I think the pure cannabis types are rare and increasingly contaminated how ever there are many people holding onto and keeping them around. Several members here keep nice collections and some have been at it a very long time. 99% of the no pure strains left comments all contain the (expect what I’m working with statement )lol. In a world where having pure land race varieties is becoming increasingly valuable I’m sure the efforts to maintain them will continue and be stepped up
Its purely subjective … Between us @Heritagefarms , there’s nothing pure within any genome of this plant imho. But I do believe that some Asian and African are as close as we will ever know, even though they too have the genetic plasticity to become something entirely different - it only takes one new expression…
i have a landrace tub in my fridge, i have loads of differnt african seeds, plus some swazi redbeard x durben.
the ones i want to pop next are called sinia from sinia. most are from namkhas seed bank called real seed co. i have there lebanese and mazar plus some others. il be doing something with them, as its a shame they have been in my seed stash for about 6 years. and need to be grown.
I’d love to see a grow log on the Sinai and Mazar. I have some pure Mazar from other vendors that I haven’t run yet. Most the Dutch Mazars are crossed with skunk, but the RSC is pure and one that I’ve had my eye on for a while. Cool stuff dude!
Yes Yes Yes! @PanchoVilla! That takes me back to “the day” in Austin and the Gulf Coast in the ‘70s. Excellent Mexican Sativa! Thanks for that!
It should be the other way around… as you come down south towards the Equator, plants no longer have a short summer season to overcome and the flowering time gets longer as photoperiod also changes and day lengh is perhaps 13h at max. That’s the reason why Colombians, Thais and South Indians finish in December and January. Just like some oldscool Morelos or Oaxacan plants by the way, that’s why they used to call the old varieties “Navideñas” in Mexico, as they were often harvested around Xmad and New Year’s Eve time. That’s well documented, the more authentic those are, the longer they finish. Northern States have been historically ruled by the narcos so that’s where hybridization and introduction of foreing genes first started, wiping the traditional genepool from the map. The reason was because those allowed to have several harvests while traditional varieties would only be harvested once in the same time.
@XxPeacePipexX interesting thoughs… the sad reality is that hybridization contaminated most genepools in traditional ganja producing contries all over the World. It reached Africa already as well, even India and SE Asia or Indonesia, soon it will be global. So I truly believe that all the remanents of any “pure cannabis” as you’ve said (i’d rather said unhybridized landrace varieties) are in the hands of genetic collectors and breeders alike who have been sourcing seeds from many years ago. David Watson noted hybridization taking place in the 80s already in some places.
As for the Hawaiian genetics, I think it’s mostly BS with that… several times Hawaiian OG growers have already spoken about it when scammers like Puana Ohana or whatever his name is started spreading BS about the Hawaiian varieties. There’s no such thing as Hawaiian landraces but acclimatised imported varieties and hybrids who may have been grown there for years. Same happened in California. Most people trying to cash on Maui Wowie and all is just marketing, grow them and you’ll see they are mostly commercial hybrids like in California and everywhere else. The good Hawaiian stuff was probably pre80s and that’s most definitely gone, except for a few rarities like Greengenes Cherry Bomb and so on.
There’s no such thing as authentic Maui Wowie but loads of different guys naming plants that way or Punna Budder back then in order to sell and differenciate them. No one really cared about pedigree at the time, just quality. Similarly, there can be hundreds of Oaxacan or Jamaican varieties… from wack to connoisseur stash, authentic or hybridized, old or new, but that’s another story. Name is nothing, especially nowadays.
Cheers.
Sorry. Northern landrace Mexican strains as a rule did finish later than SW Mexico landrace strains. I have grown several original landrace north Mexico strains starting back in the 1970s. Also many many SW Mexico strains back then all from bag weed seeds. These strains I grew well before the Nacros and cartels got involved with Mexican weed growing. The hippies controlled the importing then. What is grown in Colombia and Mexico now are not the original landraces. Also the blooming and finishing times of the landraces were more related to the original genetics of where the landrace American strains came from, than their geography in the new world. Unlike Asia, Cannabis was not here before the Spanish brought it here in the early 16th century.
As for Hawaii, my family all lived there on Maui, Oahu and the Big Island in the 70s and 80s. Kona Gold pakaloco most certainly was around and I still grow it. I smoked boat loads of Maui Wowie grown in the cane fields around Wailuku. That was from SW Mexico strain seeds. Those strains are still around if you know where to look. There are old school collectors that still have old genetics. Sure there are rip offs selling OG kush and skunk genetics out there. They may well be the more common ones now. But that does not mean the original stuff is not out here.
Anyone ever heard of a French Landrace?
The Navidenias was highly anticipated here in Texas. That was when you were prone to finding those fabulous Sativas. We used to refer to it as the “Xmas Poo” because it came around Xmas and NY every year. Good times @PanchoVilla. All love bro…
Yes, around Christmas there as always good fresh harvested weed to be had imported from Mexico. Then in late winter the Colombian rolled into town.
Good times and good herb! Jah!
Good and cheap weed at that!
I know this is a late response, I have not grown The Waipi’o Hapa from Centennial Seeds, But I did grow their Hapa JHaze which was Waipi’o Hapa X Haze and it flowered outdoors until late October for the most part and some just kept wanting to flower foxtailing like crazy… This was about 5 or 6 years ago… I remember it was uplifting and would get your heart racing but after that it would calm down and was a good social high as in good for conversation, Just had to get past that first bit of racy paranoia… I’m a light weight to though…
Nice to hear your report on the Haze cross. I went to see Ben and got some of the Waipi’o Hapa earlier this year. I’ll probably run them sometime this year and post a grow log.
Two packs of Cindy 99 for the first unaltered pic of red sap coming from a cannabis stem. Anybody
Does this offer stand?
Sorry brother, But he handed those over like a year ago or so…
Yeah, I kept reading and saw that. I’m growing out a Jillybean that’s bleeding purple-red when cut. My first grow. Didn’t even know it was rare.
Edit: gave her cuts today and no blood. Tried leaf, growth head, and made a cut at previously sighted location. Nada. Some unknown variables.
Anybody know anything about Indonesian landraces? My indonesian buddy says there use to be lots everywhere but now harder to find and I’m big sad for everyone there
I have 4 landraces from the real seed company ,but would like to acquire a few more I’m looking for somebody else here who collects there beans who might want to trade f2 for f2. I’ll grow some this fall of a variety you dont have and you grow some of one I dont have and then we trade so were both the more the merrier. Mainly interested in there malana cream . I should be doing a f2 of there mazar before spring. Also interested in other landrace beans for trade depending on what and were from. I’ve also acquired a few from the landrace team ,ace ,cannabiogen, world of seeds, private sources near and far.

Any lambsbread? I’ve got some Malawi on the way along with Rooibaard and a few others.
