Yeah that didn’t totally make sense after rewriting other parts of the post.
They’re both from the south, the irene was reportedly from atlanta when it first showed up in california years later than the other OGs, the triangle is from florida (although I have heard the name refers to the emerald triangle where they got the seeds) and it also didn’t show up in the bay area med community until years after OG had become popular.
as heritage farms said, all of the og’s are either s1’s or outcrosses, and in that sense they could all be considered sisters.
I think lemon rubber acetone is a good description. I don’t get fuel from it after the plant is dry.
the best I can explain it, is that OG’s like platinum had that classic smell, and felt like it was wafting up on a wave of evaporating gasoline. It was pungent and solvent like.
The triangle has a complex OG smell like what you describe, but it’s more like the aromatic is being carried on something sweet and mild, like the aromatics that are used to flavor candies and breakfast cereals.
And of course, it’s very subjective. Like I said, it’s good weed either way but it just doesn’t hit the spot for me with that terpene profile.
Maybe the hollywood doesn’t either if it’s supposed to smell like marshmallow, that’s one I am a bit less familiar with being from northern california.
this comment is interesting.
From about 97 to 2005 when I had to shut down my indoor grows for a few years… all my harvests were going to a crew from Fresno Ca. A long time friend of mine who I met at a summer camp we both worked at when we were 16 in the mid 80’s , would drive up with his crew and take everything at 2800usd per. Was a sweet deal for me considering our canadian dollar was worth 74cents to your dollar.
Now the stuff they were taking south was what we called the Biker HP. Sadly I have no pics of this girl and I have been hunting for the cut since 2015.
This was a broad leaf … indica type, very little stretch but grew “OG” like. She was done in between 7 and 8weeks.
Still to this day I think she was some of the tastiest and potent weed I have smoked.
But then there was another strain they fell hard for and that was what I called Hashka. This was a cross of the biker hp and breeder steve’s Shishkaberry from a male I selected.
This one was going in 8lbs lots to fresno every 3 months. Not sure what they called it down there but those guys were extremely sad when i had to shut down.
All my clones were given to someone I thought I could trust while I relocated my home and grow but those trays all vanished. I “know” those clones went into the hands of someone who knew thier value and went on to grow them and no doubt breed with them.
I often wonder if that biker hp is one of the original “OG” kushes… but I also wonder if it is related to the Puck/skelly so who knows… it’s been so long.
It could have been something hunted from old sensi seeds stock , could have also been the bc hashplant bubbleman renamed to Champaign that then became known as champelli, that is rumored to be a Burmese hashplant kush cross.
If your talking about the lizard cut of biker hashplant it could have been the pnw hashplant or something hunted from seed , I don’t think anybody will ever know for sure.
I saw two different hashplants in California back in the 90s , one was very similar to bubba kush and the other was a more single cola plant that did not taste good but was very potent and covered in crystals. I know a lot of people bred with the super potent one and it was supposed to throw fire into the offspring.
I have some of the OSHP aka Champagne seed to hunt thru but from what I remember from back then… there was a crew (monty’s) here in surrey/delta that grew the Champagne and it was different than the biker hp. It had stretch and a different flavor profile.
Also hunted thru some of bodhi’s old school hashplant which uses an old pnw hp but also didn’t find anything resembling the biker hp.
When i received that “biker hp” clone it came with strict… and i mean strict rules to not share it with anyone. It was all grown for export or club stash. At the time, the 3 strains the bikers were pushing through the flower rooms were the biker hp, blueberry (pre DJ’s 98 release) and NL5. Anyhow, I am steering things away from the thread subject a little so I’ll stop there.
I am going to be popping my Lando’s Stash collection pretty soon though so this thread is a good read and thanx to all the knowledgeable contributors. Being from Canada all these kush types kinda make my head spin LOL
I should add that in Surrey/Langley/Aldergrove area of BC was a major supplier of weed to the US thru the 90’s and 2000’s and beyond I am sure. I started learning to grow under my mentor, a patch member of the Outlaws, in 1989. “Kush” didn’t show up at street level in BC until after 2000. I know this because I was moving NL5 and Shishkaberry to all my local dealers and in about 2002 I began to compete with what was called “Kush” and it’s been around ever since. Kush displaced NL5 right out of the Lower Mainland BC region by the time my shut down in 2005 came along. I never joined the internet of weed until 2015 so I am missing years of internet knowledge when it comes to the Kush types.
I am not trying to be rude at all, but I feel like that is basically common “knowledge” and has been for a long time haha. You aren’t telling me anything that I didn’t already know.
Just to clarify my post, when I read @zephyr’s post about Triangle Kush and Irene being sisters, I thought that he might have heard, thought or legitimately known something that I did not about them both coming from the same group of bagseed or something similar. Knowing both of the stories on TK and Irene, that just didn’t seem plausible. BUT again, I don’t know everything, so I just wanted to make sure that there wasn’t something that I didn’t know or that I was missing from the story. There wasn’t. Positive vibes…
All good my friend. I just happened to read your post and I run Irene like it is my fucking religion and I have never gotten anything sweet from her, so I was just wondering.
Unless they are found in the same bagseed or group of S1s, I wouldn’t really call them sisters. But I am also a ridiculously technical person.
