospitals, like Saginaw where I grew up, seem to be pretty good, my friends wife works there, and wouldn’t if it was not a good place to work.

They put me on all manner of poisons, and I damn near lost it once. They throw very strong SSRIs and Ambien at everything it seems. Yes, I do need anti-depressants to this day, but what I take is mild and I don’t need much of it. The best thing to do would be let me grow my own medicine, but that’s one thing they really don’t like. In fact, the VA has opposed even researching the efficacy of cannabis, let alone recommending it. In fact, I couldn’t get anything stronger than Ibuprofen for my blown rotator cuff, because I had come up hot for THC. I’m lucky I didn’t lose my benefits; if some people had their way, I’d not only lose benefits, but would go to prison. Not to jump on the “I Hate Boomers” bandwagon, but it is boomers who wrote these policies, or at least enforce them. Those same Boomers probably smoked more weed, dropped more acid and did more dope in general back in the 60s and 70s than any of us.

Of course drugs should not be illegal. Drug addiction is a MEDICAL issue. Besides, prohibitionists have had over 50 years and about a trillion dollars to deal with it…and look where we are. It failed, ABJECTLY. Unfortunately, the drug war is being run by sociopaths who don’t care what it costs in resources, lives and money; they’ll keep it going before they ever admit defeat.

Man I haven’t seen him in ages but do you recall a Sgt John Steffey? He was one of or the first person over the bridge(s?) Into Falluja. I Think he was a mine sweeper but I recall bomb/ IED disposal too. Dangerous job! Would be crazy if you knew him. I think I’d have been pooping little diamonds each morning from such a tight sphincter doing such work. Special thanks to you and all of our other vets here on OG. Your service is greatly appreciated.

As I’ve said before, Georgia’s climate would be excellent. We get 7 months guaranteed frost free (May-November). Even when it does freeze, it’s only for a few days and usually at night. I could pop seeds on March 21, put them in their temporary homes through April (bringing them in if the temps drop) and have them in their permanent homes by May 1. In addition to the long growing season, our UV index is often 11+, with 10 being the average on clear days. Humidity here is also rather low, considering the humid sub-tropical climate. I’ve seen it drop to 40% and is usually no higher than 60%

I’d love to get a hemp license. High THC hemp phenos are more common than people think. So little research has been done (or even allowed) that it’s impossible to guarantee there will be >.3% THC in each and every plant. The most important thing about hemp is it desensitizes people to the presence of cannabis in any form. The more people growing hemp without the sky falling, the less concerned most citizens would be about it.
I can understand why some people oppose legalization. Legalization is synonymous with the problems places like California are having. Many are concerned that legalization would be the first step toward a slide into total anarchy, at least in their minds. One-on-one, they’re not opposed to people growing for their own use, but can’t quite defuse cannabis legalization from chaos. That’s something else that irritated the hell out of me. When so many were saying “defund the police”, they had national attention. That was a rare opportunity in which they had national attention, and could have worked toward ending the War on Drugs. If we ended the drug war, I’d wager a lot of issues with law enforcement would resolve themselves. Cops are refusing to enforce new gun laws, so why can’t they simply ignore cannabis? If they gave a fuck about the Constitution (you now, that document they swore to support and defend), they’d be refusing to enforce quite a few laws.
Rant over. Sorry.

My buddy from SFOD keeps sayin “cant wait til these Boomers just fucking die, look at how much they fucked us”
Same guy also turned me onto a fantastic medicine.
Mirtazapine (Remeron)
Its not quite an SSRI, though it does help serotonin levels.
Its a norepinephrine regulator - basically it stops the adrenaline dump so triggers or sleep dont plague you with an adrenaline reaction anymore.
Another added benefit is it completely resets your cannabis tolerance. I went from at least a half ounce a day to a single dab whitting me out.

I was DOS, not DOD, so I dont have VA to deal with. I dont get any help, but I also dont get fucked with.

last year I saw 2 DRs in the VA Behavior Health - a PTSD therapist & a psychiatrist
only saw the psychiatrist in attempt to get a ADD RX

  • she told me I would have to piss every month to get a stimulant from the VA
  • she offered a deferent depression drug RX each visit - no thank you !!

[BTW, currently the VA is conducting Ketamine trials for severe depression]

  • based on 2-3 other patients comments, my therapy DR asked
if the grow hobby provided some form of therapy
of course, i agreed it did

I tried it once (the VA gave it to me) and it damn near pushed me over the edge. Then again, they also had me on Celexa, hydroxizine and Ambien. I’ve had a nervous breakdown once already, and Mirtazipine (along with everything else) made me feel like that again. I might have never had such serious problems with alcohol if I could have used cannabis. Hell, the only reason I drank was because I couldn’t have weed.

I participated in a study of the efficacy of Mifepristone for PTSD. That stuff works really well. It blocks the production of stress hormones. It felt like a weight had been lifted off me. Interesting to note that the effects of CBG were very similar.

Hey brother @Kgrim Small.world I too, was born and raised in Saginaw!

The VA in Saginaw, from what I’ve my heard from my brother and sister and many of my old friends, is that they are pretty good now.

I’ve heard the one in Ann Arbor is the best in state because the do work with U of M.

sometimes my skepticism gets the better of me. I’m not the paranoid type but big pharma isn’t out for cures and wouldn’t put it passed them to design drugs that treat a disease, only to give you another condition so they can sell you another med for the new condition your other prescription caused, just to make more profit.
I’m probably wrong, and just skeptical but it seems that way. If they focus on cures they shoot themselves in the foot!

The civilian hospital over prescribed me steroids which caused me to develop Type 2 diabetes.

The closest VA hospital to me is in Muskegon, about an 2 hr round trip drive from us, from what I hear, the one in nearby Grand Rapids is better but bigger doesn’t always mean better.
I get all of my surgeries through a non VA corporate health system called Spectrum Health in GR, Better than our local hospital.

I think that the VA might work as a supplemental. and surgery could be less than the 20% copay I pay, with my Medicare, I do need to look into that.
