Old Smuggler (x3) and Good Medicine

I love Old Smug and happen to keep a more narrow leaf variety. Her effects seem unremarkable until you let go of your tension, physically, mentally and emotionally, then she shows you her magic which can actually be profound.

Yeah, I could see it maybe working like that for seeds. Maybe. But with flowers, there’s so much vegetal matter or whatever you wanna call it in the bags that the flowers for sure don’t get dried out. Or not as quickly as they would if they were hanging, anyway.

If conditions are ideal in my drying area (which isn’t often), I’ll usually break everything down into bag-sized pieces around day 12. Or whenever the stems start to feel like,””Alright, these are probably gonna be snapping in two days.” Sometimes they’ll feel like that after five days, it gets so gawddamn dry out here haha.

It’s also a good method to use when you just don’t feel like spending eighteen hours a day for three or four days frantically trimming everything haha. It works, for sure. Just be sure to actually fold the bags closed if the nugs/stems are feeling too dry; if they don’t feel too dry, leave the bags partially open. And if they’re feeling pretty “wet” or whatever, leave the bags completely open.

You get the idea…

I’ve definitely also gotten into the habit of sometimes taking plants that I don’t have time for because they’re too leafy and chopping them semi-dry (bigger stems still bending) into paper grocery bags clipped shut that I toss in a cold dry attic stairwell. It seems to hold there pretty good and takes a week or more to get crispy. When I think it’s ready I dry trim it brutally tight and then dry sift the trim. If I get branches that are all larf and sugar leaf I do that too but leave it to get bone dry Afghan style, in almost freezing dry temps and then it sifts so easy.

I definitely gotta give that a run, I feel what you’re saying with that dead sprint to trim everything while at its ideal dry

That’s awesome, another good vote for the bags, I’ll for sure have to try this, got that nice dry sift screen sitting there that hasn’t seen too much use lately. Got some stuff in the freezer currently but I think I’m more likely to wash it than dry screen. But I’ve been toying with the idea in my head of growing some stuff to let go specific for dry sifting, sounds like your method might be the ticket

Looking for lots of this for sure! Cool to hear someone else who’s grown it. The guy who gifted them to me was the only other dude I’ve talked to about it

In my head it’s like the purple Peshawar from bodhi or like some mazar i sharif or something like that

The two best sifts I’ve gotten so far, though I haven’t tried everything, have been LA Pure Kush from Hazeman and Blackwater x Apollo from SCJedi, both of those absolutely dumped trich heads. So yeah broadleaf Afghan kush genetics for sure. Both of those made beautiful pale kif that was fragrant like the buds, instead of green kif that was all vegetal which is what a lot of them seem to produce. I think it has to do with the dryness of the resin, like not sticky buds, but sandy, dusty with powdery resin seems to be best. And obviously big trich heads on long stalks but that’s hard to see once it’s dried.

Isn’t finger boarding tech decks. Like skateboards? I know people able to trey flip with two fingers. That shit is actually kind of crazy to watch. And there crazy small finger skateboards not none of this scooter bullshit lmao

Yea I know exactly what you mean with sandier/powdery trichs, the good medicine is the exact opposite with resin that sticky and tacky like super glue, but I did still get a decent sift when shucking seeds that I’m curious to try out pressing and smoking

Exactly, no hate on it either, to each their own, just not my flavor

I think dry sifting seed run leftovers is the way, man. When I get done with that Vortex preservation I’m doing this winter, if it dries sandy I’m absolutely chucking all that shucked bud into some paper bags for a month then dry sifting and pressing pucks or doing Frenchy Tek

This is the way dude, I bought an antique glass rolling pin to press my shit the way frenchy does, or did, RIP

Same, I did them as a kid. Don t have any now. I like regular wood pushing.

I can still skate., I love it all street and longboard cruising. I can’t snowboard anymore as my knees can’t handle it…sucks. that shit is the best.

I’ve never had enough to try it, except when I sifted everything but the tops of that Blackwater x Apollo. When trimming everything else after two weeks of hanging I was so disgusted by how leafy it was I stuffed the whole runt into a grocery bag and forgot about it. Remembered a month later and harvested the tops, brought them back with a Boveda, and sifted the rest of the plant in my Trim Bin, got maybe half an oz of kif but I kept it to blend and top bowls with. Of course those tops and sift were incredible fire. This’ll be the first time I have so much bud that I don’t want to smoke (sort of) to think about hot water Tek and wrapping/aging

I’m still destroying my knees on my snowboard haha, hopefully soon actually, local spot is supposed to open next week :call_me_hand:t2::call_me_hand:t2: actually the reason I took a look at the old smuggler was the name of the mountain I live next to is very similar

I’ve done it with a couple small bubble hash runs, worked great each time and yielded around 4g of pressed hash, not a huge yield but the tech still works at smaller scale and is fully worth it!!

I broke my femur and knee, the pins don’t help and I have been hit hard with rheumatoid arthritis everywhere. I bought my last pass ten years ago, went a bunch of times but could only do five to ten runs. I used to get in ten times that. Backcountry you name it. No more pow for me, it’s sad. But life is life. I’m also not trying 12 sets anymore, lmao.

Dude that’s rough. I had a compression fracture of my L2 vertebrae in college, never been right since. Still charging a little right now but I’m sure my days are numbered

Finished up the trimming tonight jarring up the number 2 and 3 phenos of the old smuggler. Planning on getting out the lightbox at some point for some nug shots but none at the moment, I was just happy to be done trimming. So far the number 3 was the most resinous OS pheno, but all three have a much sandier quality to the resin as opposed to the super glue consistency of the good medicine. I’m pretty stoked on this thinking that this might make for good dry sift in the future. Trimming things up I was hard pressed to find the hurt rubber notes that I was expecting after smelling these plants in veg and whatnot. I was getting nice mellow fruity and sour smells as well as a deep rich hashy smell, so we’ll see if that continues after it’s time in a jar or if some funk pops it’s head back up. Overall I’m pretty stoked on this run, some beautiful buds, now just time to sample! I’ll be back when I crack into things and get a smoke report and some nug shots. Be good y’all :v:t2::call_me_hand:t2:

The Good Medicine has the typical super glue-sticky resin and Hawaiian Punch/skunk terps which I fucking love, so happy with this one. All three of the Old Smugglers are a bit surprising on the nose. The vegging plants have extreme burnt rubber smells but the flower has a bit more of a fruity nose to it. I can’t quite place the fruit exactly but it’s very pleasant albeit unexpected. All three sport the nice, sandy resin that I just know will make good pressed hash. The number three which seemed to be the most finicky seems to have the most resin, as it sometimes goes. Smoke tests for these should be coming up when I can kick this little cough I’ve got. Hope you’re all good out there family. Big love to all of you :v:t2:
