p.s. the bikes are eye candyā¦ to a non-riderā¦ Iād be dead already if I had that speed beneath meā¦
Wow, what a cool article. I have to go back and read and savor it. I got my first Mountain Bike in '83 in Montana. I got so hooked on it and we had endless trails. Man, thatās some history there. I got to go to Marin county in the late 70ās to visit an old girlfriend who lived in Mill Valley. Iāve been all around that area but not since thenā¦ Thanks! Mountain biking was the bestā¦ until snowboarding started in the winter. I was a fiend in those days. Iāve never seen that article eitherā¦ I was involved in it as it was being developed and it was good times. Lots of pot and beer to get through it all, ha.
Iām a '78 modelā¦
It has changed enormously, like a lot(most?) of CA and for the worse IMO. The wealth thing happened in the 80s when the yuppie thing happened. I always took for granted that the mom-cars in my childhood were Volvos & Beemers(mom had a '74 Chevy 4x4 ).
Marin was this weird blend of SF/Berkeley & middle-class normality & a great, safe place to be a kid. Not so great for a lot of teenagers but Iām happy I was naieve & in the bubble until about 2000.
2 strokes are a little bit of a health risk I do admit. Iām still to this day 3 months later recovering from broken ribs, hand and a pulled shoulder after the red one threw me off.
They are also really addictive. The 34bhp one is only a 125 but is fully race tuned and leaves most 600cc bikes at the lights.
Funny you mention 2 strokes TBHā¦ When I had an interest in bikes back in the day, my number 1 choice would have been an RZ500ā¦ and it probably would have been the end of meā¦
My older, braver brother, however loves bikes, raced them (GSX-R 750 & 70ās KZ650 in Vintage Class), built them, etcā¦ but has since slowed downā¦
Iām happy doing 180+ in an old VW GTI, when the opportunity arises of courseā¦

Itās a full moon and Friday nightā¦ perfect for grocery shopping. I had a coffee with indica cannabis oil to lower post surgical twinges and avoid sleepy effect of hydrocodone. I had to ask someone to release a shopping scooter from the pile up charging in the supermarket. I collected my groceries, checked out and was escorted to my vehicle by a store employee who transferred my purchases to trunk of SUV.
Uneventful drive home and used my rollator to move bags from the garage to the kitchen. Time for a bong before late supper of salad and salmon. Many thanks to good samaritan and shopping cart scooters
It sure is a bright one out there weāre at about 96% right now two days it will be the Hunters moon.
Went along to the Brisbane hemp expo sporting a @George_The_Vault āThe Vaultā T-shirt.
Loved the science-lab-looking extraction stall
Mine and @Ghandisflipflop humour is more āThe Young Onesā Or āBottomā.
Sometimes if we have a āproperā argument it gets a little difficult to insult one another and fall out properly. Itās likely why weāve been friends for so long. Heās more like a brother.
That was something Iād planned on going to.
But weāre off gallivanting too the missusā 30year school reunion.
I donāt even attend my own reunionsā¦
I donāt have a cool @George_The_Vault shirt either cough cough
Best tv series ever
I think I was there in '78. I had just gotten out of the Navy, I think, or I might have gone down before I got out. My friend lived in Mill Valley and I thought it was so cool and not too kooky. But one of the first things I noticed were kids driving antique porches, convertiblesā¦ all hand me downs from the parents I imagine. Crap, I was still hitchhiking everywhere. I hitchhiked to Cali from Washington and had a blast.
She left there and moved to Naples Florida and still there I guess. I really liked Marin County. We got to go up to a local ranch/rest. thingy during the filming of a few scenes of a B movieā¦ (Honky Tonk, I thinkā¦)I never did see it but I need to look it up. It seems like the name of the ranch started with an Nā¦ Iāll rememberā¦ cool trip for sure. We also went to the Renaissance Fair up in Navato and was a blast. Went to Mount Tam, Stinson Beach, downtown San Franā¦ I think that was my first time to visit Cali and it was a bit of Culture shock as I was still young and untraveled. Great memories though. Iād love to go back one day.
I find it rather comical when you two go after each other! Keep up the great work!
yeah weāre a right pair. He doesnāt seem to come on OG as much now so Iāll have to go see him and stick my foot up his ass and ask why. Maybe heās just really busy with his little gardening business. Iām sure heāll pop round at some point. Last time he kept away this long there was a woman in his life
@cannabissequoia, Rancho Nicasio! Thatā's where we went to be in the movie one night. It was a hoot and a beautiful spot. I just looked it up on the internet and it looks the same. Itās north pf Mill Valley farther than I rememberedā¦ wish I could find the movieā¦ maybe Iām a star and donāt know it. They filmed a cool motorcycle stunt outside with him driving about 200 feet with people crowded and both sides and then jumping through a wall of fire, lolā¦ it had to be one corny movie. We were also in the bar where they were filming some honky tonkin going on! Damn, that was a long time agoā¦
Do you live in Marin? close? I bet is very crowded now compared to what I remember. Marin wasnāt totally over developed then. It was very laid back and cool. Dr.John the musician lived down the street from my friendā¦ so cool for me being that young. Now I want to go back!
I love it man. Epoxy grout makes senseā¦ I was wondering how regular grout would hold it together. Itās beautifulā¦
So, I suppose you buy them already rounded?
Iāll be doing my house eventually. I have a lot to do! peace
Boom! I guessed it. You know who runs that place now? George Lucas, aka Star Wars. You coulda been RIIIIIIICH! j/k
Itās very heartwarming to hear you sharing the same memories of place & time ā the kids today just donāt know! (1/2 serious there). Itās not just nostalgia-- the place WAS more innocent. & groovy.
And the fact that the local names stuck in your mind (maybe youāre just googling heheh)ā¦ either the memory is still good or those were good times.
Iāll get down off my soapbox.
