exactly. You can see how this indicates his standard MO is probably to do a run with a bunch of landrace strains grown from seed that he hasn’t grown or tested, all in a greenhouse or small outdoor area, and breeding one line pure and letting it pollinate the rest.

in addition to concerns about his selective pollination technique, there are clear mentions of herm females being grown out to finish in the same space.

I expect those herms are spreading their genetics and making unexpected hybrids.

I often do an outdoor grow preserving a line while outcrossing it to other females. But I only use proven stable females that have been run multiple times in my indoor grow.
No guesswork, no risk of a herm pollination.

$2 seeds . Like more than a few cheap sources I wouldn’t expect the best genetics . If one’s on a budget & growing for themselves I could see it , but not for anything ambitious … For cheap seeds with proven genetics FDM’s Breeder Mixes are IMHO the ticket . 25 seeds for $ 30 , 50 seeds for $ 50 .

I think I will probably still try his seeds because I like the selection a lot, but I will always put an asterisk on the lineage. I do agree that for cheap unknown hybrids something like the FDM Breeder Mixes from @Baudelaire or Adventure Packs from @JAWS are probably more honestly sold and selected since those are intentional breeding as part of a program.

Believe me I wish that Destroyer & about a dozen others were the real deal . Little voice says too good to be true .

Yep, FDM mixes are a great deal.

So, I have bought, have grown, and will probably continue to buy beans from CS.
If you read his page fully, you know what you’re in for. Open air green houses in a legal state, multiple strains, he even has a section labeled “bastards” for when he knows it has gone way off the rails. That’s why they’re $1 seeds. 50 cents if you figure in the freebies. But what I have grown did more or less what I expected, and given that he does stick to a “type”more or less, meaning long flowering sativas, people who want to sample around that world have an entry level access point. If you’re just looking for smoke it seems really solid to me. And the couple plants I grew are some of my favorite smoke, ever.

If you’re doing a reproduction, or are interested in genetic preservation, don’t use 50 cent open air greenhouse seeds as your seed stock? But I imagine if you were that deep you would research the guy, and make a decision to look elsewhere at “open air greenhouse”.

Dude, that describes me every summer. I live in the desert and my buds dry in 2-3 days, and it dries unevenly. I feel your pain.

My feelings exactly! I wouldn’t use his stuff to do reproductions or crosses that I wanted to say with ironclad certainty were pure, but I’m sure gonna order some seeds and try them out, for the chance to access some great looking sativa genetics that are fairly priced and from a nice seeming guy. And if I find a great plant and chuck with it, I’ll put a (probably) in the lineage.

I live in southern Colorado with insanely low humidities. I always struggle. I’m going to have to make a room to hang them all that has a humidifier to counter the crispy outcomes normally seen.

Ironically, I had a really tall volunteer plant that grew outside my back door and ended up with spear colas all swollen and dense. I did not let them dry completely before i threw them in a bag, and I neglected to burp it obviously, because I opened the bag the other day for the first time in a few months maybe, and a small cloud of spores puffed out… the top of the bag looked fine, but the bottom was covered in mold. I wasn’t aware it could even happen here, lol. In my defense I suffered a broken leg at the end of August and also ended up with 10 lbs. dried bud… that I harvested on crutches. it was insane and I’m not surprised I missed stuff. peace

Also, I notice CS sells bukkake seeds - where he know the mom but not the dad.
Which has me scratching my head.

Ive “paintbrushed” individual branches, each branch woth a different male and tagged. Then find a few seeds in branches i didnt pollinate. And id have branches that are harvested and labeled, so i know the dad but not the mom.

…I wish he was here so we could ask

:joy: bukake seeds. Reminds me of Maury Povich…this song is a classic

My unknowns are now MMM v1, v2, etc. Mom’s Mystery Meat. Came out of the pressure cooker and was so good.(That thing was scary) What was that mom? Maybe elk? Mom…dad hasn’t been to Montana for 3 years. Like some of my seeds. Right now I’m running a MMM. Came from one of 2 guys. All I need to know.

I have had the same concern as expressed above, although CS does seem pretty transparent about the offerings - the bastard lines are labeled as such and have possible fathers listed.

So I e-mailed Colorado Sativas last night regarding the open pollination approach and mitigating/avoiding cross pollination.

Response >

“Pretty Simple: Different lines are never in the same space. If I want to pollinate something with a different line, I’ll move it to where the males that I want to pollinate it with are living. Hope that helps.”

I sent a follow up email regarding the open-air description of the greenhouses and he confirmed that enclosures are used during open pollination(if you look at the photos on the site, you can see some sort of cover on the greenhouse/hoop house presumably also utilized to extend outdoor growing season). According to CS there are multiple green houses and the males are not all living together.

Hey sorry I missed this from earlier. There were two (#1 & #2) which were very long flowering and never developed anything worth harvesting before the frost finally took them both. Very thin and wispy buds with pretty long side branching.

One was very short and fast flowering. This #3 was not the greatest smelling nor very potent and after completing a TLC test on it the results showed quite a bit of THCV and CBG so that might explain the lack of potency.

This #3 seems to be the only photo I can find all wet trimmed on 10/27/22:

The last Ethiopian #4 was THC dominant with a great fuel smell and also pretty quick flowering (end of Oct also I believe). I only vaped it a couple times so far but nothing special yet although I like to give each strain several sessions before forming a final opinion.

I find that I keep reaching for the Queen Mother actually. Kinda surprised myself because I reeeeally don’t like the smell on this one but the effects have always been interesting. “Mystical” could be a good description as noted above. I’ve vaped it a few times early evening and became quite introspective, to the point where the next day I thought damn wish I had wrote some of that down! But the smell is herbal, slight ammonia, and part dirty socks. I sniff the jar each time hoping that it has changed but nope! I’d like to run this one again sometime though. Curious how it comes out for you @Pigeonman, I need to catch up on your thread.

He talks about moving the plants for pollination, but it looks to me like the plants are planted in the ground.

I think hes doing a great service by offering pollenchucks and possible f2’s of rare strains at an exceedingly cheap price.
If someone were selling seeds for 100+ and claiming F2 or later, Id want to see a more trustable setup.

TL/DR: Id highfive him for offering cool, rare sativa hybrids at a cheap price.

He did send a good amount of full freebie packs with my order so yeah I can’t argue paying such a cheap price for seeds.

Hopefully he waits to sex them first🤞
