WHAB’s 1924 Brick Schoolhouse RDWC

I should have included in the title of this thread “by myself” ROFLMAO

I’m up there trying to get things done and having to rely on my acrobatic techniques I learned in my time in the circus! shocked (j/k - I was never in the circus! ROFLMAO )

This foot stool in the attic? It is my only way to get from the loft to the attic ROFLMAO. I’m having to relocate it for each activity facepalm ROFLMAO

I started out with a prototype board 6-1/2 feet long. I had to adjust that 3 times to get it to where it fits where I need it to fit to get the 7 foot ceiling height I want.

I couldn’t reach the the screws to get proper pressure on the drill/driver to drive them in…it was beyond my reach…so I had to clamp it to the rotted vertical support. Sketchy as heck! ROFLMAO

I was able to get a rough length of 67 inches. Now I have to make sure that is level, pick up the angles, then make the part and install it.

I ‘think’ my next trip to the attic will be my last trip up there before I have a working attic ladder - I ‘think’!

It’s completely absurd that your postman (woman?) shoved it in your mailbox like that. You certainly can’t blame Greenleaf for that. You should actually complain to your local post office about it - especially if you’re legal in your state; then you can make a big fuss without fear, and insure nothing like that ever happens again. Seriously, find out who your postmaster is and complain to them about it. Keep the box, too - just in case they want to see it.

The good news is that the Part B is the bag that opened. The Bud Explosion and the Part A are both fine grain and would a much bigger mess if they’d cracked open like that.

The other good news is that now you have your nutes! I can’t wait until you start 12/12 and things really kick into gear for you.

Here is the text I removed in previous post. I am including it now because of their follow up response…

Let it be known that if you relay another ridiculous instruction like that again I will discontinue my use of your product and I’ll inform others of this ridiculousness!

I will use what I have their product now AND it better produce spectacular results. IF it does not I will not conduct any more business with them.

Is megacrop a member here?

This is my exchange with them moments ago.

That is not the truth. I sent ONE picture I sent that clearly shows the ripped bag, re-attaching it, the ONE picture I sent…

Now the same picture clearly identifying what you now claim I didn’t send confused2

Could you possibly have another person respond to me from this point out, someone a bit less ridiculous, please?
Is my “partial refund” being processed?
This is foolishness!
Regards,

I had to scrunch the text to get it all in a “Quote” box.

Wow! Not an exchange I expected to have EVER! facepalm

I have things to do and none of them include dealing with ridiculous individuals! nonofinger

Wholly Geebus!,

This is what I recommend also. Build a soil offered me a partial refund I hadn’t asked. I only sent as they asked for a feedback.

Your right, I should have dumped it in the soil.

I don’t think the problem is due to local handling. It looks like it was on the bottom of a stack of heavier boxes. Or it was thrown around too aggressively.

It looks like it was originally sent through USPS, from Greenleaf Nutrients. They decided USPS should handle it. That’s what it looks like from my end. That is not the postmaster’s doing. Our mailbox, the old one still in place, is a plastic one. Had that damage been caused by forcing into this mailbox it would have broken this plastic mailbox.

I have a new, bigger metal mailbox and post just waiting on the ground thaw install.

Well, I plan to introduce the Mega Crop nutes to the grow as soon as I can exchange the reservoir with them still in Veg and close in the grow…I’m estimating a day or two at most. Very close! So kicking in will occur sooner than Flower! winky tup

I lied biggrin I had to get up and down a couple more times than I stated smokeit2 On one of those trips I actually looked up from the top of the step stool to see if I can reach the peak to screw the new vertical support up and I can’t. I’m about 6 inches short of reaching it fully stretched out. Gonna need something like a 6 step step stool to get up there enough to put some weight behind the driver. I ‘may’ have to build a box to put the step stool on. But, I did get the horizontal support up in place allowing me to remove the angled support to put the attic ladder in place.

That vertical support need not be done right now. I did build the support that will take its place.

This is the hole I’ve been working above. In and out and in and out cantlook biggrin

Now, I’m going to have a tea, then the ladder goes in…

Oh, I forgot. Here’s a few pictures of the girls. I apologize for the HPS induced crappy lighting but it is what it is. I tried to block the bulb with my body. I’m sure I scorched myself a couple of times. It’s not all of them. I couldn’t get a great angle on some of them and I’d burned myself enough winky I’ll get some better shots when I put them to Veg schedule.

Then need some good nutrients that I’m sure Mega Crop will provide. I’ve been using 10+ year old Supernatural. It’s all I had.

Will swap out the nutes before I enclose the space or put them on 18/6.

Excellent job man. I stayed away but I’m following …

You must be working with a crazy person, take good care of your back, stretch …

As for my house, we raised the walls with reused solid bricks. Now, I’m sanding the wood on the roof …
My back is killing me too …
Soon I’ll post some pictures for you to see …

Sounds like you’re doing some great work, man! tup

Be careful with your back - stretch! winky

I’d really enjoy seeing your progress when your comfortable in posting them! I’m keen to see your work!

IF I were a weaker individual I would have given up several times. IF I were a individual overly available to frustration I would have given up several times.

