You’re right about the mold spores, one of us should have caught that in that other post
You can see them clearly when you zoom in on this pic
I’d check things over carefully and cut out anything that shows signs of spores, look for plant matter that is turning brownish, brown while still growing is bad news, you’ll need a loop to see anything just starting. Cut it out and hope for the best
I get this problem a lot and have to be very careful at the end of a grow to avoid mold issues, I need more airflow, seems like you do as well
just finished up hacking her to bits. this is a bit more promising - a lot of the lowers had good seed. i could crack a few with my fingers, but they were juicy and bright white on the inside. i’m going to let them dry out and see what’s what.
this moon mission went from apollo 11 → apollo 13 → challenger.
i’m definitely going to do a germ test before i share them. if the seeds aren’t good it’ll have to wait until next fall before i try to make seeds again.
thanks for following along and if there still is a give away i will post pertinent info to this thread.
well i had a doobie of this moldy seeded weed (don’t do this).
this girl is strong. had me explaining to my 7yo why and how wilson pickett’s Don’t knock my Love is so damn good.
You retain your sense of humor, important when you are dealing with what happened. So I remember smoking some of the moldy bud back in the day, really got me ripped too! But I agree (don’t do this)
If you mixed pollen with flour then it’s because of the flour.
Doesn’t matter if it’s sterilized or not, the moment it lands on the plants it’s food for mold.
Then why do people mix flour with the pollen? I was told that if you use the pollen that has flour in it it’ll be fine. You just rinse off the pollen after a short time with a water hose and your good to go.
I hope that works. If not I have four strains of pollen that is crap now.
Well, you put the effort in, sometimes shit just happens. Hoping you got enough viable seeds to at least do another F-gen, if not enough to warrant sending out. I’d suggest soaking any seeds you’re going to germ in peroxide and water for at least a few hours if you don’t normally do a soak, to kill any pathogens that may be on the seed shell.
i’d say your pollen is fine and wouldn’t throw it away. follow the directions given to you on using that tech - wash it off after a day or whatever it is.
stop cutting with flour though. when you know better, do better. don’t beat yourself up over something you did before you knew it was bad.
looking back at this i can see where i messed up.
next time i’ll dry out pollen with dessicant in a clean and sealed container and sterilize the tyvek envelopes from the post office.
I did a germ test a month ago and forgot to post the results.
unfortunately they were quite low - 9/23 - and I saw some mold on the seeds. I won’t be sending these to Sebring for an OG seed box, but if anyone following along still wants to try them I’d be happy to send them a pack.
true. I wash all my seeds I sprout in a bleach solution. I think I posted the steps in this thread.
it made me think of the candy rain debacle from cookie fan where everyone was getting poor germination rates. it has to be because they were moldy while the seeds were growing in the flowers.
