Zephyr grows and creates

I didn’t even remember what the genetics of that Holy Hand Grenade were, but I just looked it up. You should absolutely plant those, even if you don’t do any breeding with it. I don’t ever throw around the word “special,” but that Big Sur Nigerian x NL2 I tested for Bodhi a while back was pretty fucking spectacular and unique weed. It was special for sure haha.

A friend of mine’s dad had big-time health problems (as all people do when they get to their eighties) and he said that that BSN x NL reeeaallllyyy helped his dad out. I don’t know what specifically was wrong with his father, but after my friend told me how much he was raving about it, I gave him a couple jars and his dad bought me a case of Anderson Valley’s Winter Solstice as a thank you haha. Of all the weed I’d ever given him, that was the one that he told me his dad couldn’t talk enough about.

I’m not saying you’re 80 or anything, zephyr haha, I’m just saying… I thought that that was really interesting, particularly because it was soooo psychoactive, too. I wouldn’t have thought that weed that was that insanely good would also have serious medicinal benefits, but apparently it did for my friend’s dad.

Anything with that Big Sur Nigerian in it… Yeah, grow those seeds.

Rough time today. You guys know I’m disabled from a muscular condition, and need help with a lot of stuff. My mom came over today to help me with some cooking and kitchen cleaning, and she had a vertigo attack and fainted. I was standing right behind her and caught her, slowly lowered her down to sit on the floor. But if I hadn’t been there it could have been bad. That really scared me. It’s also not something my body is really capable of… looks like I’m going to have a pretty bad muscle tear in my abdominal muscles from this. I’m just glad I was able to catch her, even if it was only from the panic strength.

Fortunately everything turned out ok.

That’s brutal bro I’m sorry to hear that, torn abdominal muscle sounds painful as hell.

Your mom take BP meds? Sounds like blood pressure might be getting to low at times.

Anyways wishing you well, sounds like a good time to burn one.

Thanks man. Yeah pretty much everyone in my family has low blood pressure that could be a factor, I used to faint sometimes when I was a teenager.

Definitely, I’m firing up the enail for this.

At least I know my “nice save” reflex still works in a crisis haha.

Picked my first outdoor plant a few days ago- Obama kush from archive.

As always with the obama outdoor I lost about 20% of it to bud rot after the first rain, probably should have picked it a few days earlier when I took these photos.

Small plant, short wide kush leaves, hints of purple just starting. Not the best grow for this cut, and a little leafy. It’s a slow vegger and quick flowerer so the yields aren’t great with a short outdoor season. Just not a good outdoor line for this climate- doesn’t like the heat in the summer, doesn’t like the damp in the fall.

The important thing about the obama is that it’s insanely dank. Like seriously, ridiculously, inconveniently dank. ‘oh shit people are definitely going to smell this’ dank.

A small tray of obama sitting in my kitchen after harvest stunk up the whole house.
Strong kush skunky gasoline type smell. From a distance, whiffs of burnt black coffee, and I hate to say it but, vomit? Up close, intense gasoline with slight hints of something like concord grape juice.

I got some really nice seeds from it crossed to the ethiopian omg #10 male. So the “Choom Gang” hybrid is complete. I’m looking forward to growing the hybrid next year instead of the Obama. I think the intense fruit from the ethiopian and the intense dank from the obama is going to be a potent combination.

Should be a better indoor / outdoor performer, and another combination of two strains that work for my medical needs.

The obama live resin is a fine sandy crystal powder, dank herbal toasty flavor, initial body rush with mild energy, followed by relaxation.

Interesting, I grew the same cut last year (a couple hours south of Portland). It was outside until I think the third week of October and I didn’t have any problems with budrot/mold/etc. I bought it in August though, so it got a late start and the flowers were pretty small. I’ve been telling people it’s bombproof outdoors haha. Oops…

Hope your cross turns out nice. Are you planning to grow that indoors or wait til next outdoor season? I crossed mine to a Dynasty Blue Magoo bx3 male, have one outside right now. It’s a nice plant but I’m worried now, hoping for a few more dry weeks!

That cross sounds really nice, I like the blue magoo. It used to be a big black market line here, but haven’t seen it as much since legalization.

Me too, one of my favorites. I’m bringing it back (in my garden at least, haha). Last time I smoked any was around 2011 I think…

Looking forward to seeing your Obama cross in the future.

Haha… I really audibly chuckled at that.

Yeah, that sounds like a real cool hybrid. I know I’ve probably asked this a billion times before, but what’re the genetics of the Obama again? I just searched it and all every site says is Afghani x OG.

