Please snap some photos and share your experiences with Wahaka in the central American land race thread
i will in a few days. but looking good so far
lol ive been trying to say oaxaca but its Wahaka. ok more Toung twisters
That was my phone spelling that one lol. It does sound like Wahaka😁 the A’s sound as if in the word water
ive been saying oax-a-ca lol.
guess another hard to say name. either way it is good to have growing, thanks for that
Well from what I’ve deduced is that the seventies was the age of truly good import. In so cal you could grow quite a few of these strains that originated from the tropics or sub tropics. Skunk was a hybrid where they had shortened flowering and heightened resin production some time from mid to late 70’s. I can see two reasons for this with one of these reasons affecting both scenarios law enforcement. As Bob said I got ta hit and run although he was pollinating a different type of flower in that song it still holds substance.
So as pressure from the law intensified you try to counter these things, shorter height more bud and shortness of flowering time with less chance of hermaphroditism allowing for less chance of having your collar felt.
Selective breeding for these traits also led in this direction when breeding cannabis one trait at a time is normally focused on at a time to simplify what could bring many outcomes.
As we went into the eighties a couple of criminals emerged ( in uk we had criminals like Ronny and reggie kray and you had Ronnie and Nancy Reagan) well as they were fighting communism by any means necessary, whether it being allowing the CIA to fly cocaine into or just old fashioned wet work assassination.
While peddling just say no, led to persecution of growers, you got 20 ft trees taking sixteen seventeen weeks to mature your definitely risking modern day slavery? As the heat got more and more a lot of so cal growers moved north and found they couldn’t finish there plants. A lot of growers then moved indoors and out doors would require something shorter denser and not exposed to scrutiny for as long.
Hey @anon98152597 but but green house have t shirt and hoody’s? And not a regular seed in sight. Are you saying they ain’t tha boom lol
They offer the shirt for sale, but not the landraces like they said they would. Anyone surprised?
Not really I heard when shantibabba and Neville left greenhouse he started buying up the seeds they had left.
And the cheese I used to get was not exodus but came from same place Luton, the cheese we were getting came with that same leaf disease the exodus had.
I’m not slating it it was nice exactly the same but without the leaf problem looked like calcium problem. They bought out an exodus version shortly after. I would actually buy there cheese if I was strapped for cash and if I hadn’t got bored of it more than 15 years ago ( there was a time you couldn’t get anything but cheese or haze unless you were growing your own or you knew someone who was. But I’d also pick up knock off designer threads if quality ok at cheap enough price v quality lol
thank you @Funkjunky
yes i considered the laws back then in countries back then as well as the usa,
the ones in charge during those times, (crooks-politicians-law enforcement) who will no longer be said out loud, may they all turn in their graves.
yeah we have come a long way since then, lots of places coming on board.
do you think it is possible one of these strains made it in California and they may have coined it "big sur holy weed " named after the big surf? meaning grown in California, even mex. sativa at the time since genetics were shared a lot? Yes the laws out in California were real as bad as anywhere in the usa and still are in some areas.
@upstate yeah i think they should share whatever they are holding on to
Yeah of coarse I do. Before that you had the surf clique. A very famous Australian cat kangativa picked up his Oaxacan on sight travelling searching for the frothy stuff. The surfers were trading seeds in fifties and sixties without much documentation about it. Durban was the meeting of two worlds the shipping from India and Indian Ocean to the new world and Europe. I think there was a time when Henry v111 passed a law same with oak trees that you had to grow a certain amount of Indian hemp for rope for rigging and sail, the word canvas comes from the word cannabis.
Last night I was smoking with a older friend. When he gets lit, he alway start to reminisce about Maui wowie, chocolate thai, and black dominia? I don’t know.
I tell him that I take it as a compliment that my smoke reminds him of when he was getting blazed 40 years ago.
I tell him this is 2021 bud that’s reminiscent of bud from the 60’s or 70’s and you don’t see that every day.
I don’t know but outdoor bud always has more balance than indoor even in our wind swept cold wet environment. Cold effects us most with flavour if you can force into flower early or even use autos timed to flower say early mid august( yes they can be of use) otherwise you get a harsher product, if I was trading and could still pull august I could sell if that was my aim at similar to indoor. If I’m pulling last week of September first week of October and wanted to put on market I would get closer to half price. This improved with 2 months cure which was more balanced high than indoor but taste seems to suffer when the temperatures dip
it seems that surfing has come up and we can now understand that the durban (posions) may have already been in the states.
could have also been shared with the grateful dead tours as well.
So the durban sativa may have already been in California during the 60-s70s
but we fail to see the connection, the travel back then was less restricted, and surfing was big in
durban as well as anywhere else in the world with big waves. link below is durban surf scene
[50 Years of Surfing in Durban - South African Surfing Legends] (https://southafricansurfinglegends.com/archives/934)
surfers traveled brough seed. the rest just happened.
there was the grateful dead and all the tours/ shared genetics.
We have surfers and dead heads that travel.
One to the big surf and the other to the next big show.
so today has been a path of enlightenment, Thanks guys. i forgot about the dead and how they would travel. Durban was big on surfing during the 60s-70s. and i am sure some of these surfers brought seed out from Durban.
So durban sativa was going up and down the coast with the surfers, the dead head kids would get seed grow them out in whatever towns they were going through at the time, ect.
so not only is it possible that durban sativa may be included in the group “big sur holy weed”
or perhaps something simualr to the Oaxaca/wahaka sativa?
again time will tell.
so, durban Sativa should be a good time getting to know the plants. I feel magic with them but i feel that way with almost everything i grow.
Again I thank each and everyone for putting some history in here. by the end of this I am hoping to shed light on the green pheno.
different twist at the durban hotel.
. Zacatecas Purple, a rare Mexican, was mixed with an Afghan to make Big Sur Holy weed. One source says Mazar-i- Sharif was the Afghan.
interesting to know, and hope to one day shed light on the zacatecas that if i can find it.
i know there is he zacateca tribute but not sure if its what to look for
I’m enjoying reading all the background & research into this and other SA Strains ,)
Keep up the Great work everyone.
Ace seeds are a bunch of conservationists that mainly deal with landrace and heirloom strains but also a lot of stuff you can just in a pot.
Great read! Thank you!
Not too much on the seedlings, they are starting the 3red week of life.
havent fed anything but may do a very small amount, a baby feed. a half a baby feed, since these plants may not like to many nutrients, they probably will get mostly water.
i can tell though the way they are growing that they are the pure sativa, longer leaves, not fat and small like some hybrids or indica
otherwise, ill be here with the plants for a while to come