I don’t quit. Something life, and particularly, being a Marine instilled in me. Quitters die.

That’s not to say this wasn’t a right PIA, it was. And, it’s fought me ever step of the way. Mostly due to this being an existing structure that someone has already messed around in.

I’m stopping for tea and then I’m getting back at it. I’m going to at least get the ladder completely installed and function - that includes shortening the legs. I knew when I bought this attic ladder that it was made for a taller space. My space is much smaller than what they described. I figure IF I could cut it to make the smaller space they designate I can surely cut it more than that. I’m almost to that point.

I didn’t have any 2x6 material. I had to make some. The Festool TS-75 and Guide Rails excel at this task. Lay that Splinter Guard on the line and that is exactly where it cuts!

When I said earlier that the old vertical support could stay. I was wrong. I made a mistake. Another episode of “What The Hell Was I Thinking!!!” crazy

I cut it away. Note that I cut it with a hand saw. There was no pressure on the blade at any time through the cut. That means there was zero load on that support. (wait till you see how I’m going to reach the peak to screw it in place! ROFLMAO)

On the far end of the attic ladder rough in, it was too narrow. Too narrow by 1/2 inch shocked

A little off topic, I bought some “Parallel” woodworking clamps some time ago. These clamps are different then ALL other Parallel woodworking clamps. These Ehoma clamps have handles that can rotate 90° providing extra leverage in the clamp, whether “spreading” or “clamping”. First I had to spread the opening to make room for the header, then clamp the opening on that header. I found them only at #Woodcraft.

Then the big step, reclaiming 5.5sf of loft space! Getting that beast up into the attic by myself. They say it’s a ‘two man’ job. PFFT! ROFLMAO They don’t know anything! ROFLMAO. They didn’t account for one determined WhiteHotAfterburner! ROFLMAO Okay, I admit, it would have been a little easier IF I had another person helping! winky

I had to get this…up there ^ ^ ^ ! ROFLMAO

I opened the box and see this. The door isn’t fitting in the frame properly…

IF I have to return this thing, I am jamming it right up somebodies ass! Not a joke!

Then at this point I realize the “Strong-Back” someone (someone helping my niece) someone put up there that they NEVER attached this end to ANYTHING is in my way. I used my body to lift it up enough to get a 12 inch wedge under it.

This is the North end of this Tits-On-A-Bull Strong-Back! Just swinging in the breeze. I’m pretty sure whose work this is. I may or may not bring it up with them. I actually like the person and I know they were just trying to help out. They’re good people! But, this was a wasted of time and money.

I got it up there!!! woohoo

I got it in place! woohoo

Now I had to fit it into its space…

It’s not setting down right…

This tiny bit of sawing slag was holding it up. You know like the stuff you can get at the end of a saw cut…just a little bit of material that’s hanging on…ROFLMAO

Then finally seated! Not screwed in place yet. I had to get some caffeine in me! winky

I’ll see ya when I’m swinging that ladder! wink

IF you have a tough job that needs to get done find you a WhiteHotAfterburner! crazy

Add Edit: I forgot. I did something to the ballast or the cord or something, I’m not really sure. But, I’m there working away and I hear a noise. A sizzling noise. I look down and I see the light fixture end of the light, the part of the light fixture that plugs into the ballast sparking and starting to smoke and just as I’m grabbing the cord to unplug it the light went out. I was sure I destroyed the light system. I waited twice the recommended 5 minutes and plugged it back in and it worked. I think I may have inadvertently half-way unplugged it and the electricity was arcing between the prongs. It may have been some debris making the short, but I don’t think that was it…it is a possibility!

Whew! Man, that was something!

I only came down for Rocket Fuel!

I’m officially off of the Attic Ladder installation team! Got some slackers around here, but I got it done regardless! ROFLMAO

I have to cut off nearly everything what you see laying down. I knew I was going to have to trim some off but - DAMN! crazy

Then this is why the attic ladder had to go where it went. IF it were anywhere else in that space, pointing in any other direction I couldn’t use it and the space under it at the same time. I had to nudge the cloning machine over just a tad to get the swing I needed.

Yes, measure twice BUT check orientation TOO! biggrin Almost screwed up.

Then, it wasn’t in the instructions but supporting that first cut until you get the second cut finished is never a bad move!

I wound up with a ‘cutoff’ longer than what is left behind biggrin IF I had had the cutoff from the start I wouldn’t have needed the attic ladder - it’s long enough to reach the top side of the lower chord (ceiling joist)! biggrin

First swing!

I know a bunch of you are scrambling around trying to find my phone number so I can install your attic ladder - STOP! I’m out of the Attic Ladder installation business, there isn’t any money in it for me! ROFLMAO

Okay, I’m still going…not sure for how much longer. My Rocket Fuel just got to sipping temperature!

My back is telling me to quit - but, I don’t listen to it often…this is probably one of those times! Whistle

Well, I should have checked my feeding timer. It just went off. I’m not sure how this will effect my immediate plan. I may have to wait until the drain cycle…I mean, I will have to wait for the drain cycle now…but how it will fit with what I still have to do. I don’t expect cutting a hole for the booster fan and installing the final section of P&S is going to take all that long.

