I’m hoping 1c is a girl, so I can use her as a seed mom, plus maybe a non-crinkle as a segregated seed mom, thus making two moms. 1a likely has the crinkle gene, too, so 1a is a possibility for a mom, too. I’d like to have a seed mom out of F2 batch 3, too, as the 3’s are better growers.
Yesterday it was determined that 1c is definitely a crinkle. Seaweed application will start this week. 1b is starting to grow out of the yellow. Not going to cull quite yet.
I’m looking at pollinating in May-June. Not quite sure exactly what will go to seed; kinda depends on the sex of 1c, which I really hope is a female.
Seedlings got a bit neglected and rootbound for a few days there, but yesterday I put them in one gallons. I’ve got another set of seeds to pollinate in the backyard before these (Bodhi’s Staff of Life!), so I think we’re looking at May before I can pollinate these. Should be good timing.
The ones off F1 plant #1 are definitely more to the Vietnamese side: thinner leaves, more finicky, slower root development, but more psychoactive effect. The #3’s are more to the Afghani side: more stout, more vigorous root development, wider leaves, overall better general health, still quite psychoactive. I’m still not sure if I want to try to inbreed each line completely separately, or use a pollen mix to keep both traits alive on both sides, in this generation. That would still steer each side more toward the mother, but it will not be nearing consistency yet. (I think I prefer the latter.) If anyone wants to discuss the genetics of it, that would be fun!
In both the F1’s and F2’s, there was a very unique, psychoactive effect. It is more pronounced and consistent in the F2’s, especially when the plant begins with the crinkle trait. I am partial to the more “sativa” #1’s, so if I can get a male and female of #1, I think I’ll go for it. Plus, I still have several more #1 and #3 to work with, and even a couple F1.
Actually just getting around to hitting plant 1c with seaweed today. Took me a while to find that dang bottle lol. She’s still throwing crinkly leaves, only been up potted for a few days. Will hit with seaweed today, and I bet all subsequent leaves will be normal.
It’s been a while since I updated because the plants were really struggling in the garage. They needed to get out in the sun, and now they are bouncing back.
Quick update: Each plant has about 5 nodes. I’m going to veg them with supplemental light for at least two more weeks, possibly 4 more weeks.
So, at the latest, they will go into flower on May 1, which should give me time to pollinate them and destroy the males by early June, which won’t interfere with my sensi crop, which goes on June 1, but won’t start flowering until July.
So the plan is set: keep male or males from one line only, preferably #1. Then pollinate all the females, which will leave some 1 x 3 cross (which is just a wider genotype) and some will be 1 x 1
Or 3x 3, depending on where the male comes from.
If I don’t get a male #1, I’ll do an all #1 run later.
Three or four females should yield several hundred seeds at least.
PS - Staff of Life is still running at my buddy’s spot, but we made an arrangement where he is going to pollinate them and do the whole run. I’m a little concerned, but I’ve decided to just put my faith in him and see what he comes up with. I just would not have been able to do the pollination of sol with everything else I’ve got going right now.
Plants took some leaf damage, but I realized yesterday that maybe they took some root damage, as well, because the new leaf growth seems somewhat damaged, too, unless I’m imaging how much new growth there has been in the past couple weeks.
Anyways, I repotted them yesterday in 5 gallons. I figure this will give room for some new root growth.
Interestingly, the most freakish plant, the one that came up crinkly, had by far the best roots out of the six.
I’m gonna have to get them flowering now, as I want the boys gone for the summer.
Sorry, no pics yesterday. It’s so hard to remember to take pics when I’m out there working in the garden! Will go out and take some pics soon.
1b and 3b both show male. 1c (the crinkle) shows female. The others could go either way, but if I had to bet, there’s at least theee girls, probably four.
So, it’s decided: 1b will pollinate all the plants. 3b will come off light dep to be reserved in the case that 1b can’t get it up. I will pull some 1c x 1b for my line breeding, with the remainder all being mixed together.
The first 1000 seeds are promised to my homies here in OG, but those folks are on here and I’m sure anyone who wants some can work it out to get some. I’ll likely have some more to give away too.
Yes, my goal is to line breed toward the crinkly Vietnamese pheno, which is 1c. Everything else being produced here is just bonus, but the #3 genes will still be in there.
So, I’m quite bummed right now. It looks like we have a bona fide sausage fest. It looks like 4 males for sure, and the other two look male, too. The crinkle plant is definitely balling up.