This. These are the types of plants that I crave in my garden and in my lungs. Positive vibes…
I definitely get a gas or fuel note in the dry TK flowers. Not much at all but it’s definitely there. I grow her hydro style with a lot of sulfur though so maybe that has something to do with it. The skunky smell can kind of be considered sweet Honestly, higherthought described the TK perfectly imo.
Well I don’t mean to be rude either but I was not even responding to you I was responding to the statement that they were sisters.
There is also the fact that most people are not growing these cuts but a s1 passed of as the original instead.
The pure kushes are not s1s. They are sisters. Topanga, malibu and hollywood pure kush are sisters. And i dont thing they come from OG. The smell and bud structures are very different. I think they come from a hindu kush Pakistani. Because the pakistani tends to be sweeter than the afghan. But both are from the hindu kush mountains but from different sides. Topanga is a bit more skunkier than the hollywood pk. The hollywood pure kush is much sweeter and saturated with this sweet kushy taste that lasts till the last hit. Makes the pipe even taste good. And the malibu was sweet but not as saturated and had a gassier back end. I first tried the hollywood pure kush in 2003. From some dispensary on fairfax. On the second story. They had a cage to buzz you in. 90 bucks an 8 for the hpk. I dont know how my friend heard about it but we had to go get this bud. On the way home he let me pack a bowl and the taste was this saturated kush candy sweetness. And super stoney.Amazing bud. Years later, around 2008. i went on my own hunt to find the hpk and found mmrc. They carry all the pure kushes. The wicked kushes and topanga and malibu and the 91hpk. I do believe the 91hpk is alittle different than the hpk. The 91hpk was not as saturated flavor. Maybe they have some batches better than others. I have a cut called road runner kush. From strayfox that is the topanga pk x hpk. It’s definitely got that sweetness but skunky on the backend. Its good but i want that pure saturated sweetness. Ive ran the skycuddler and its a close shot. I think if i put the skycuddler with the road runner kush than maybe i can take off that skunky back end and bring out more of that sweet saturated baby powder type taste. The suge pure kush ive have held since 2016. Its very different than the others. Much like a bubba but fades out with all kinds of colors. Dark green purple red and yellows come out later in bloom. The taste is very close to bubba its coffee with a sweeter end. I find bubba with more of a coffee piss smell. Not bad at all just how i can describe. Ive also grown out the LAPK from Hazeman seeds. And that is not the suge pk. They look nothing alike. The LA has a very nice structure. Not too tall and not too squat. The nugs are chuncky and the knods are spaced out nicely. Very different from the structure of the suge. The suge is squat with broad leaves just like bubba. I find alot confusion over the pure kushes. Im glad i was able to experience them early. I didnt know at the time i was becoming familiar with something that would become the legend that it is. I havent grown the malibu yet. I do have tidal wave from archive. PUTS put out a malibu s1 called cartmens mom.The road runner kush is very nice but the branchs are super thin twigs that flop all over. I found it becomes stronger with less branches. Like only four and it will make big puffy kushy nugs. Anyway, im new here but been in this since 97. I got my card in 2002. It was my mission to get familiar with as much strains as possible. You are exactly right with how first there was kush than came og kush. I remember the kush was bubba kush in 2000. It was a great selling point for some people and a great way to hussle up prices for others. Then just barely a year later 2001 it was suddenly og kush and gas smelling buds was what you wanted. From 97 till 2000 it was only shwag mids and chronic for me. Im sure some people had the kush and og by then but i was young and my knowledge wasnt there yet. I do remember hearing of chemdog and dog bud in 98 but again i just took it as hype to rip people off. Wasnt till i got my card and was alittle older and the laws were different that i became a connoisseur.
They are not the same cut. If you have smoked them you would knows this very easily. Even their appearance is different. You can go to the dispensary and buy them all separate off the same menu and see they are all different. So much speculation and hear say. Why not try them yourself. Go to mmrc in LA if its still there and see for yourself.
I’m saying these 4 cuts all go by each other’s names so it’s a matter of luck on actually getting the real deal from a clone seller or dispo. Which one is the original?
Next time I have at least a couple grand to blow I’ll make sure to book a flight out there.
This is not the suge cut. This looks more like an LAPK. Suge is much more squat and darker leaves. Grows very slow. Eats slow and the nuggs crown much fuller and frostier.
Ah, i see. Sorry your so far. The mail still works tho. Where might you be? The three PKs the Hollywood the Malibu and the Topanga are all very similar but are different in their own ways. And the suge is something completely different. Theyre all very good. Topanga pk is not topanga og. Nor is hollywood og, hollywood pk. Ive seen some mix up with that. I dont even think the 91 hpk is the real hpk. It has a similar flavor but its not that saturated kush candy. Anyway. I crossed the LAPK to the road runner kush. Which is topanga pk x hpk. Now i need to hunt those and cross it to the suge pk. And we’ll just have a pile of pk there now. But ive got so many other plans already. Maybe ill get around to it eventually. Or maybe some body.
HPK is my favorite. Grew it in West Hollywood and Silver Lake for nine years. I’d love that cut back, but don’t see it happening where I’m at these days. Haha That Pillow Surfing sounds like a nice one to hunt. Best of luck with them!