Man, that looks fun. I’m jealous of your indoor woodshop. :joy: My living room looks similar right now. I’m doing some rehab on my 1910 house, and installing some library shelving in the sitting room.

I’m also jealous of your tools. Wish I could afford a festool track saw. And that old wooden plane! I’ve got some of those in way worse condition. Made my own plane with shaper knives.

I’ve got an old schoolhouse just on the other side of my back property line. I always wished it was on our land, but kinda glad it isn’t. I’d be spending some time and money in there.

It’s exciting to see what you’ve got going on. I’ll be waiting for more. :+1: 🪵:call_me_hand:

I’ve hit my wall. I didn’t get it all done but I sure knocked a hole in it! smokeit2

I forgot about cutting that Tits-On-A-Bull Strong-Back back to clear a path up the Attic Ladder.

This is the only job I can see that the Strong-Back is doing. A few bays over it is supporting an additional diagonal support someone installed because the one there is weakened. I will address that, just not today.

I got the hole cut and the booster fan installed and running. I’m already not liking it. It’s noisy as hell. I can hear it from where I’m sitting, across the room…it’s easily 20 feet away from me and up in the attic! frown winky IF I don’t find my 6 inch inline fan soon I’ll have to buy another one, soon! I’m not sure how effective this one will be…it’s rated somewhere between “160 CFM free air to Max Boosted Air 250 CFM”…I’m pretty sure this one doesn’t have the Max Boosted function, in fact, it’s acting like it wants to quit at 160cfm ROFLMAO On a positive side, it is 6 inches in diameter, so a new 6 inch inline fan will fit right in! Coincidentally I have a 6 inch hole saw because that’s what we used to put in the Waffer LEDs in the ceiling, one of the first things I did when I moved in here…my niece did not believe in light crazy ROFLMAO

I judged the North/South very well. I didn’t judge the East/West worth a fiddlers fart! ROFLMAO

I didn’t even see that board when I was up there looking for a spot to cut through! But, I made it work! It gave me something to get a screw into, almost like I planned it! crazy

Here are the open eaves I mentioned and therefore wasn’t concerned about ducting hot air up there…it’s getting great cross ventilation! biggrin That’s looking East, then South, then West…

I saw daylight on the North end, that’s what made me take the above pictures. I forgot to look more closely at the North end after that! Whistle

I’ll see ya on the Flip-Flop! wavy

Hello @Rhino_buddy … happy to make your acquaintance wavy

Oh, man…a 1910 home sounds AWESOME! Good for you!

Hey, we have something in common already! I wish you could afford a Festool Track Saw too! winky

I saved up for it. I had a Powermatic Table Saw, one without dust control. That was the primary reason for getting the Festool. They’re unmatched in Dust Extraction. I had to make that change since I did plan on living in the same space as my woodworking tools.

As soon as I can swing it, I’m getting the Axiom Stratus to assist in Air Filtration!

Yeah, that old self-setting hand plane really is neat! I haven’t been able to devote any attention to it yet but I will.

It’s very cool you made your own shaper knives! That’s tool maker stuff…very smoke!

I don’t have a shaper, yet winky I haven’t convinced myself that I even have a need for one, but I am a Tool Horse (similar to a clothes horse but tools! ROFLMAO )

I’d like to see both if you’re comfortable showing them, your 1910 and the old schoolhouse!

Happy to have you along, @Rhino_buddy tup

All the best to you!

We have lots of festool stuff here at work, 2 track saws even. The domino they make is amazing also!

I’ll share some house photos when I get home, but here’s the plane I made.

And I do grind shaper knives from knife steel often, but I just used old blanks for the plane. It works well.

Here’s the shaper knife cabinets…

And shapers…

And because we have awesome old tools here, a jointer from 1896, with a 7.5 ft table. One of the best tools in the shop.

And a cool radius, rake glueing setup, for making railing etc.

Wow dude! That is stickin’ AMAZING!

Fantastic work on the hand plane! And, beautiful to boot! Very nice!

What is that you’re making there on the table with the hand plane. Is it an arched window?

Man, this is the most impressive Shaper Knife collection I have EVER seen! Wow! That shaper is doing some work! disco

Is that Jointer/Planer a 16 inch? I was going to call it an Oliver, it looks just like an Oliver…but the nameplate says American Woodworking Machinery Company.

Man, I REALLY want one of them! Can you hook a brother up!?!? ROFLMAO

I’ve never seen a rake glueing setup. That too is very impressive!

Thank you, @Rhino_buddy … I was heading to lay my body down and after I saw this post I couldn’t!!! icon_e_surprised

Hard do lay down when your head explodes! biggrin

I’m serious! Thank you for giving me a peek! tup

Add Edit: I just looked at your hand plane again. I’m a little puzzled. What are those bolts on the top? They don’t adjust the iron in and out of the mouth. They’re pushing down against the cross piece you have there. Puzzled! Is that hand plane 5 inches wide? In relation to the knob it must be at least 5 inches wide (more puzzled! smokeit2 ).
