It’s RDWC. The roots reach the water and draw up moisture and nutrients.
the 2 waters never mix, he has a copper tube with cold water running thru so when the nutrient solution passes the copper tube it cools down. i’m imagining this is all automatic.
i believe he also mentioned his cooling system cools his lights and other stuff? maybe that’s why he isn’t directly chilling the nutrient solution? idk never done rwdc
Feed the Mad Mind Brother
Don’t do it brother. The nutrients will break it down and it will off gas deadly contaminants in to your rez. If you can, just run the nutes straight through your chiller. Much more efficient as well.
i built a website. anyone have wholesale contacts for grow tents, lights and other equipment? pls provide feedback
good looking out! I had the two coils for above my co2 burners if I feel like the room is getting to hot, and was gonna throw them in the rez for the meantime, glad I didn’t.
Truth be told I learned this the hard way. Tried using the coil I purchased and welded fittings on the ends. 3 weeks killed off 40 plants and I was clueless until I did some research. Nutrient PH does not get along with copper at all. They make them out of stainless as well, but it has to be so large in a nutrient rez it just runs much more efficient through a chiller direct.
I use these on 50 gallon drums and they barely run once you hit your temp.
@legalcanada look up green qube tents. The market needs more of them.
thats crazy!!! sucks real bad. Do you think the welding part or solder had anything to do with it? or just the copper? I am gonna put a copper fitting in a cup of nutrient solution for a few months to see what happens.
maybe put it in a cup on the windowsill with a few cuttings in it or something. this almost seems deserving of its own thread
Just checked it out very cool Legal, happy for you man
Quite sure it was the copper only.
Bet it’s black within a week.
Got my wood cut for my 1x1x2 box today. It’s 3/4" plywood but it was free so… can’t complain.
Copper has always been good at killing things.
Excellent
I’ve had zero trouble with copper coils in my RDWC. Been running them for years.
I don’t cool my LED lights with chiller water anymore because it worked TOO well! The room never warmed up and my poor lights were damaged by condensation.
I used water cooled air handlers to both cool the air and dehumidify. This is extremely efficient compared to using separate AC and dehuey units.
The hot side heated my house and domestic hot water.
are they soldered or flanged?
I bought 2m sections with a flanged end so I can slide the hose over the flange and use a hose clamp. I bought them to install ontop of the co2 burners if temps should get to hot. I have 5 chillers so I was going to dedicate one or two to the burners. I will bend the coils to fit the top of the burner box. Next room I will be installing homemade converted hot water heaters into water cooled co2 burners. I grabbed these air cooled ones for the meantime.
Neither soldered not flanged. Just straight copper 1/2” HVAC tubing. I use hose clamps at the ends, too.
Don’t run a chiller to cool your burners, it’s a huge fucking waste of money. Find a way to connect it to your domestic hot water system or just pump it into a big tub someplace, maybe outside. The big tub will shed enough heat- often by simple evaporation- to keep things in check. Run the output from the CO2 burner to the tub and let it waterfall in, the trip through the air and the churning will definitely help with heat dissipation.
Today I cleaned up all the wiring around my cab. I mounted the power strips to the walls, bundled the cords up with wire ties, etc.
Moved some shelving and cabinets into the grow room so I can organize my shit in there. Getting better!
Edit: Since i’m the last person to post, I’m just gonna edit this lol.
Also yesterday I accomplished:
Burned a bunch of leaves and boxes. The rest of the leaves will be piled into a compost area.
Started cleaning the crap up in my shed, old fan leaves, dirt, grabbed most of the growing supplies to bring them indoors.
Put the rest of my Royal Gold Tupur into two black 5 gallon buckets with lids, because my cats love to destroy any bagged products and get them EVERYWHERE lol.
Have been cleaning the house and trying to make our rickety shack look somewhat normal, the wifey will be entertaining a new lady friend next week so my honey do list has been full haha.
Today i’ll probably work on my 1x1x2 grow box