I only ask because I wonder if the OMG in the Ethiopian and the “Afghani” in the Obama might make for a, uh… Really Afghani-leaning plant haha. Still sounds super-intriguing, though.

Thanks I was laughing about that line too. The entire time I was trimming, I was trying to think of the strongest possible term to describe how dank it was. After an hour with that smell in my face, I realized the highest possible level of dankness was “inconveniently dank”

I’m going to keep using that line haha

The obama is a selected pheno from a fem hybrid of mendo purps x bubba kush. I think it was either csi or a collaboration between csi and archive.

That’s why it looks and smells like kush, but doesn’t really resemble an og. It definitely grows at the pace of a bubba hybrid, and it’s got the big calyxes and coffee type smell of the bubba. I think the bubba pretty much dominates the hybrid.

I actually don’t really know the origins of the bubba, or the actual genetic makeup of the mendo purp. But if it’s an afghani, it’s a much different style of afghan that the OMG. The omg is a heady lemon scented narrow leaf afghani that grows in a tall vertical collumn structure. Way different than the squat slow growing broad leaf dank coffee bubba.

I would be pretty happy if this hybrid basically turned out as an afghani forward blend, with an infusion of vigor from the ethiopian and mendo purp genetics in the background.

Hard to say if it will lean afghani or be more of a hybrid indica superpoly type expression.

Yeah, I think it was just those stupid sites that post whatever nonsense they want about cannabis genetics, no matter how inaccurate it is. Strangely, they all seem to parrot one another, too, don’t know what that’s about…

Right. I was just kidding around about that Ethiopian/OMG/Obama cross of yours turning out super-“Afghani.” I do love those OMG hybrids, though, actually planted some more Soar seeds last month. Even when the plants turn out more OMG than whatever female is involved in the cross, the smoke is never what people think of when they think of “Afghani.” Or not what I think of, anyway haha.

How’s it going man? I hope you and your mom are doing well! I started reading your thread from go tonight and I’m about 1/6th of the way through, amazin! Keep posting it’s good stuff!

Give me your experienced opinion if you would. I have a ton of larf buds and a new harvest coming in a couple weeks… how to best put the larf to work? Its dry… Should I buy some bubble bags? What would you do?

Do the Everclear hash thing haha. If you’re only 1/6th of the way through this thread you probably haven’t gotten to that part yet, but yeah, turn that larf into the Everclear hash.

Cool thanks man im going to hunt that down for sure. For some reason I was thinking the everclear method was fresh frozen, I’m working with dry.

It’s probably like thirty or fourty posts above this one. I’ve tried it once so far with weed that’d been dried, cured and then stuck in a freezer for like a year or two. Seemed to work well. The only problem was I couldn’t scrape it out of the Pyrex haha. I’m definitely gonna do it again, though, just gonna be sure to scrape before it completely solidifies.

Is it all still stuck to the dish??!!

Thanks methodanon. I’m always glad to hear it when people find my documentation useful. It’s always nice to see someone reading through the old posts, I definitely put a lof of info into this thread.

Yeah go for the everclear honey oil hash. It works with fresh frozen or dry. Results will be more consistent with dry bud.

I’ve written several tutorials over the years here in the journal, you can probably find them easily by searching everclear within this thread. The most recent ones are probably the most thorough instructions, probably like 40 posts up like minitiger said. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Hand up! I’ve got a bunch of fresh frozen in ziplocs that have ice crystals inside. I set some out to maybe dry off a bit, and it turned to mush. Didn’t get any dryer either, lol!

Is the rest useable? If it is, how?

unfortunately I think it is likely unusable for hash making after it turns to mush. The best way to deal with ice crystals like that is to transfer the bud to a clean glass jar, and put it back in the freezer. If you keep it in glass, usually the ice forms on the lid and sides of the jar, so you can pretty much ditch the water content by transfering it to a clean jar while it is still frozen.

If you make hash with the mushy bud, all the clorophyll will come right out into the extract and you’ll get bright green extract, which evaporates into low quality brown hash that won’t dab cleanly. The cell walls of the herbal material have burst from ice crystal formation, so all the clorophyll and any remaining water content will come right out.

You could still use it for tincture, or for cooking.

Personally if I had a bunch of material like that,
I might dump it all into a pan (or an electric crock pot type thing), extract it into coconut oil for 3-4 hours, strain it, and make a big batch of psychedelic thai curry. haha
