First snow happened. I’m calling it here. Today is harvest day. The plant is frozen.
OniTenshu, the UV from the outside light will degrade your drying buds. If you can erect a screen around your plant to block out the light.
I have the light mostly blocked already, but I’ll try to get shade netting around it
Doesn’t really degrade, turns into CBN, is all, which is a sedative and a happy cannabinoid in its own right and makes it all the more potent in combination with all the other cannabinoids.
There’s over a hundred and they all work together, it is the diversity of those many cannabinoids and their different ratios combined that creates potent and efficient medicine, not just THC.
THC is important, but above all it is diversity that is most powerful and beautiful.
We needn’t look very far, it is the thousands and thousands of different species of bacteria and fungi in our soil that make life possible, which creates and sustains fertility, which makes our lives possible.
Same goes for what’s going on in our intestines and blood, same goes for the entire universe, no star, planet, moon or galaxy is the same, it is the diversity that makes star gazing so interesting.
We never see an exact copy of anything anywhere in nature, even twins have their different tastes, and it’s all infinitely transforming on an atomic level at speeds we can’t even begin to imagine.
It serves us to remind ourselves of the importance of diversity.
This concludes the rambling, carry on.
Did a smoke test on a lower. It has a mesquite taste. My room has been a constant 52-62% humidity and 61-66f temperatures. The planf doesn’t give off much smell until you disturb a bud. Then it’s nose burning strong smelling. At least it’s a good high, but way too young to smoke still. The amount of phlegm I just coughed out is insane.
Update: it’s creeper weed too. I’m red eyed and fried.
Seems like good stuff!
You can crumble it and decarb it dry at 100 C / 212 F for 1 hr 11 mins, take half of the batch out and let the rest go on until 2 hr 22 mins, then eat 1/3rd of a teaspoon of eacht batch in the morning.
That gives it a much more balanced and slow release effect.
Decarbing at those two different times makes available a wider spectrum of cannabinoids in a more even ratio; THCa, THC and CBN, rather than a spike in THC.
And when eating it there’s also your liver transforming more delta-9-THC into 11-hydroxy-THC which is a more complex molecule, which makes it all the more enjoyable.
For a similar effect I use a crock pot and cook on low for 24-48 hours. I cook it in solid honey and avocado oil. It’s worth the price for edibles. It emulsifies into most everything and in my experience mixes with sugar very easily. Even cheap costco or bjs avocado oil isn’t cheap in quality at least. In fact tbh it’s higher quality there than your local store most likely at a fraction the cost, so 🤷
I know the Costco one says 500f smoke point, but it starts to smoke around 420f. However in oil blends it does increase the smoke point of other oils fairly high. I have seen blends of beef kidney fat and duck fat with avocado oil I’ve made reach 550f before smoking. Though in thin layers it smoked heavily at 500f, but despite the smoke the oil took forever to create a seasoning. It’s a great edible oil. Less great at deep frying. Despite the heavy smoke it’s actually amazing at seasoning cast iron to a super stable metal friendly seasoning. just don’t use alone or you’ll regret it. Use that blend I mentioned. Render your own duck fat and beef kidney fat. Look for suet for beef fat and a standard duck breast for duck fat. Goose fat also works. It’s smoke point is very high and creates a heavy umami seasoning. Hard to explain, but everything I cook in it without that fat still tastes umami. Vs the same dish made in a steel pan. Also that seasoning is acidic food friendly vinegar too. Eggs slide right off like an infomercial.
It’s finally that time! Jarring my weed now. About half went to edibles on the 24th. Just the wispy see through buds i couldn’t jar without them falling apart into a crumb. Overall About a whole trays worth was used up.
Saved all the denser buds for the jars. Altogether I’d say I got about 28-56g or so yield. Though I can’t say for certain as I didn’t weigh what I used. I did however test the butter/fat mix and it’s strong. Strong enough to get my 1g dabs a day tolerance ass high too with a small amount.
Overall about 3 jars full this harvest
Excellent harvest!
and great results.
Cheers

Leftover bud with cannabutter soaked into it was used for spinach ricotta filled Crescent rolls. Imo a much better way vs trying to drain to a husk. Unless you have a press for that it’s just simpler to make a low dose edible batch.
The smell is strong with these buds. Smells like a sweaty armpit now. Straight musk.
On smoke I’d say hints of cat piss, hazelnut, orange, lavender, anise, and clay.
Taste aside it’s effective.
Here’s a mini fire pit lol
Another smoke test as it cures to see how it changes during curing. Also as despite the taste it works great. This time it went from cat box with hazelnuts to orange peel with pecans and a hint of lavender.
How does a longer cure affect it, or does that depend on strain, ambient conditions, etc?
Others can give more specifics, but basically it breaks down chlorophyll and if memory serves me it also can change some terpenes to more complex molecular structures than at basic. Sesquiterpenes I believe.
If I understand it properly it’s basically a fermentation/chemical reaction happening. Science aside it becomes a smoother smoke.
For curing it usually needs specific conditions. Leftover moisture in the core of the bud after drying. Curing helps bring that moisture to the surface and regulates the overall moisture levels. Ideally in the 52-62% humidity range
Because THC breaks down into CBN, it seems like a long enough cure would mitigate some of the “racy” effects.
Oh most definitely. Cure in too warm conditions and it rapidly changes to cbn. If cured in the fridge however you may notice thc levels increase.
Basically at its most core reasoning curing is preserving the weed for long term storage and also minimizing the risk of mold. All while maximizing taste and smell.
